  1. When i went digging it did not appear to be a broken stud but honestly did not look that close at that part ...i believe it is the double action sear ....will dig in again and see for sure ....broke the trigger stud a few years ago so could be
  2. After 10 years and somewhere between 30k and 40k rounds I believe I have worn out my 610. It was a pawn shop purchase so don't know history before me but I know I have put it through the ringer. Was shooting local match and partway through stage 4 of 6 the hammer stopped coming back ...cylinder spins and locks up tight ....went to safe area and did not see anything obviously broken (NO PARTS FELL OUT) reassembled and still would not work ...two days later picked it up and it worked like nothing was wrong ..took it to range and ran about 80 rounds through it before could duplicate issue ....trip to my local smith is in its future and before suggestions are made ...already tried to talk to wife into a 8 shot but she's not buying it.
  3. I use bmt as well and for my 610 works fine...200 grain 40's
  4. found it hoppner and shcumann speed sec 5cw ....daa has them for autos
  5. I wish i could remember the name of the holster I started using for my 610 ..I know mine is a knock off ...got it on clearance years ago...it is a hanger style that only covers trigger guard ...i believe it is german design ....anyway the good thing about it is that the lock is a lever in back and down is locked adn up in unlocked so you can sweep it up as you draw if you have to do any running or standing right from start...my wife is using it now since it is reversable for leftys and doesnt seen to have any trbl with it.
  6. signed up to shoot friday and work saturday ...not certified but experienced in everything.
  7. bought some of sns's 220 to try in my 610 revolver but the 200 rn work so well have not worked up a load...the sluggishness of slide should not be issue in the wheelgun
  8. Havent switched to 8 shot myself but i do know of at least one guy in the area i shoot in still using 38 special brass...at least last time we shot revolvers (both of us wandering to bottom feeders a bit)
  9. a little off topic but for everyone using titegroup are you seeing any gas cutting of topstrap yet. years ago when i was first shooting revolver out of 3" k frame with 158 plated round nose i had to push charge to make minor (3" barrel was also slower than it should have been) and ended up doing a good bit of gas cutting with titegroup.
  10. If all goes per plan my wife will be there shooting with me but that cruise idea sounds good too.
  11. ok Here is how we played it ....i had a 6 shot minor gun(dont ask) and the other revolver shooter had a 8 shot minor gun i started in 5 he started with 7 ..i shot one target from another array and one from first array and reloaded and shot last six from first array and went on about my business...8 shot started with 7 and did a reload moving to first array to have a full gun....both our empty chambers were under the hammer..oh yeah he was mooncliped and my 6 shot minor gun did not use moonclips..work quite well for both of us although my plan was overly complicated came off ok.
  12. just realized on another stage in the match we have 6 shots on mini poppers from prone ...plan a dont miss..plan b glad i keep a spare moon on my side...we will see how comfortable laying on the northmountain holder will be
  13. Asking the match director was the plan just wanted to see what others had run into with similar start positions. Thanks for the insight
  14. We just got the stage descriptions for upcoming local match and one of the starts is a bit different and not sure how it will translate to revolver. start position is gun with magazine inserted and hammer down on empty chamber and holstered. Still running a six shooter and trying so sort out if that would mean starting with 5. The guy who puts those matches on always comes up with interesting stages and keeps thing fresh with new ideas and is still considerate of all divisions so I suspect he knows how revolvers will start this but was looking to see what others thought before asking him.
  15. i haven't shot but one club match by myself in revolver since it started and there was only once in prev 5 years where there were more than one of us. So at least here in central alabama seems to be having desired effect.
  16. OK i was one of those noobs back in the day ...I had two guns when in got into uspsa a pre war hi power and a canadian surplus 3" model 13 smith. When the extractor went out in the browning i shot the smith for a while. Got my revolver classification and most of my production classification with that little snubby using hks speedloaders. And had a lot of fun. Currently my wife has picked up revolvers and after going through the ones we had our 686 4" 6 shot is what fit her best so she is shooting 6 shot minor with comp 3's (left handed uphill both ways in a snow storm) {ok maybe a little bit exagerated but she is left handed doing strong hand reloads} and while she is new to revolvers not new to uspsa and appears to be having fun.
  17. will try talking the wife into it ... have done 3 majors already but if can swing it that will put two more on the list
  18. that could get expensive ...espicially if they make you replace all the "bent" plates and poppers
  19. I have a knock off of the smith and wesson 29 ..an astra 44 mag ..swings nice points well...it is a back up for something else so have only shot it in 2 club matches but used hks speed loaders (someone with more experience may know of something better but that is what was available to me). As far as loads go most 44 special loads should work. Just watch out for the cowboy ammo out there if you go commercial as most will not make powerfactor. Something else to think about if you want to go all out is getting it cut for moonclips and loading 44 russian brass.
  20. I have an old h&r in 38 s&w myself and the best loads i found were with light charges of bullseye behind a hollow base wadcutter. Mine did not have as nice a bore and any and all factory ammo keyholed past about 10 yards.
  21. some emails said he was dealer some said working through dealer ...gave a # that did not work to fax ffl to. gave a second # that was accross the country from where he said he was....emailed a ffl which the name of the gun store does not exist ..the address was for another gun store that does exist but when looked them up they had no idea of the person or gun. Just too much didn't line up.
  22. Well as it turns out my "line on a 627 pro" was a scam. Luckly I smelled a rat before any money changed hands. So back to waiting for the good deal (and questioning great deals) again. Lots of good info here though. Thanks all.
  23. Yeah the expense of tapping and plugging ports and then getting the gun cut for clips is the expense that moved me away from the taurus. My current revolver is a 5 inch 610. Not sure how will like a 4" gun but the price on the pro is what is pulling me that way. the only other local revolver shooter in my area is shooting a 327 (might be a r8 dont recall) havent asked about trying it but have shoot a trr8 that another guy used to shoot steel with but it had old school tube dot sight on top(pdp3 maybe). I have a line on a 627 pro may go with that and if dont like the 4" there is local up and coming smith who is big into revolvers and should be able to handle a barrel swap. The super in somewhat intrigueing but am just getting into open and dont have much experience with the super yet where as have been loading 38 special for 18 years soo.....
  24. I know the 929 is going to be the way to go. But lets say a deal pops up on another 8 shot gun. I know the taurus 608 is probably not going to last but a season or two. (already passed up a great deal on one due to the work it would take to make competitive). The smiths out there are (if i remeber correctly) the 627, the v comp, the pro , 327, r8, trr r8. I know where there is a r8 but he is proud of it and not likely to come down. The r8's and 327 are scandium so lighter with more kick but i dont know how they stand up to wear. Are there any features or faults with the others that should be avoided or sought out? Am kind of leaning towards a 627 pro. Opinions? (by the way no icore nearby only uspsa and steel would be legal with the gun)
