Work your way through in any order, or buy them all at once.

  2. Basically if you have chosen your powder and bullet, then working up your load is trying different powder charges, bullet seating depths, brass length, crimp, etc. The most basic would be to vary your powder charge. Start below your load as every gun is different. For precision rifle I would work in 0.1 gr increments. Load 10 rds at 23.5gr, 23.6gr, etc on up until you are just under the Book recommended maximum load. I am showing 24.7 as the max for the Sierra 77gr hpbt in a 1:7 twist. I would run this load up to 24.2 in those increments. If you are not seeing any pressure signs and your groups are still shrinking, then keep working up carefully being aware of the max load recommendations.

Go shoot each 10 bullet load for groups. You are looking for your group to shrink as well as the group to pattern high on the target. Pick the smallest/highest group for your load. For obvious reasons you want the smallest group possible. The reason for the higher group on the target is that your barrell will be at the highest point in its vibration, and theoretically will be at the point where it is moving the least. Similar to shooting a swinger at the point where it is changing direction.

This is a EXTREMELY basic description of working a load up. Do some research, get the sierra book. So many things can affect the cartridge accuracy. If you want to get super technical, you can work on varying trim length, Case overall length, Crimp(if any), etc.

  3. Great story. One of the younger shooters locally has made a habbit of bringing foreign friends to the range every summer. On of the females from germany had so much fun that she went through the process of getting a gun in germany. From what I understand it was a very laborious process to get the firearm. Had she not had the opportunity to shoot in the US, she would have never been interested.

  4. Told this one before, but one of my friends open guns was on its way back from the gunsmith when it came up missing. Stayed missing for a month until Fedex got a bill for $7000. Mysteriously the gun showed up a few days later.

  5. Depends on how much time you like to spend loading. I do not have enough time to load pistol rounds or high use rifle on a single stage. I do use a single stage for my precision rifle and 50bmg. If you want to load all your practice ammo for a week in 30-60 minutes, get the dillon. You do not have to get rid of the RCBS. Everybody should have multiple presses.

  6. Don't run on the edge.

I know how that sounds, but the power factor is a minimum standard, not a goal. If you need to run 175+pf to not worry about it...then that might be the way to go.

Last time I ran my ammo at a major, I thought I was safe at 172PF. I lost 5.5pf at the chrono. I did not think I was running on the edge, but 166.5 was a little to close for comfort. If my bullets had not weighed heavy it would have been even closer. I do not try and run on the edge, and I think lots of people can tell Chrono station experiences where they thought they were safe by quite a bit, but got knocked down to minor.

If weighing is not mandatory can I just tell the chrono station that my average bullet weight is 182.1 and have them calculate the PF that way?

  7. Flex indicated that that's the pistol he earned GM with in Prod!

 This thread got Flex to clean his gun so he could take some pictures and post them. :P Usually he would just post a picture of his gun with dirt all over it, but he really wanted to show off the engraving this time. :roflol:

  8. If you are not weighing the bullets, how accurate can the PF calculation be. I thought bullets were always weighed for the chrono station. Not to determine the difference between 124gr and 130gr, but to determine a precise PF. My 180gr bullets actually weigh between 179.8 to 183grains. depending on how the weight averages out, that could allow for a difference in over 10fps to still make PF if you were running on the edge. Weighing should be mandatory if you are gonna chrono.

  9. I just purchased the Panasonic SDR-S26. It is a great SMALL camera with 70X optical zoom. It records onto SD cards. I think it is awesome. It records in standard definition, but with the 70X zoom, you can really keep the image close. It has a web mode for uploading directly to YouTube. I have been using it for about a month, and think it is great for out sport. Most of our videos from "Are you ready" to ULSC are short enough that you can record alot of stages on one SD card. Then you can transfer onto a DVD. I have only watched on my laptop, so I am not sure yet how clear on the TV, but I anticipate it to be pretty good.

I used if during a class with Max and Travis. One of my buddies was taking the class as well, so I just put initials on two SD cards, and swapped them depending on the shooter. Then we could both take our cards home at night to look at them.

At $299 from BB I thought it was a great deal as well. Cheap enough that you are not going to stress about it during the match.

Below is a link to a video taken with the camera. I was videoing one handed while trying to score targets. I did not have a tripod with me.

  10. It don't get any better http://www.patsreloading.com/patsrel/prices.htm

They've got Solo 1000, WC 820 (like H 110 works great in 357 and 44 mag) don't know about the other stuff

Pats is great, but they are always behind. My last shipment from them took about 2 months. Price is right and good people.

I have had good luck placing back orders with Powder Valley for powder. I think T and T reloading had quite a bit of powder in stock the other day.

  11. I figure they make up about 70% of the population…the odds are against us (that assumes I’m not one of them).

Recent statistics revealed in the US it is 53%.

Yea but they are multiplying exponentially.

  12. Also, find out what chrono equipment the match you are going to uses. Then if you can, chrono your reloads on the same chrono equipment. I have noticed at our local range the different chrono equipment on the same reload can have speed differences upwards of +/- 20-30fps. You may not get the exact same at the match but it should be pretty close.

Not always a gaurantee. Before a major, one of my friends tested his ammo on 3 different brands of Chronos. One was the exact model used at the match. His testing had him at 172 power factor on all three chronos. The match chrono had him at 165.5.

  13. One of the fellas I practice with has a lasermax in his glock that accidentally comes on sometimes when he is shooting a course. I tell him that if it happens in a match(USPSA) He is going to be put in open. He just says OH Well. I really do not think he would care. It is his carry gun, he does not want to take the Lasermax out for every match. Unless it is a low light situation, it really is a disadvantage to have the laser.

I am often dismayed by both the RO/SO who does not want to be the bad guy by making the call and also by the competitor who would complain about the call. Both know the rules! If they are not followed than they will be enforced. End of story.

  14. That is just the new ambidextrous eotech. It goes both ways!

    Randy

Edited for spelling and to add that you do have to stand in front of the rifle to adjust the optik, which fits right in with hollywood.

  15. My truck has been suffering from my lack of time to clean it. I finally did some trading with a detail company and had the full meal deal done. Washed and waxed, vacuumed and shampooed. It is better than it was new. I really love my truck, but love it more when it is clean.

  16. I hope this is not considered a rebuttal, but...

    And I LIKE painting! :roflol:

That is a rebuttal, and should not be permitted in the I HATE TO PAINT thread. ;)
