  1. This seems to answer my main question: https://uspsa.org/announcement/854 YML is back as President. I'll take your word on the rest, and put some hope into it. Thank you!
  2. I think Texas will be our last place, though we still need to buy a house. We're here because my father-in-law is in declining health and my wife is the "get things done" person in the family. Without her efforts, he would already be gone. Now, hopefully, he'll live long enough for me to get older and grumpier, and she'll want to be around family when I croak off. Funny note, my avatar is from one of my earliest IDPA matches. It's in Wilkes county, the ground is frozen solid, and the white on my arms is my long johns.
  3. Ha! At my age, I'll croak off before things get too bad. However, I could use your help. I'm out of the loop on the USPSA stuff, I didn't know YML was back and the board was changing. Can you point me to intel on that? If the change is there, I'll have to rethink my decision. Thanks!
  4. Understood. A lot of people seem to want classifications and classifiers, and that takes organization and funding. If I understand correctly, so far a person/club can choose to participate in the system-to-be or not. The rules are currently less complex, and explicitly state that the local clubs can alter them as needed. USPSA does the rules and classification stuff well, and sets a high standard for a shooting sport. I was a memeber for several years, and usually the guy that made everyone else look blazingly fast. My contribution was helping on stages, and I dutifully revalidated my RO/CRO cert each year. When the BoD kicked out YML for nothing, and thier own behavior seems questionable, I had to decide if this was the sort of organization I wanted to represent. It isn't, and I left. That's why I'm happy to look at PCSL as an option. Others have their own reasons, and none of us should disparage those who remain in USPSA. We all have a choice.
  5. No, this was a few years ago in SC. Since the WSB had the start position, and as jogging backwards is something I'm not safe doing even without a firearm, my plan was to turn around, run to the back of the stage, face down range, and then draw. I had to leave early, though, and missed all the "fun".
  6. The rules don't look too complicated, but they do seem to be written for quick reference and clarity. No matter what I think of the USPSA rules, the rulebook was laid out well and written well. Much better than I could do, and for the most part they withstood much of the gamer-isms people tried to come up with. Not all of it, of course; gamers never seem to give up trying to find a loophole.
  7. Yeah, I've seen some odd stages in other sports. At one, you were down range, and the expectation was that you were going to job backwards and engage left and right. I guess they didn't care that the entire bay was slick mud, and that they were begging for a bad accident. It really depends on the local range staff, doesn't it? You could do the same "run, run, pew once, run, run" thing in USPSA, and maybe IDPA too. That's one reason I started shooting steel, much less movement.
  8. I'm just starting to look at PCSL; no opinion yet, just interest. I've yet to get a PCC or similar, and might use this as an excuse. Hmm...neat. Just skipped over to the rules, and the PCC is in lieu of a handgun. For the 2 Gun, you can go from 5.45x39 to 7.62x51.
  9. My family is from Wilkes county, but I'm currently exiled to Texas. If I can get back to green country for a spell, I'll holler at you all.
  10. Thanks, guys! I'll clean them up and tumble them after loading.
  11. Hey all, I could use some advice. I have a small pile of soft lead bullets with wax rings. They have been through several moves and storages, and have accumulated a good bit of dust and grit. I'm afraid to load them, they might clog/damage the dies. Any suggestings on cleaning them that won't mess up the wax ring?
  12. Some idiot left ammo in his mags, and the blaster locks back after the next to last round. What's a long term reliable spring option? Asking for a friend.
  13. Wind was behind me today. With 20 shots at 25 yards, even the fliers stayed within a 1 1/8" square.
  14. Well, it was a slightly breezy day, but the berm blocked some of it. 15 shots in a 2.5" x 2.5" square, up and left of the bull. Sadly, the lower right edge had the only hits near the bullseye. I'm not sure what's going on, but I could use some critique. Here's what I know. I am left handed, and shot from a concrete bench with bags front and rear. Breezy day, slow fire. Bergera B14R, and had been sighted in at the same range, a few months ago. Ammo is Remington Thunderbolt 22LR. 50 yard distance, and scope was clear on the target. The 2.5 x 2.5 inch square was mostly upper left to the bullseye. The rifle would often settle to the right. Given Bergara's reputation, I'm pretty sure it ain't the hardware. What do I need to do differently?
  15. 20 MOA base on order, we'll see how the optics fit when I get them.
  16. My concern about the 20 MOA base is the forward outer diameter of the scope, trying to keep the rings low, and probably needed a sun screen for the Texas sun. I'm not sure the angle won't create a problem. Already have the AB app, part of the learning is learning how to use it.
  17. Right now I'm focused on foundational skills, so the hardware will be geared towards the 100 yard flat range. So far I'm thinking the EGW 0 MOA scope mount, Harris 6-9" bipod, and a friend's Vortex scope. 50 yards with regular 22LR, and 100 with SV to build my dope. I already have the mat, front and rear bags. Class is scheduled for the end of the month. Besides practice, what am I missing?
  18. Just talked to Chris, there, and they are out of stock. I'll keep checking back. A friend is talking to me about a Vortex he has spare, so that bit may be taken care of.
  19. And if you know of a supplier for the magazines, I could use a couple.
  20. @ranger, that was a really cool write-up. Thanks! I had an RPRR, but trying to shoot right handed never really worked for me. The Bergara 14R now comes in lefty, and fits a Remington 700 chassis if their web page is correct. The AICS mag is a nice touch, too. The adjustable stock.... AAARRRGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!! The local gunshop didn't have a line one the Steel version but the Carbon in lefty 22LR should be in tomorrow. Now i need rings, and to start working on a scope. Any recommendations? A 30mm tube is the standard, right? My ususal ammo is CCI SV, but I'll have to get the scope before doing any testing. I've got bags, but no bipod yet.
  21. Being new, again, to precision rifle, I'd appreciate critique of my reentry plan. Please share your wisdom. I'm going to attend a long range rifle course the end of the month. I attended one a few years ago; I had a great teacher, but my foundational skills and hardware weren't there. Shot some NRL22, and then life overcame my drive. My goal for the class is to enjoy it, and re-learn as much as possible. I'm happy to rent their gear, since it'll be what I need and won't break the personal bank. My Savage Axis (223) under a Millett won't take me to 1,000+ yards. After class, if I'm still enthused, then I'll look at a 22LR bolt gun and a decent starter scope. Rifle selection is limited by my being a lefty. So far the options seem to be the Tikka T1X or the CZ457. I'm open your suggestions. The 22 will give me a cheap way to practice the drills and skills from the class, and build the foundation that I'm so lacking in. I have fantastic spousal support, but it would take a year to save up for a "real" PRS style rifle. Given that I'm old, and have a bad back, actual competition isn't going to happen, but I can practice like it. Shooting the 22 for a year, with occasional trips to the long range with a rental rifle, should get me to the point where I can actually use the nice hardware. How can I improve this plan?
  22. Thanks! I didn't know that. I've read on how to use mils, but never really learned it. Something else to add to the learning plan. :)
  23. Thanks! I have a class planned at NorhtEast Texas Tactical, and I'm going to use their gear. My plan is to put some glass on my existing rifle and build my shorter range skills.
  24. Specifically: https://athlonoptics.com/product/argos-btr-gen2-8-34x56-aplr2-ffp-ir-moa I'm getting back into precision rifle, and this will be my first big step. My skill doesn't measure up to the higher end stuff. Yet.
  25. I shoot slowly, and one of my first goals is to keep my mental game going throughout the match. Last month's match was the first I've shot in years, and I had the highest A hits of everyone in the match. I still didn't meet my "mental game" goal the entire match, but kept it for while.
