Steel Stages needed... Hi everyone. Wondering if some of you might have a few different Steel Stages you might be able to e-mail to me. I love that bevel cut of the guiderod tube on the front of the slide.

I'm left handed and shoot left handed. Shooting the Glock left handed is a real simple proposition. Use your left trigger finger for magazine release and slide release. Only thing I do not like is on my G34 and G35, they have the extended magazine release button. It tends to bite into my left middle finger while shooting. I need to swap them out to regular ole fashion magazine release buttons.

The Dates for the matches are going to be the Third Saturday of each month 9AM, but check the Albany Rifle and Pistol Club calendar and/or call the match director before making the trek. Some of the months the third Saturday gets consumed by "bigger" events so do check. As of right now we're good to go for the third Saturday in April (the 19th) at 9AM The match director is Paul Johnson, he can be reached through the ARPC website. The match on Saturday only had six shooters; small, fun and done before lunchtime Gene and Doug were both there, so the best any of us could really hope for is third place (I cam in fourth). I need to be paying more attention to this site/thread, getting the info out. I apologize, haven't gotten back to this thread. I believe you can shoot a 686 or a 44 Magnum. There is a power factor (not sure what it is, I'm just the hired (free) help for the match). You're gonna need your revolver, holster and some speed reloads. The match is six stages, I'm figuring on bringing 300-rounds of 45ACP for my 625, but don't think I'll even shoot half that. It's a great excuse to buy more good stuff. Sounds like we're going to have a pretty good crowd. Couple USPSA grand masters and IRC top-dogs are supposed to show, as well as all us lay folk. Well, somebody's gotta be slow to have the fast guys be fast.

In the latest newsletter from the Albany Rifle and Pistol Club (ARPC) there is mention of our first ICORE match. Seems as though the ARPC has gotten the ball rolling and has joined ICORE. First match is Saturday November 3rd at 1PM. There’s also going to be a little two stage "teaser" after Speed Steel on Saturday the 20th of October at 3PM, free if you shoot Speed Steel starting at 9AM.

I shoot mostly lighter fodder for Steel matches; love those Miculek grips for that. Tried a few rounds of full-power 10mm loads in the 610 w/JM grips, painful. If I'm gonna be shooting hot loads, I'll reinstall the beloved Pachmayrs.

Their Sevigny Carry w/Tritium looks interesting. Anyone have experience with those? Thanks, Chris

Hey gang, I’m looking for some help with sight selection. I’ve got a small pile of Glocks, most used for "homeland defense," a couple different pieces to carry and then the Practical/Tactical G34 and G35. I’d like to put the same sights on all of them, but need something that lends itself to competitive shooting with the G34 and G35. With that in mind; to be "Tactical" first and "Practical" (game gun) second, which sights do you all recommend? I’ve been eyeing the Custom Glock Racing Heinie Slant Pro Straight Eight w/CGR Race cut. Your thoughts?

With our local Steel matches, there is no power factor. I’m using a load my dad puts together using his cast 148gr RNs, don’t recall the powder or quantity, but it’s a very accurate little load. The front sight is integral with the rest of the barrel. A local guy, machinist by trade, avid revolver shooter by choice and now gunsmith is going to get it set up for the Hi-Viz sights I like. Can’t sell the holster... I need it. I’m left handed. Bought that a fun show when I had my other 66 and have never gotten rid of it. Guess it kinda kept me going to get another 66 some day. I’ll have to find some of those Comp IIIs , I’ve got one for my 686 and it seems to be fine, just don’t have much practice with them.

Just for fun in our little local Steel matches When I was in skool I picked up a Model 66 with a 6-inch barrel. Absolutely loved that gun; super fun to shoot. Like I’m sure everybody has done once or twice before, I traded it off. Wasn’t a concern at the time, figured I’d pick up another in no time… when ever I wanted. 16-years later... Wife's co-worker has to liquidate a few things. Among them a 6-inch 66-2. It needs some cleaning, one spring and to have the action cleaned up, but the 66, two HKS speed loaders, 1858rds of XM193 for the arfs and a couple Colt 20-round arf mags for $400 isn’t too shabby. Any kind of fast reload for the K-Frame is a PITA, but figure I’ll take it out on occasion for our local Steel matches where realoading isn’t always necessary (unless I miss).

