Finally read the FAQs

Finally read the FAQs (3/11)

  1. I have found that I like the grips above mag release, and bottom of trigger guard on the other side, smooth. That dang beavertail hurts my ability to rotate the gun in my had to reach the mag release. So smooth grips help me there.
  2. If prep means an actual stop of trigger movement I don't prep the DA pull . What I do is vary the trigger pull speed. The trigger pull starts maybe 2/3-3/4 of the way from holster to sights on target. On a close target the shot fires right as the sights line up on the target. On a further away or smaller target, the pull is slower so there are a few tenths of a second w/ the sights lined up allowing me to more accurately place the sights. I agree w/ coloradonick that prepping (stopping then restarting trigger movement) is not the way. My reason is stiction. Let's say you stop at 75% of trigger travel. Then start again. Unless the trigger is absolutely smooth, the amount of effort needed to start the trigger moving again, is going to be higher than the effort to move it through that 75% spot w/ continuous movement. wide rear sights

I don't get what you mean by 'safety poking up'. Looking at the side view 92 FS Inox Pistol | Beretta and at my guns, the bottom of the dovetail gets near the left side safety but the portion that is actually the sight is a few 1/1000s of an inch above the top surface of the slide. I am pretty sure the sight you linked will work fine.

JB Weld then. To make it easier to get a given width increase and a nice flat surface use the JB to glue small pieces of sheet metal onto the sides of the rear sight. JB is kind of runny so I'd glue onto one side at a time and set the sight down w/ that side down. One other option would be an adjustable sight. wide rear sights

File or dremel? I'd measure the front sights on both guns first and then the rears. Within reason you want the difference between the front and rear to equal what you like on the CZ. I 'think' I remember that the Novak rears on the EliteII were wider than stock so you might want to check them. Novak Designs Inc. - Products - 92 Series (novaksights.com)
  6. A couple of things to check; Does the trigger bar act normally when you dry fire and watch it? Sometimes the bar rubs on the underside of the grip panel. look for wear on the bar and the panel. Either dremel extra clearance from the grip panel or put a couple layers of tape on the frame around the top grip screw to space it out a bit. Since it is so intermittent it will be hard to track down so I'd replace the trigger bar spring and sear spring.

    LTT trigger job

Funny how these things vary. I got a Defensive last summer. Out of the box it was the worst trigger I have had on any 92s. But all our 92s at least have stock stuff diy polished and 13# hammer spring. 4 of them have NP3 TJIBs from LTT and 11 or 12# springs. On the Defensive first thing I did was an 11 # spring. Shortly thereafter it got LTT NP3 trigger bar, hammer, 10# spring, and a plain black steel short reach trigger. Now it was in the general area at least. Some extra polishing got it to where it is the best trigger of all out 92s but only by a little bit.
  8. I forgot to ad that I use these tubes. Replacement Fiber-Optics (truglo.com) Available in many sizes incl .040 and .060 inch.
  9. I can't remember for sure if it is .040" or .062". Any FO sights I get that are .040 get drilled out w/ a common 1/16 (.062") drill bit so I can get a slightly larger dot.
  10. Some of you have been making comments about the 92X. This thread is about 92X Performance which is an all steel, frame safety, completely different gun than an aluminum frame, slide safety, 92X.
  11. Don't forget that the guy who broke 2 92X Perfs was running 9# recoil springs. OTOH I have been shooting my 92X Defensive for about 9 months. Two idpa matches and at least one practice session each month. Stock recoil but 10# hammer spring. Replaced the extractor w/ Wilson extra power version at maybe 5 months. Just replaced it again and added a .010" shim. It sure was difficult to get that extractor pin installed and I was concerned the casing would have a hard time slipping under the hook of the extractor. So I hand cycled maybe 15 shells through it. Some I moved the slide forward very slowly. No problem at all getting the shell in position. Just maybe 200 rnds so far but working fine.
  12. How about buy an extra sight and have small ears welded onto it.
  13. IDPA just released V2 of the 2023 rules. I concentrated on the holster stuff since I diy mine. this is one of the rules. "8.5.1.12 All IDPA legal holsters must hold the butt of the firearm clearly above the top of the belt. Concealment and cant angle rules apply" I have searched all around for a definition of 'butt of the firearm' w/o any luck. I like the holster as low as I can go. So in my quick drawing which do you think would be legal? I am hoping 2 is legal. 14. Some of the answer depends on how bad your vision is. I have astigmatism and am left eye dominant and right handed. In my shooting glasses I have the entire left lens set for front sight distance. I have my normal trifocal lens in the right eye. This works fine for me. I can shoot w/ my daily trifocals but trying to keep the sights in that middle part of the lens is too much work for idpa matches. These won't help astigmatism but do help a lot w/ focus. Merit Optical Attachment from Brownells: A Cure for Fuzzy Sights (gunblast.com) You can try the concept by using a piece of electrical tape w/ a 1/16" hole in it. We down the sticky side and put it on your glasses lens. Move quickly while it is still wet to get it positioned correctly. The result is amazing.

    LTT trigger job

Question for you guys. When I do a trigger pull measurement I run the little plastic thing on the hook along the inside of the trigger guard. In DA I start pulling the tool a little downward as well as rearward to keep it from riding up the trigger. I ask because my DA pulls are all at 5# or a little under on the guns in my Jan9 post. My #s seem to be a little lower than those in this thread.
