  1. I certainly dont qualify as an expert opinion here but I can tell you from experience - go STI 38 super and skip right past all the wasting money. Ive got a G35 that I shot for 2 years all the while thinking I had lost any ability to hit like I wanted/used too. I came up with every reason in the book why I couldnt run the gun like I wanted to - grip angle, sights, weight. So now I own a G35 with various mag wells to add weight, numerous sights, a CCF race frame with 1911 angle insert as well as all the parts to rig it over to an open runner. Still cant run it like I want. Got frustrated finally and decide to get a REAL open gun. Bought a Bedell (?) STI in 40. Spent the money to have it "fit" me a bit better, all the mags, and goodies. Yes, I can run the gun the way I want. Amazingly it shoots better than I do Worked up an open load that runs flat and fast. Of course I have to change mags a bit more than the super boys but at least Im hitting like I want. But then....... I got to run a 38 Super and the differences were night and day - cant really explain, but the end result is I now own a G35 sitting on a shelf, a 40 STI sitting on a shelf, and a 38 Super STI that I wouldn't trade to save my life. Your correct mags and brass cost a bit more but the benefits outweigh the % of cost in my opinion. And for the record Daves Glock has the markings on the slide but I'm not sure Gaston would recognize most of the parts inside it. Glock's are excellent guns, accurate, reliable, etc, but in the end they are designed as combat pistols where "minute of torso" is the goal. Skip a few steps in the frustration/learning curve and just get the 38 Super. My non expert opinion.
  2. I had good luck with 165gr JHP over 6.0 of 7625. Granted that's a weight and powder change for you but it does make the comp work and hits PF with about 5 to spare.
  3. How do you captivate the entire USPSA world? TOP SHOT Season Finale
  4. Oh man, palms are sweating and fingers are twitching - shooter ready?
  5. Oh MY GOD - I just lost a ton of money! Never would have believed it if I hadn't seen it
  6. OH MY!!! Second Challenge is shaping up to be a.........
  7. Yeah buddy - of course Chris just put on a good show as well. Wish this final could have been the final 5 and somehow kept Blake. All these guys are great guys and I almost (almost) expect a surprise performance.
  8. 1st challenge - was there any doubt?
  9. We really missed the boat on this one - could have started a pool, perhaps given odds and the like. Oh well maybe next season
  10. The number I have here is 1.210. I couldn't find squat for numbers so I measured factory HST and Ranger SXT's and set mine a tad longer - they were 1.200ish I also backed the crimp way off. From what I see the XTP bullet is VERY soft. Once I pulled a couple rounds I saw a huge deformation of the bullet base. With the crimp backed off when I pull them I see "factory" striations but no squish. Im going to try some lower than 4.1 and see what I get for numbers.
  11. Did the search function but couldn't find the answer. I would prefer to use Titegroup with my 40 loads as I do with my 45's but was told (repeatedly) that it doesn't produce "enough gas" to make the comp on my open gun work. Is this correct or is he wrong? I guess if TG wont work the comp I could find another powder but then the whole vicious circle begins again. I really want one powder for my limited and open loads across the board. If that's possible
  12. Did a fair bit of experimenting and then drove the tires off back and forth to the range. Got all the way down to 4.1 with TG and found that 4.2 made 165PF and was fairly soft. 4.3 came in around 175 average. Accuracy across the span 4.1 to 5.0 was oddly about the same.
  13. Well I guess Im glad to have seen this thread. Perhaps a bit too late since I have a frame on the way in. Of course this ones been run for a couple grand worth so maybe the problems are dremeled away by now. We'll see since I have a 35 top ready to go on it.
  14. Remind me to never show up at your matches - and tasteful use of waders there.....
  15. Ive got a nice single stack Kimber but for the life of me cant get used to the smaller diameter of the single stack. Spoiled by the S_I grip size. Any suggestions for grips that will fatter 'er up without covering the front checkering?
  16. Took a Spartan to the local gunsmith to install a CMore Serendipity on it. Next thing its jamming like crazy as you describe. Hours of testing and fiddling later the local whiz tuned the ejector and poof it works great. Lesson - not all smiths know everything, and proper tuning eliminates problems. If a case gets jambed its usually NOT the mounts fault. As for Quinn mounts, I love mine. Dot is right where front sight would be so I think I don't have to change anything. The local whiz hates them but he has a "flying thumb" grip and he gets whacked. My 2 cents........
  17. Cant really talk to the Bullseye shooting other than to say that most folks I know who do that use a magnified optic. As for the Glunk, putting an optic on it indeed put you into Open and if your willing to go there you need to do more than the optic (as stated before). Most popular would be something like a Jpoint where its slide mounted - mounting on the frame gets you about 50% accuracy due to the slop and flex. Put an optic on the Bullseye gun and start building an Open Glunk if you want to go that route. My 2 cents worth.......
  18. Ive spent the last couple days going batty trying to find load data for Titegroup and Hornady XTP 45's. Ive got 230 and 180's. So far every thing Im seeing is contradictory. Even the OAL is all over the place. Anyone got a set of numbers they can share?
  19. Kimber Compact CDP in a Kytac Braveheart IWB daily
  20. I actually know a guy who is working on a small camera integrated into the CMore. Hes also talked about building a timer into the grip - Ill have to call and see if hes gotten anywhere with it all. Of course if it all comes to pass were going to look like the "Tacticool" crowd with coffee makers hanging from their AR's
