Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. OP here. I took the plunge and picked up a Colt CRP-18 . . . EC. No, I don't live in the People's Republic of California, so bullet button swapped and I'm good to go. This looks like the beginning of a beautiful friendship. Note: The other feature those looking at EC version should be aware of is that its stock length is locked on the CTR. I think mine's locked in position 6, which actually fits me.
  2. Good question - best to call Bold Ideas/Colt Competition. I called earlier this afternoon, but they're closed Fridays. :-) Was hoping I'd luck into some expertise here.
  3. Good point, I didn't realize the CA compliant had bullet button requirement. That's a simple swap, though. Is there anything other than the bullet button and 10-round mag different between an EC and a standard CRP-18?

  5. Looking to plink and move into 3-gun. Both of these guns look good to me. Of these two, which would you choose and why?
  6. Thanks for sharing all. The breadcrumbs are doing me justice as I begin to handload 9mm for my PPQ.
  7. Returning to shooting after a 10 year hiatus. Thrilled to be back.
  8. If you're comfortable with it, that's really whats key. Have you shot other pistols to compare it to yourself? I'm the worst person I know for running out and buying a pistol that I think I like and then finding something I like better right after that. I fall in love too easy. My local gunshop loves me.
  9. I'm also a big fan of flat black rears with the fiber front. If the value of the fiberoptic front is to be able to quickly track it, why distract with fiberoptic rears?
  10. Thanks for the video links, Pierruiggi. That was really helpful.
  11. Aggie Dad, it's great that you had the trigger prep epiphany! Bruce Gray and his team drilled this into my head at a recent training session. Believe me my slappy-happy motorskills wanted to reject it, but with hours and hours of dryfire at home, it's beginning to be second nature. The accuracy I understand, but for some reason it feels so much slower to do proper trigger prep . . . but the timers don't lie . . . it really cuts your splits too. I'm looking forward to reading Brian's book too!
  12. The public range where I shoot is usually filled with experienced and safe shooters. However, it's located in an industrial park, and some times in the early evenings they have groups of guys stop in from work . . . usually with little to no shooting experience. I usually step out for a coke on those days, and by the time I'm back the yahoos have usually hosed through their ammo.
  13. Been shooting for 3 months and "unfortunately" this shooting habit looks like it's become a lifelong fascintation already. On the average, I've been shooting 1000 rds (.40 SW) per month, and I just joined the IDPA and am looking into local USPSA clubs. Reloading seems like a sound financial investemtn, but I'm unsure if I would be best with a 550b or the 650XL. I have absolutely no reloading experience. I'll be reloading .40SW for sure, and perhaps 9mm (I own two 9mms) and maybe eventually .45ACP. I'd rather not spend any more than I have to, so I can squander the money on ammo, training, and as for drives to the competitions. Will a 550b work for me? Or will I end up kicking myself for not buying a 650 before long? Thanks for your guidance.
  14. Another noob checking. Stumbling on this forum is like hitting the lottery! A lot of incredibly knowledgeable people on so many topics that fascinate me (IDPA, IPSC/USPSA, reloading, technique/drills). I can already see that I am going to spend far too much time on this site.