RogerTterrible to hear your having this problem, but I’m glad I found this thread. I’ve got a 625-2 Model of 1988 and am having the exact same problem. Thought I was the only one. I’ve tried just about all the recommended fixes and will try those that I haven’t yet. As the 625 has been down now for several months, ive been shooting my little Glocks (shhh, don’t tell anyone). Was considering calling Smith and seeing if I can send it back for warranty work, see if they’ll fix it. I’m concerned that they won’t consider it warranty work as I’ve had the gun to a smiths shop to have the action cleaned up and trigger stop installed. I imagine it’s in need of a new cylinder. Any words of advise? Also, do the old model 25s have these problems? -Chris

Just started shooting my G34 in production and I’ve got a small pile of other Glocks. Just me, but I absolutely love em. Very disappointed in the company though. ZERO innovation or creative thinking. The biggest (and only) thing they can come out with a slim frame and ambi mag release. People have been modding the large Glock frame for years and the mag release isn’t rocket science and isn’t needed (my left handed opinion). There are so many other things they could/should do that would require very little if any effort, but would at least have them up to par with the rest of the industry. I’m sure everybody has some good ideas, but a few of mine are: Slim line (G36T) full-size, single stack 45ACP. They already have the G36, give it some vitamins, grow it a bit. They have the single stack magazine figured out, why not. Practical/Tactical (G34/G35) length 10mm and 45ACP. Just for kicks and giggles I was calling them the G40 and G41. The Glock Pro! They already make em for crying out loud. Sell em in Finland as G17 Pro, G19 Pro and G21 Pro. Different cool looking mag release, but also with a threaded barrel like SIG and HK already have. Seems so simple. Listen to the guys buying the guns, make something new (not just the 45GAP) and they will buy it. I would for sure.

What ever happened to the Ed Brown 10-round magazines? I've got a couple and really like them.

Would like to find some sights that will cover all the bases. Work well for Steel shooting and also would like to get into USPSA. I’d also like to have the sights suitable for a gun that might have to do double duty and live in the nightstand, protect the family. I recently came across the Heinie Tritium with CGR Race Cut. Its got the Straight 8 tritium lamps and a wider cut in the rear a la Warren sights. Might this be the do all sight set up?

I’ve been using a Safariland 002 cup Challenge for a while now and really like it. I did just pick up an Ernie hill holster thought and that seems to be nice too. As a matter of fact, I kinda like the hill for it more vertical attitude (not as much rake as the 002). Does Safariland still make the 002 in brown?

I’m only shooting Steel at this point, but I use my 5-inch 625-2 on a fairly regular basis and also have an old 5-inch 610 that comes out to play when I’m able to get around to loading some 40 S&W ammo for it. I’ve not heard of this 686 shooting 38 Super in moon clips, don’t mean to hijack, but can someone point me in a direction to learn more about this creature.

Wow guys, this is great. Neat to hear everybody’s background. I grew up shooting with my dad. Got into High Power Service Rifle 1986 at the age of 14; that wasn’t my game. Moved to Arizona in 1993 for school and that’s where everything really started. When I moved down there I had a Smith 629-?, a Taurus PT-92 and an SKS (everybody has got to start somewhere). While there I met some wonderful people who introduced me to all different facets of the gun world. One of them, a gunsmith, Neson Ford, got me hooked on Smith revolvers, Colt autos and the Class III world. As it is, I’d say I’m an avid shooter who dabbles in the competitive side of things. That dabbling is becoming more and more frequent and occupies more daydreams than before. I’ve still got a few Colt autos, but also enjoy the SIGs and Glocks. The class III world is very prohibitive, but I try to do my part and collect some stamps. I’ve also gotten into military type rifles; arfs, AKs, M14s and FALs. The Smith revolvers are my passion though. At the shows they are what really catches my eye. I’ve heard before some say that "a Glock doesn’t have a soul." The obverse then, a Smith revolver is all soul; there’s nothing like a big blue N-Frame.

revolver enthusiast or competitive shooter? Curious Are you a revolver enthusiast who shoots competitively? OR A competitive shooter who chooses a wheel gun? Just a question I have been pondering for a while now seeing some of the fast guys with all their equipment. Do they shoot anything else for fun? Is it all sport? Sold everything else off to fund the game? Or are you an enthusiast/aficionado who wants to play the game? What else do you enjoy?
