  1. Uplula was 2 booths down from RandR targets this year at the shot show and I talked to them, actually I begged them to start making a loader for the bastard AR-22 mags and they said that they're already on it. Really nice guys, I said I'd pay a lot for a fast, easy to use, well built loader... and I mean a lot. Soon I hope.

  2. I've shot open 3-gun for many years. In my opinion it's much faster to have a side dot for close up targets even with my 1-4 meopta. My current set-up is a Burris 1.5-6 with a Burkett side-mounted Docter. The Burris fast fire that I have on my shotgun is every bit the dot that the Docter is for a lot less money if you can even find Docters. Where the side dot really shines is when your running, zig-zagging down a course of fire with targets up close. Yesterday at the range I was shooting the side dot at 50 and 100 yards and was even thinking that the dot is faster at those ranges.

    For what it's worth,

  3. Dustin,

As far as holdovers for more distant targets. Don't forget that this scope comes with some of the highest quality most repeatable adjustments out there. For a stage or two it would be pretty simple to dial dope for any targets past 600.

    Good point.

  4. RMA_38sup,

I don't have any recent experience with the Meopta, so I can't give an opinion in regards to the brightness of the reticle, but the USO is on par or brighter than the Elcan when the entire reticle is lit, not the center dot function. In the USO the entire reticle will illuminate, not the center dot. If illumination is an issue or priority, then I would recommend going with the green illumination. It was definitely brighter during the daytime. I'm having mine built with the Green diode.

    X,

Yes, I load all of my 69gr. match loads. Considering the volume of high performance ammunition I use during a season, it's really cost prohibitive to purchase all that match ammo, and that's if you can even find it. Ammo been tough to get lately. If I were to go with factory stuff, I would probably go with Black Hill, Federal, or Nosler, in no particular order. Ideally, I would try one box of all of those listed for accuracy through my rifle. I would also chronograph some rounds to check my velocities. Then I would go with the most accurate load in my rifle, but considering the long backorders for precision ammo, I would probably go with one of the three previously mentioned companies based on which one I could get in quantity.

    Dustin,

I was hesitant to even run it out to 600, but in the end I decided it would be better. There are a couple of reasons why I stopped at 600. First, this reticle was designed as a close up reticle (0-200 yards)that could go long distance if needed. The vast majority of 3 gun rifle shots are under 200 yards. Even our distance shots rarely get over 400. I wanted a reticle that would allow me to still go fast on all the up close stuff, but had enough long range precision that I wouldn't struggle to hit the long range stuff. This is why the scope is only a 1-4x, but it has a true 1 power for speed up close. Having 4x on the high end is enough magnification to get hits out to 600, if needed. There are some new scope designs that have magnification ranges that go from 1-6 and 1-8, but considering we are really only concerned with hitting the steel target and not pinpoint precision and long distance, I think 4x is enough. The most I would want is 5x. Having a higher magnification doesn't make long range shots easier, it just brings the image closer to use, but it also magnifies our wobble zone. Another reason I stopped at 600 was to keep the reticle from getting too cluttered. I wanted something simple that was easy to use, but didn't clutter up the scope like the horus vision system. I'm not knocking the Horus Vision, it's a great system for long range precision, but it's a very busy and distracting on the up close stuff.

I do think the recital in almost perfect. The match I'm always gearing up for is the MGM Ironman. Shots out to 700 and rumored out to 900 this year. I went 5 for 5 at 700 last year with the IOR 1.5 to 8, 8 is to much power and the IOR is to heavy. At 300 4 power is plenty but at 54 on some days I need more power and I don't think my vision is going to ever get better just slowly worse, sucks getting old. On the flip side the true 1 power of my Meopta is great and the illumination is the envy of the industry. I'm just wondering if keeping the true 1 power and not changing the scope body is 5 or 5.5 possible? The horus vision is to busy and I don't like clutter but would a couple more hold over point down below be a show stopper?

  5. I'm always looking for a better 3-gun scope. This one looks good but why stop at 600 run the recital all the way down at least out to 1000. What would it hurt. Oh,and more power captain. I'm getting older and 4 power just isn't enough. Why not keep everything the same but give it as much power as it can handle, 5, 5.5, 6 ? Oh well, that's just my 2 cents.

  6. I think I've tried them all, I must have 20 or so grips in a box. For me, the left hand Ergo feels the best. They used to make a right, left and ambi. Last week I was going to get 3 more left hand ergos with some certificates I won at matches and was told that they are no longer making the left hand version. I think that's a mistake. At the shot show we were surprised at how many left handed shooters wanted to handle my left hand Saiga.

  7. The scope I have is IOR 1.5 -8x25 but the nearly useless power ring looks very similar to the pitbull. Chris at Acu-Arms in Missoula Mt. (406-728-4131) did this for me, but any gunsmith should be able to make this simple part and install it. I'm sure Chris would make the lever and ship it anywhere with instructions. I don't think this lever mounting system would work for every scope. I chose to go this route because the IOR power ring is so thick.

  8. Up here in Montana we cowboys take our dogs pretty serious. I had a female Border Collie / Blue Healer bad ass that went everywhere and I mean everywhere with me for 13 years. One of the hardest things I have ever done was to put her down. The first and only poem that I ever wrote was for her.

From south of Chinook came a dog named Sadie.

Some thought for sure come straight out of Hades.

Border Collie "Ninja" Blue Heeler she was.

Loyal to her master, whatever the cause.

From behind the Minnie House 3 black belts were ready to fight.

They all met their match, with the Ninja that night.

From some all she got was fear and reject.

For sure the one thing she got from all, was respect.

As I ride down the many trials of life,

The memory of her in my heart, it cuts like a knife.

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust,

She was to one, always to trust.

Tho they say dog is man's best friend,

Sadie I loved until the end.

Now my dear Sadie you're gone, you are free.

And so from behind every rock, every tree,

There she is always to watch over me.

It's been over 10 years and I could hardly rewrite this poem. My heart goes out to you.

  10. Hi to everyone, this is the very first post I have ever made. I don't now if everyone realizes, how many people surf this site. I have been one of them. I can't begin to tell you how much I've been help by this web site. I'm on this site at least five times a day… senses the very beginning. The information never stops. Thank you to everyone that has ever posted anything here. The first thing I tell any new shooter that I encounter is that they must look at this forum. It simply can’t ( B.E .) beat. I'm a little over whelmed by even posting, but I just talked to Robert Johnson about the Rocky Mountain 3 Gun and ....he took 2nd in open. That’s huge. Most everyone looking at this post realizes what that means. R.J. good job. Even our most “significant others” most times can’t realize what it takes, to simply pick your rifle or pistol or shotgun off the table a million times a night. It looks like R.J picked his up a lot. WOW!
