  1. They are made of brass (some are nickeled)  and can be recycled.  Need to watch out because there are primers out there that have steel cups.  First time I tried to recycle them for $ the guy whipped out a magnet and showed me. I didn't know they existed up to that point so now I run a magnet over them before turning them in.

  2. Hate to say it but it sure looks like a re-chambered 9 x ?? barrel.  Looks like there may have been a "23"  under the over-stamped "25" because the "CP 9x" looks the same (cut with CNC) but the "25" is different (stamped not cut).   Not saying its bad, just not a purpose made 9x25 bbl. It would make sense if it was a 9x23 bbl because not much of that out there these days.

  3. I dropped one of these in my PSA 9mm and it is working great, just need to mess with the load a bit.  I found that with mine I can pull back on the charging handle and just get the bolt back far enough to engage the bolt hold open. Not easy to do quickly and with  lots more pressure on the bolt hold open than normal I don't plan on doing it much but was surprised when I could actually do it.  Probably one of those things that is gun specific depending on the parts used.

    oh what pretty photos.

brass snow flakes and jacketed bullets with lube grooves.

do you anneal the jackets before you swage them?

Yep, I typically hit them with a weed burner till they are dull red and then let them cool. Depending on the cast bullet I use as the core I will sometimes seat the core in the case them hit them with the torch so I don't see the lube grooves in the bullet after swaging.

  5. 165's for major in .40 is typically only in 6" guns for a fast slide velocity and quick return.  I use 165's for major loads in my lightened slide 6" STI but prefer 180/200 grs for my 5" guns.

  6. I picked up a special edition "IPSC ULTRA" with a DVC serial number and crest back in the 90's while stationed in Europe. It was chambered in .41 AE and while I shot it in that I also got a conversion kits which was basically a 9mm barrel/spring & mags. The .41 AE has a rebated 9mm sized case head so the slides were 9mm breachface.  I had a Briley 9mm barrel (they used to make) fitted when I got back to the states and just use small frame 9mm mags.

  7. 5 port hybrids used to be the norm for open guns so it was probably built more than a few years ago.  I have a Wayne Berquist Caspian (38 Super) and an SV (9x23) both built in the 90's that have a 5 port  hybrid barrel and comp.  They ran fine and typically used a slower burning powder for as much propellant gas as possible.  I had the SV converted over to 9mm major with a new un-ported Schuman barrel and a new comp. Nothing wrong with the 5 port hybrid and comp as long as you find the right load for it.

I have used this mould for loads in 9mm cases with my 929 and in .38 shot Colt and Mid cases in my 627. I cast these types of bullets (going to be shot slow) with a heavier lead mix and these come out at 160 gr.  and then I HiTek coat and size to .358"

I also have been using a bullet from a NOE Mould that was designed as a heavy bullet for 9mm's and I got it for shooting in my 929. I also HiTek and size these to .358"  This may meet your criteria as it can be had in a 4 or 5 cavity.  If you look it is a tapered bullet so it can be seated out to your guns parameters.  In the pic you can see the bullet loaded (to 1.200") in 9mm cases for my 929,  then loaded (to 1.145") in nickeled 9mm cases for shooting in my autos (Glocks)  and then the bullet unloaded. This bullet comes out at a perfect 160 grs. with my softer alloy and is a great shooter in both my revolvers and my Glocks.

I have tightgroup and have N320 coming in next week. Will try both and see which I prefer.

Fellow shooters that us the same 929 gun, run 3.9 N320 and 3.0 TG with the 160 Bayou or similar coated bullet to make Minor PF.

    .

May want to check the N320 load, sounds a bit high.  I use 3.2 N320 with bayou 160's to make minor with my 929.

  10. 4.0 gr.  of AA#2 is my standard load for a 124 gr. coated bullet in 9mm so I don't think you are out of line with the powder charge.  Sounds like something else is going on.  Did you try and fire the same rounds again in the 1911? Even if it looks like you got a good hit always try them again to see if they fire the 2nd time.  If they do then it is a primer seating issue.

  11. Sounds like you got a good deal. I still have my Caspian open gun in 38 super,  nothing wrong with it at all. Back in the day the only issue was big sticks but since then there are more options available today.

I think your scope and mount are probably your weak spot on  the gun.  I have shot that set up before and I found it top heavy and it balanced very strangely even with the all metal gun. You got lucky that it didn't have one of these Red buff mounts that a lots of people put on Caspian's. I would check the hole pattern but the 3 spaced holes like you have may have been drilled for the standard  C-more Serendipity which would make changing to a C-more extremely easy. Since that seemed to be the standard at that time,  that hole pattern was used by lots of different types of mounts.

In the attached pic you can see my Wayne Bergquist built Caspian with a standard serendipity mounted on it. Also, EGW makes a great slip on mag well for the Caspian frame, I like mine.

  12. I had two flat 3.5 single stage CMC triggers in my parts build box and decided to try one out in my PSA. Went in fine and hand cycled fine with no reset problems.  Went out to shoot it and had 100% reset problems from the first shot. It would fire a shot but not reset so I would have a new round in the chamber but couldn't fire it. I tried to see If I could get some reset out of it but got zero so the trigger definitely didn't like my bolt.
