  1. Found @GlockInc and @MassadAyoob ... Any other suggestions to follow?

  3. Yeah, sorry about that. I ran into it on a whirlwind trip. It's actually south of San Fran in Santa Clara. I just remember we ended that day in Redding. Lots of driving.
  4. Occasionally, I find myself in an unfamiliar part of the country, and have found some great gun shops. Southeastern Guns in B'ham, Reed's in NoCal, Collector's in Houston, Arego's in AR. I thought it would be nice to have a resource of really great gun shops. Doesn't matter where in the country, if you'd recommend it to a friend, recommend it here
  5. Yes, but I'm not looking for the opinion of mall ninja's. I'm asking here because I'm looking for accurate, well informed opinions.
  6. I heard a comment Sunday that got me thinking. Tom Russell, Rich Wyatt, Ed Head; those were some of the names I heard mentioned as some of the top tactical instructors for pistol and rifle. These guys were all Jeff Cooper disciples. Bennie Cooley is a name that comes to mind to me. So, the question is, who is, or who are, the top tactical instructors today for the armed citizen? I went through Bennie's course back in '01 or '02, and I can't imagine a better course out there. What is your opinion? Best instructor, best school, etc?
  7. This is a gun with a muzzle brake and synthetic stock. Out of a 3 shot group, it consistantly throws a flyer. We tried different ammo, different shooters, and we are sure that the scope and receiver hardware is tight. We are looking at glass bedding. Do you think that will solve the problem? If not, do you have any other suggestions?
  8. An update for those who are interested. My Pastor ended up buying the T3 Lite Blued, and we put a Leupold VX-III 1.5-5 Illuminated Reticle with Leupold bases and 30mm rings. After we put a Comb Riser, probably Beartooth, he will have just under $1000 in the entire package. We've done a little shooting with it so far, and have been very impressed. This should make a very good Scout rifle. We will likely end up putting together several more of these packages while these scopes remain on sale.
  9. Are you saying that the gun needs to go to a gunsmith to have this sort of performance? Or are you saying that it is hard to find a gunsmith to work on it because it is not as customizable as the Remington 700? Thanks for the reply, and the suggestions on the loads to use.
  10. Just looking for some first hand information. A group of us are considering using them as scout rifles with something like the Leupold Mark 4 1.5x5x20 M2 scope. 5 Round magazines are a little expense, and from the looks, they are very customizable. But, we intend to use them as lightweight scout rifles. Good or bad, please share. We haven't bought one yet, but I have about 8 friends who are all about to buy them at the same time.
  11. ...but, don't stop now.) What would you say the next step is?
  12. I wonder what he thinks of them too. In the most basic terms, I put Glock, M&P, XDs, Taurus 24/7 (kind of), PX4 Storm (but with hammer), and that new Ruger all in the same class. I would think if someone has an issue with one, they would probably have an issue with all, as opposed to Sig/Beretta/Ruger P Series and 1911/Hi-Powers. Please don't flame. I know I'm casting a mighty big net. Anyways, I'll talk to him more on Memorial Day. I really do appreciate all the feedback. It looks like the main differences are the grip angle, quality of sights, and the trigger. As far as changing minds, the problem is we have influence over about 80 men, most of who have never shot a gun. I bite my tongue a lot around these guys, but I really couldn't let this one go. For years we have disagreed over Glocks. Then, when he came championing the M&P, I got pretty hacked off. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing some greatness in the M&P over the Glock. Thanks again for all your inputs.
  13. It might be impossible to change his mind. I'm just hoping to open it a little. If he sees the benefits of the M&P, maybe that will open the door to the Glock. I'm just making sure my ducks are all in a row on the similarities.
