Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Having to get the club I started kicked out of IDPA took all the fun out of it for me.
  2. I know him. That guy is a total jerk; a real rules Martinet. If the rule book says something's not allowed, he just won't make any exceptions. In Chicargo, we would have called him a TJO.
  3. There have been some exciting biathlon races so far in the Olympics. Also some interesting lessons from the Olympians' performances and statements. Fourcade of France won Men’s Biathlon Pursuit after Bjoerndalen took the Gold in the Sprint in an unexpected win. One miss on the range kept Ole Einar Bjoerndalen from breaking the record for most Winter Olympic medals. Two misses cost him the Gold medal. We don't have to talk about the third miss. He does still have a 'shot' at breaking the record in the Relay and Mass Start events. http://exm.nr/1go9prM In another upset in Biathlon, the ninth place starter came from behind to win Women's Pursuit. Marksmanship, or lack thereof, hurt the female US biathletes badly. Susan Dunklee noted that she had a momentary lapse of concentration going into the fourth shoot and then missed three targets for a total of four. It would have been close but that may have cost her the Bronze. The medalists each missed only one target. http://exm.nr/1jv4pGT There are a number of lessons to be learned from the Olympians. They didn't get where they are by whistling Dixie. I think Biathlon is so interesting because it combines a very difficult endurance event with a demanding marksmanship task. They have to switch back and forth in an instant.
  4. We had an Area Coordinator Conference Call last week about the progress. Most of the Tiger Teams' work is finished. The final product has to collated and presented to the board. The target date in the next few months.
  5. I was shocked when I saw how long that took me. My back was bothering me a little but, nonetheless, I looked like a real lardass there. That's one reason I video myself. I believe we had to start with it in hand and I would never walk my dog with its leash in my teeth anyway. Thanks for the other comments. I will work on them.
  6. I cleared it with the SO ahead of time. It was not mandatory to do the reload one handed. He said it was OK for me to do it. Since he didn't DQ me he must have been satisfied with the procedure. I've done it several times before. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nr0qBBQ-_sE You've piqued my curiosity. I think I will tape my laser on, video it, and see if I actually sweep myself or if it was the camera's perspective.
  7. I like the Hogue Bantams in my avatar. They work great with Comp IIIs. But they're only for round butts.
  8. I shot the Florida State Championship with a S&W 669 and old Illinois State Police Don Hume holster. The only weird thing about it is that it has a magazine disconnector so I carried an inert magazine for the Unload and Show Clear.
  9. . Video is a great tool for seeing what you need to work on and I have a lot to do.
  10. I won the SSR Division at the 2010 Alabama State IDPA Championship by less than .50 second. In a 180 shot match, .05 second per split would have cost me over 5 seconds, thus the match.
  11. I ran a 2" Model 10 all last year, including the Nationals and didn't have a problem with it. I was using my standard IDPA load that makes PF out of a 4" gun. But I only use clean nickel brass and blue steel guns for matches.
  12. I'll be there shooting my snub on Friday and SO on Saturday.
  13. Last year, TGO was at the Rogers School and was talking about successful shooting. He said: "most people only have two speeds they shoot at; too fast and too slow." I try to keep that in mind now.
  14. I was a Chief Safety Officer at the IDPA Nationals years ago when we had a squad of mostly Latin American Nationals come through. The nature of the setup made it easier for the Safety Officers to paste some of the targets. When I started to paste one, a straphanger ran up and told me "it's my job" and proceeded to paste the targets on the stage. Turns out the Latins had brought their own paste and police crew along with them. If you don't want to paste and police, that's the way to do it.
