I have a classic Thai restaurant story that happened to me back in the late 80’s early 90’s. I was in a Thai restaurant in San Antonio with my mother. It was my first Thai experience. Now, at the time I was into hot food; I ate habaneros for kicks. So anyway, the nice Thai lady is there to take my order and I ordered and said I wanted it spicy, 4 Stars. (They had a 4 star spicyness scale, 4 being the hottest.) She asked if I’d had 4 stars before and I said no, but I told her that spicy food was old hat to me… She said she’d give me 1 star. I said, no I want 4 stars. This went back and forth for a while and she finally agreed and said, OK I bring you 4 star. So the food comes and man it’s frick’n hot. I mean, I’m dying. It’s almost too hot. But, of course I eat it. The lady comes to the table to ask how everything is and I say it’s great, which it was. She asks if it was spicy enough and I said, with an emphatic nod, that it was. She looks at me with a smile and says, I give you 2 star… I’ve never been able to find good Thai like that since. They had a fish sauce dipping sauce that was awesome, nam prik? All the other Thai I’ve found has been dumbed down for American palates…

Ok guys. I've written off the dryfire in the yard idea. I have since printed out some small sized IPSC targets onto brown card stock and I think this is going to work fine for indoor use. I may eventually get a blue gun and try some movement drills outside though. And again, let the record show that I am a gun safety fanatic, and the place I was thinking about doing this has a good backstop... Thanks for the replies...

In TN we have don't have CCL, but rather Handgun Carry Permits. Concealed is most certainly recommended, but not "required" by law. And for the record. Still no dryfire in the yard... :-(

Well, I guess practicing movement could be done with a blue gun... Maybe the idea is crazy after all...

As much as I don't want to, I'm leaning towards getting permission from the police... I'd hate to get shot by an overzealous rookie police officer...

Hello All, I'm somewhat space challenged in my house, which limits what kind of dry fire exercises I can do inside. My yard is about an acre and somewhat terraced so I have a backstop, and we have a lot of trees and the yard is mostly private, but I'm sure before long a neighbor would see me outside running around with a gun... Does anyone know, and I know this depends on which city you live in, if it is illegal to dry fire in the yard? I have a Handgun Carry Permit it that matters. I've thought about calling the chief of police and asking him, but I generally don't like to ask questions I don't want the answer to. Oh, and I have a nosy, old-lady neighbor that would love to call the cops on me... Which does complicate matters somewhat... Thanks!

While making dinner tonight the following played on the iPod on random... "Can I take my gun.. up to heaven... she's always been by my side..." It's kinda stuck in my head now...

The Shure Earbuds are awesome. I have the E2c's. The great thing about them is that they basically function as earplugs and speakers. They have made mowing the lawn a pleasure for me because I can catch up on my podcasts while mowing... Also great for traveling, but you do have to be careful in that they do block out most sound. I'm also not big on the FM transmitters. I've had little success with mine...

I was thinking that to the extent that it is supposed to "tame recoil" you'd have to apply force with your strong hand thumb, and doing that would cause tension in the trigger finger hand and slow down the trigger finger... Also would tend to cause milking of the grip. But all that is predicated on actually gripping with the strong hand thumb. I know this because I used to grip my weak hand with my strong hand thumb thinking it strenghtend my grip, which it may have, but it didn't do my shooting much good. I think I'm more accurate now that my strong hand thumb hangs loose... And I'm also anti-gizmo on general principle...

Wouldn't something like that negatively affect trigger control?

Traveled to Australia from Tennessee this summer and had the Surefire in my computer bag the whole time. No one said a thing... US, Figi, and throught Australia and nary a peep. But your mileage may vary...

Thanks guys, This all makes sense so far... So what's the logic on how to shoot a stage? In IDPA you shoot as fast and accurately as you can. At what point in IPSC do you go for speed and settle for some C/D hits? I know this is a very open ended question... If it relates to this question, I have a SSP Master rating in IDPA... I suppose I might be an A or B shooter in IPSC... Thanks!

Hello All, I'm getting back into shooting after a 2 1/2 year layoff... Anyway, IPSC has come to my area recently, and all I was ever able to shoot before was IDPA. I really want to understand IPSC scoring, but I haven't had much luck finding an online tutorial on IPSC scoring, hit factors, and their associated tactics... Does anyone know of such a resource? It sounds like Saul's new book might be the "dead tree" ticket, but I'd love to find some info online too... Thanks! Howard Walker

The guy is amazing and certainly an inspiration for us Glock shooters... His movement, or the speed of it, is definitely impressive. I've often wondered how much his hockey playing had an influence on his speed...

What's confusing me is all the other screws. Are they showing where the lenses failed?...

The Square deal is a great press if you don't want to spend a lot, but want to load one pistol caliber. I don't have a 650, but have seen a lot of them have primer problems. For me, it's either a SD or a 1050... Howard

Hey Wide, I feel that loose is probably the way to go. And I realize that the bill drill really isn't representative of shooting skills as a whole, but it is a simple and repeatable drill to set up and run. And it's a neat party trick too... I assume I'm just going to have to relearn the timing of the new stance... Howard
