  1. I have had several open pistols with popple holes. 38SC and 9mm. It depends on what your goal is. If you are in the top 5% of shooters or plan to be. I would get hole, 38SC and have Bob tune it to your shooting style. If you are shooting as a hobby, plan to shoot a few major matches or just local. I would go with 9mm major, no holes. I like a more snappy load. 9mm major load. 7.4g Silhouette. 1.065 OAL. Montana gold 124 JHP or RN gets me 168PF to 170PF. Without popple holes the pistol shoot quieter and no blow back on the red dot. It is stainless. I did not coat until I have decided to retire in Oklahoma. More chance of rust there than my current Arizona.
  2. Shoots fantastic. Brazos custom has been building quality firearms for decades. I have had Custom built open pistols from other well know builders. I consider this build the top of the heap.
  3. I have some updates on the Brazos 9mm Major pistol. After 2 years of shooting it I had (Koted Arms Mesa Arizona) cerakote job. I picked this scheme since I will be moving to Oklahoma next year.
  4. Yep big time. Scopes, adjustable stocks and right side bolt releases allowed. see CMP rules for updated rules. There are some limits.
  5. http://www.1911store.com/Shortblock-BCG-Open-lightning-5--LDC-fram-Unique-slide-Bull-barrel-1-1.aspx they can answer your questions
  6. Springfield Micro Compact 45 ACP. I’ve carried it over 30 years. I shoot open. Best carry gun is just that. One you WILL carry.
  7. 6moa is what most run. Auto adjust may be an issue but probably not. Don’t get caught up in the gadget wormhole. Shoot what you have.
  8. *thumb rest [generic]* caused me more issues than they helped. While not helping my scores. I have several in my spare parts box and none on my Open Gun. Don’t do what I did getting caught up in the gear and gadget black hole. Work on your support hand position, wrist break over, Target transitions and movement. you will have better scores for it.

    80% frame?

A Short Block from 1911 store. You will not be disappointed. See my post about it in the Dealers forum under Brazos Custum.
  10. Dumb S$&t is for practice and Level one matches. Nationals and Area matches you go with what you have.
  11. If you can’t be with the one you love. Love the one your with. Applies to Shooting and many other things in life.
  12. It falls under unsportsmanlike like conduct and should be brought the the MD’s attention.
  13. Great information. You must shoot open. I did not see a reload in that lesson.
  14. If possible squad yourself with the top shooters at the match. Watch ask and learn. You will advance. unless you are a GM already.
  15. I would pick my battles. There are many ways to hide a target other than barrels. Barrels are bulky and can become a cut hazard after being shot over time. They are bulky to haul around and store. I have seen many lacerations from barrels over the years. Use something lighter and safer. hazardous disposal is probably a local issue.
  16. Stages like that IMHO are not a true test of tactics and shooting skills. Just another way to break a shooters concentration. It effects shooters B class and below way more than A and above. The way Shooters try and game these types of stages can cause an unsafe situation.
  17. The devil is in the details. It must specify any specific way to “sit in the chair”. Or it is left up to the Shooter what it means. Sitting on the edge or in a aggressive position could save time.
  18. Your Welcome and Thank You. I was pleasantly surprised myself.
  19. NoSteel, the firing pin stop and ejector only. Trigger, mag release, thumb safety, Aftec extractor and trigger group dropped in from my broken 2011 ( cracked slide and old worn frame) They work fine. No tweaking. I had to shorten, fit and adjust the new ejector to make it reliable. But Ihad to do that on my other 2011 when I switched from 38 super to 9mm. Firing pin stop I replaced with a new one as the old one was to short on top for blending. I have not blended the grip safety and top of the firing pin stop yet. I am going to shoot it for a while and decide what coating I will do. Then I will blend blast and enjoy. it looks fine now as all other areas are blended and blasted to a mat finish as you can see it the photos. I have not touched the slide or frame. It came blended and fit. Holes for dot mount come pre drilled as part of the package.