  14. I just read a couple of threads, some of which got shutdown. In an effort to avoid that, I'll give the full back story. For those that don't want to read the back story, my question is: What, if any, is the main/major difference between Glocks and S&W M&Ps? Back story: I have a very good friend who is a Jeff Cooper trained Master Instructor. He teaches and uses Weaver. Also, he has never been to a USPSA match. Great guy, carries a 1911 everywhere he goes. Again, a very good friend. But, he is not a Glock fan. Not only that, he thinks it is a worthless gun, and would only carry it if it was the last gun available to him. So, tonight, there was a group of us meeting, and he brings out a Smith and Wesson M&P in 40S&W, the 4.25". I look over at him, smile, and say, "So I guess this means you have changed your mind on Glocks as well." He responds, "Oh, no, no. This is a FAR SUPERIOR gun to the Glock." Then he proceeds to talk about the dehorning and how visible the sights are. He probably went a little further in detail, but my mind had already shut off and steam was coming out of my ears. From what I can tell about the two guns, the trigger pull is a little different, the Glock being more of a two stage and the M&P more smooth, or roll. M&P might not have the unsupported chamber (I don't know). Glock has a great reliability track record, where S&W track record with autos is sketchie at best. Is there a major difference between the two guns? If so, please let me know. If there is a danger of the thread getting shut down, please send your response to me directly. My friend and I are the 2 "gun experts" in our group of friends, and it would be nice if we could agree on something other than 1911s. I guess I should be thankful that we agree that M&P is a good substitute for guys not willing to put out $1000 for a decent 1911. I just wish I could turn him over to Glocks as well.
  15. If you are using the newest version of Internet Explorer, its the gray square next to the Home button. (Its pretty obvious that I'm not a techie guy.) If that button is orange, then you have the option of using the RSS reader for that page. Go to your favorite blog, or a newspaper web site (www.dallascowboys.com) and click on the orange button. The subscribe to the RSS. Go into favorites, click on the orange button in favorites, and you will see your RSS feed. I currently have 22 feeds. The benefit is that I don't have to go to all 22 web sites to see if there is any new information. I just use my RSS and I'm notified instantly. If I want more information, I just click on the title of the article, and that takes me to the web page. I'm sure someone could do a much much better job explaining, but I didn't want to leave you hanging waiting on a better answer.
  16. Just found this one: http://goodguysandguns.blogspot.com/
  17. I've starting reading blogs, and I'm amazed at how efficent using an RSS reader can be. But, on my blog list, there is a rather large hole on the gun industry. So, let me know what you have. Anything from equipment to shooting to politics, anything that effects our sport. Pat, I see you are lingering today. Do you have a blog, or know of any other gun writers with them? And yes, I do read this forum daily. A ton of great information here also.
  18. A road sign points the way to nearby towns Clinton and Prosperity in Newberry, South Carolina, January 25, 2008.
  19. You Tube Link WARNING!! This is as gross as expected. Watch at your own risk.
  20. Which brand would you say has the easiest jig to use?
  21. So, I'm looking at doing a bunch of trigger jobs, and you guys have been extremely helpful there. Now, about half the guns need beavertail grip safeties installed. I was thinking Ed Brown, but what is the current school of thought for the grip safety. We do want these to function, so just pinning the existing one is, at this point, out of the question. Also, after the filing and grinding, do most people cold blue, or totally refinish the gun?
  22. I'm looking for opinions on Brownells 080-785-000. I understand the basic principle, but would really like a kit that is all inclusive. I would just have a gunsmith do the trigger work, except I need to have 12 done immediately, with more on the way. So, gunsmith is not an option. I've actually done a trigger job in the past using a sear and hammer jig and stones. It was several years ago, and I don't see the same set up in Brownells. If the 080-785-000 is not the way to go, please recommend something better. Thanks!
  23. It was a couple of days before Christmas, and the teacher asked Mary McDonald, “What are you doing for Christmas?” Mary answered, “My daddy is Catholic, so on Christmas Eve, we are going to go to Mass, then come home and open presents.” Then the teacher asked Johnny Smith. “Well Teacher, my daddy is Protestant, so we aren’t doing anything on Christmas Eve, but we will wake up early on Christmas day, sing a few Christmas Carols, and open presents.” “That’s good Johnny. What about you Eli Weinstein?” “Well, my daddy is a merchant downtown. We don’t celebrate Christmas, but every year on Christmas day, we sit around and sing ‘What a friend we have in Jesus!”
