First stating crimp measurement to the Thousands is highly unlikely to be repeatable for a reloader… taper crimp until the case mouth yields a shiny burnished edge and stop. Full length resizing when reloading is Utterly important with today’s open ramped barrels. . I have three 40’s and two 10mm’s (5 40’s I guess). One stopped on my reloads…. Out of battery… Buldged brass was the culprit… little twist on sizing die and they were All happy! All my match ammo gets Plunk Tested… if you pick up range Or match brass your Sizing Step Number One is Critical!!

My standard is to taper crimp ( in a Separate Step!!) to a point of Just seeing a shiny burnished edge on case mouth … all semi auto cals. That’s it !

Been out of shooting touch of sorts… I know prices crazy though… I old been reloading when primers were 15 a though or Less… reload for a dozen cals. Just shot 10mm 30 carb and my 22 n GSL suppressor….. I’ve got a small stash of supplies. I’ve Stopped competing completely as I can not afford to shoot 150+ rnds in a match. Shot 30 rnds in my session other day… on a pension I just can not replace what supplies I use. My sons and in-laws will do alright some day. Hope I live to see a Better shooting/reloading day for the low Enders.

Close …. my main IDPA load for Years with RS Comp has been 4.0…….got me 740’s with a Zero 230. Close with mine at 170PF Recently tried 3.8 and still got marginally less with same Custom Caspian 5”45 Reloading To Each Their Own! I’ll say 3.6 is my next try for my old rare Centaur Quadra-Comp setup H

Chamber Check your round in your removed barrel at your bench. Flush with hood?? . Your pic looks good. Chamber one the extract and measure OAL for setback. If So then maybe a bit more. Been reloading since mid 80’s…. IDPA/IPSC….. my SOP for semiauto crimp is turn crimp down until you see a burnished shiny ring All around the Outside of case mouth… Done! H

My current 124gr load … an Everglades prj…. 3.9grs N320 1.125oal… thru a Old Govt 1911 did 1017avg… real close for state chrono matches…. 4.0/ 4.1 giveyouThe Fudge! H

I Simply Love this post…. I’m a Long time (64yrs old) ipsc, idpa John Farnum guy… 1911’s SIGs, HK’s, Won a state cdp title … next year got a xd40tac…. Man that gun was epic… only thing I did was put on a skinny Dawson Optic fr sight and a steel 1911 guide rod and won state esp…stock trig. . The gun practically shot by itself!! The one gun line i recommend to new shooters…. OfCourse I do Not poopoo on the G word What so ever.., been guys kicking my ass with G ‘s for a Long time!! H

Not familiar with your prj but in 9mm That wt prj and n320 has been posted here for literally 20 Years. Search ! Plenty of data ….. what’s posted is right on. H

For pistols on a progressive press I never Ever have paused to clean them…..and I mean on 45acp cases you can Hardly read the head stamp !!! Now for my 22-250 that hits your thumbnail at 200yds Yes I Do! And All the other Anal steps in case prep… IF you have a concern with primer seating depth then you should indeed clean. Get a drill!! H

I’ve Never used this die… I have 40’s by sig, hk, xd and custom 10mm’s by Brian Bilby…. And have reloaded for them for decades….I once had a 40 reload stop in my XD40Tac but ran fine in Everything else…. I screwed my Lee sizing die down to kiss the shell plate and All brands Ran on my loads. I Do use Lee’s Factory Crimp Die for several cals and it’s All Good! H

Here is my opinion….. i Was a hard core idpa/uspsa guy back then … mid 2000’s…. I won a State idpa cdp ex championship…. Off season I acquired a XD40Tacical. Put in range work on it and Quickly realized this gun shot itself with Little input. Automatic. Short story is I won the state esp ex the next year. Now I’m a rust 62yr old in 2021…. H

I’m not a serious shotgunner…. I’ve had my m1super90 for a Long time… paid $750 for it brand new from a shop….. I also adopted LM choke and have Not changed it in 20 Years!! (Maybe longer time flies) Matches, bunnies, Deer…. Steel….Man the gun hits Plenty hard On Center! H

This pretty much! Owned a 45USPc, still after umpteen years own a 40c and a 40 Competition …. Shot idpa and USPSA with them…. The middle finger By Far requires the Least grip change on mag drops…for me anyway . Prob/possibly less than a 1911 mag change…. Depends on hand size I guess. And I am a 1911 guy with a Farnum class under my belt. H

N320 .... been the Fav since mid 2000’s without Doubt... want a alternative?... Ramshot Competition It’s a Sleeper ....switched long ago in 45 and 40.... no regret Not good at all in 9mm. But in 45... clean and can use a little less! And today That is important!! H

Wow great post and pics! I also have a few Bilby guns.... some talked about in this forum Years ago.... I have one of his 10mm Pocket Rockets.... one of two he made and I believe one in 357sig.... I did not know he made one in 45..... I also have a Full House Delta he did.... Barsto, Bomar rear, Metaloy HC....and what I believe was his last full house 45 he built..based on delivery and his passing... I’ll get to some pics hopefully tomorrow Brian lived twentysome miles from me.... I’d hang out in his basement and also helped him with his State IDPA match he ran...he would come shoot the IPSC match I ran.. He got Ken Hackathorn to do a class and Brian asked to borrow back the Pocket Rocket.... when he returned it he had performed a Live Rnd Clearance mod to ejection port and reblued it..... tell ya what came out of Brian’s mouth was... well.... I experienced similar fps reduction in my 9mm loads running Ramshot Competition powder in my Colt6450. Without getting out of my Lazyboy recliner to look at specific data ....but I posted specific data results in the 9mm reloading area Years ago ..... fast powder in a longer barrel Scrubs fps......if you can not safely use more of your stated powder than switch to a slower powder for a longer burn. H

Ramshot or N320..... fmj to taste.. bout as good as it gets still today... no magic! H

Some of it is just momentum physics due to the longer case.... they Fly but ya a 23# main just like Heinie says, and a fitted FP stop will help most. I ran a 23# recoil sp on my Bilby Pocket Rocket and a 18.5# on my Delta due to extra slide wt H

I’ll confess to not reading this old thread... I have still today a usp40c and a usp40 competition and used to own a usp45c..... I ran them in idpa and ipsc.....for me it was natural to use my gun hand middle finger. No firing grip change required .....I run 1911’s, xd’s and sigs as well. But when I have a HK in my hand my brain switches to strong hand middle finger .... Try it!! H

I just watched a YouTube vid of Jason fitting a grip safety..... I had No idea He who created master pieces to cherish a lifetime Was so young and would share to a common man a simple task.... Ramshot Competition.... switched to it from 320 umpteen yrs ago for 40min and 45maj..... gggreat SD and ES numbers. Clean mild and much less $$. Now ill confess to not buying either in Umpteen yrs and still have both jugs today. Just saying RS Comp Works. Not in 9mm though... high pressure signs I have No idea where prices are today H

I’ve ran a Wolff 15# in my 40Tac since mid 2000’.......180gr true minor load.... won ESP EX in my state back then. Same spring Lots of rounds thru yesterday. Took it out Yesterday to see if it’s sacked out..... after laying it beside a new one I put the old one back in as I could Not see any noticeable diff H
