Finally read the FAQs (3/11)

  1. @Thomas918 Could you please expand on the "putting graphinte all into the powder hopper"?j Best, David
  2. The stroke is terrible. I only reload pistol, so maybe this is for the rifle folks, I dunno. But that strokes with that lever. This is one area I will look for an aftermarket option. And while were at it...the mounting point...it requires you to have the press at the front end of the table. I like center mounts...on stands. This would require a very tall perch and the the press is already a very tall beast. There is just quite a bit of awkwardness with the mounting and lever that no one seems to have mentioned.
  3. I have experienced similar issues with the powder measure. The variances are quite large (+/- .2) as your observations and with similar powder spillage. I have the post-demo production release version. I got this along with a friend who does not seem to have similar powder measure issues. So, it's a head-scratcher at this point. This is my first experience with this type of dispenser, coming from Dillon presses. I had high hopes. Hopefully there will be a mod/fix for this from the greater community...once there are a few more in the wild.
  4. As has already been pointed out, the mags are a big issue. Almost as big is the fact that b/c it is a double-stack 1911, the trigger guard is the same, rounded, as a 1911 and just does not work for the race holsters. I used to equal success, a DAA Racer X block for a Honcho with my Staccatos as well as the STI block with my Honcho. That is great to have. Small note, if you keep the Prodigy grip, there is a knub on the front of the trigger guard that makes it not work with my DAA race holster...so there's that. But, as for worth...it sure can be. You are starting about $400 cheaper and with a heaver gun if you go RIA. That may make a difference in your situation. Bonus is the RIA would make a great pew to learn how to work on your 19/2011s as the parts are relatively inexpensive.
  5. I wish I would have kept my 750 when I got an 1100. It would be great to just test out new loads, or keep some utility dies on there (bullet puller, etc)...but that ship has sailed.

  7. The fail-safe rod on the 750 is a known wonky item. Uniquetek sell a HUNDRED DOLLAR thing to smooth that out, if you are that gucci. It bothered me enough to go the "old Dillon Powder drop" route and disconnected the fail-safe altogether and use springs to bring the powder measure bar back into battery. This requires more attention to your process and can give you double charges if you "blow your flow", but it made the press so much smoother. YMMV. Best, David
  8. I have rolled plenty 220gr (SNS) and 200gr (Blue)...I used Xtreme for some, but I do have that data handy: Bullet : BB BB BB SNS SNS Weight : 200 200 200 220 220 Powder : N320 CS AA#2 CFE N320 Charge : 4.5gr 4.00 3.90 4.1 3.4 Primer : 500 FedSP FedSP FedSP 500 OAL : 1.190” 1.186” 1.186” 1.19 1.186 PF : 171 169.13 168.48 168.04 168.43
  9. This excellent overview. I will say that the boys down in Chillicothe put on an excellent match the 4th weekend. It's about 2:10 from city center (less if you are south)...but worth it. They use both Saturday and Sunday...so you can shoot both days for like super cheap, or shoot Chilli Saturday and one of the Schultz matches on Sunday. To that, NPCCC (Chesterton) also run a Saturday and Sunday USPSA match weekend (woot-woot). On last note: Schultz runs two USPSA matches; one under NISA and one as Schultz. I can ( and usually do) shoot multiple days every weekend between the double USPSA weekends, Steel and IDPA (ssshhh...it's ok...)
  10. I have a Blue Bullets 1.186" load with Fed SPP, mix brass using 4.5gr AA#2 for 170PF out of a Nemesis. HTH, David
  11. I was speaking as someone who lives in the city. I shoot hi-cap weekly. I shoot that PCC monthly. I am not sure what your concern is. At best, if the planets align and you got into a situation where CPD had knowledge of hi-cap mags and/or your PCC and actually care to do anything about it (and I don't know what that situation would be), then you would be getting a ticket. It is a city/county ordinance. I did not want to get into the reading of the CCL State law revisions that have a blurb about no other municipal laws superseding, and all that b/c it has been covered a bunch in there very forums and the Inet at-large. That CCL revision makes hi-cap and our PCCs legal in IL, etc. But all that is a rabbit-hole that I wanted to avoid as it is mostly academic. It will make more sense when you actually live here, get your FOID/CCL and roam about the place and realise you will be fine carrying on with your action pistol as you see fit. Come see us at Eagle (Oak Forest) on Wednesday 5:30PM for action-pistol style indoor practice. Good times will be had by all.
  12. PowerValley: https://www.powdervalleyinc.com/product/ramshot-silhouette/ MidwayUSA: https://www.midwayusa.com/product/2182322124?pid=322124 Seem to have plenty of Silhouette...and AA#7, for that matter. Best, David
  13. Honestly, it's not really an issue as there is no action pistol in Chicago proper. We all shoot hi-cap and PCC at the various matches around Chicagoland. In fact, we are particularly fortunate to be able to shoot L1 USPSA every weekend starting this weekend and there are multiple places holding indoor USPSA-like practices. Oak Park Sportsmans Club (IL) Aurora Sportsmans Club (IL) Schultz Gun & Rod Club (WI) North Porter County Conservation Club (IN) These are all outdoor USPSA (see Practiscore) L1 matches about .5 to 1.5 hours from city-center. We are just sort of limited on 3-gun due to the space available at most of these clubs. But even that is plentiful if you expand your tolerable driving radius. I mean, we are not AZ, CO or Cali...but we have plenty matches to shoot...that's not even counting all the great sectionals available... Best, David
  14. CFE out of my Nemesis For coated, it was BlueBulllets @200gr CFE: 4.9gr OAL 1.190 PF: 169.4 For copper Xtreme @180gr CFE: 6.1 OAL: 1.190 PF: 164.8 I never worked up a USPSA load for 180 because I preferred the feel of N320 and Clean Shot to CFE. CFE is fine and if you have a bunch, "run whatcha brung". Without a direct comparison, I am not sure I would notice the difference in feel. But, if you follow the work of Dr Brad Miller (https://www.shootingtimes.com/editorial/gunpowder-contribution-to-recoil/328788), all else equal, for non-compensated pistols, use the smallest grain charge to make your load. In our case, that is fast burning powder (search here, there are tons of great posts on it)...so Clean Shot wins (for me). Best, David
  15. Thanks for that. In my limited experience it seems that 155PF is a nice PF to be at for minor...I wonder why that is... I have done 155PF loads (CFE pistol) taking a recommendation from Adam (Atlas) in terms of saving a bit of wear-and-tear on the open pistol for practices, etc.
