  1. Hi guys and gals! If you were unaware, there is a new indoor shooting range in Ventura http://islandviewent.com/ . I just began talking with them about the possibility of conducting a monthly shooting match there based loosely on ICORE scoring rules and USPSA safety rules. I was a very small part of a similar match which was hosted by http://www.rangemasterofsantamaria.com/ and ran by Dave W and Chris S. The range appears to be somewhat interested in conducting such a match, but they are trying to feel out public interest. If you would have even the slightest interest of participating, or just think its a good idea, please contact Island View Enterprises and let them know you would like to see them host pistol matches. DISCLAIMER, I am in no way affiliated with this range, and my only motivation is to bring action pistol shooting to the city of Ventura and to promote the shooting sports. If anyone has any questions please feel free to ask.
  2. Hi guys and gals. I own a Stag 2T which I have been using for 3 gun, as well as a HD/SHTF rifle. The gun has been flawless for me (yes I know sample of one etc.). I have owned the gun for a little over 3 years and it has about 5,000 rounds through it, actually slightly more but this number is based on how many cases of Hornady training rounds I have purchased and shot through, The number does not include any other ammo I have shot through the rifle. The gun has run 100% with the only exception being the short time I tried a JP adjustable gas block, and all of those problems were directly related to the gas block. Since then I have replaced the JP with a low profile YH block. I am currently in the upgrading mood and would like opinions on what parts I should replace to bring the rifle up to par. I will also add, that when tax time comes around, I intend to pick up a DD or BCM as a dedicated SHTF/HD rifle and leave the Stag as my dedicated 3 gun rifle. I will also switch to a mid length gas system once the barrel is shot out. So far this is what I have replaced or added to my rifle: -JP Trigger group with anti walk pins -JP ambi Safety -JP LE-M Modular Hand guard rifle length. -Miculeck Compensator -YH low profile gas block -Badger Ordinance extended charging latch. -Arredando Mag Well -U-15 Stock, This is a California thing. Ugly but surprisingly functional. -Dueck Defense Offset sights. -Leupold Mark AR 1.5-4 on an ADM QD mount Everything else is stock. I am thinking about picking up a BCM complete BCG as well as the BCM charging handle. I am open to any other suggestions. I would appreciate any thought on my build as well as any suggestions. Thank you for taking the time to look at this. Juan
  3. I just ordered the new JP LE-M Hand guard. I have not found any reviews, but I love the fact that it is a modular tube type hand guard with a integrated full length top rail. I will try to post a review once I receive it. http://www.jprifles.com/1.1_feature.php
  4. You should check out the c-more sts mini dot. It is one of the very best mini dots for competition. Plenty bright even in direct sunlight and stands up to the rigors of competing.
  5. Hello Everyone, San Luis Obispo Action Pistol will be hosting 3 gun Matches every other month starting January 10th following our monthly USPSA match held on the 9th. There will be 2 3 gun stages, 1 pistol shotgun stage, 1 CQB rifle stage, 1 Shotgun stage, 1 rifle and shotgun stage, and 1 pistol stage. The match will have shots out to 300 yards. So come out and have a great time in beautiful Morro Bay California. If you have any questions please contact me Juan @ ddj8052@sbcglobal.net.
  6. Hey guys, I am trying to find a custom Kydex holster for an STI Open gun with a Allchin mount and c-more. I know someone was custom building these for some of the guys at the CA Multi Gun series. Anyone have any leads? This would be strictly for 3 gun, I have a CR Speed for everything else. Juan
  7. IMHO, that is by far the best gun for the money spent. +1 I am running a CZ75SA and I love it.
  8. I am building an open rifle for the upcoming 3 gun season and I am curious about where you are all zeroing your red dots. My primary optic will be a Leupold 3-9x40 and I will have a C-more STS as my second optic. I have a good idea of where I will zero the scope but I am unsure about what distance to use for the red dot. Please give me some suggestions. Thanks Juan
  9. OK, I am going to build the Benelli, the nice thing about that is that I will have the Remmy for shooting Tactical. Now, I understand that Benny is the man for building Benelli's, but what I am trying to figure out is what parts to use, not who to send it to. I do appreciate any help, I really do, but I am really just trying to figure out what equipment to buy for it. I will probably not send the gun to Benny because I prefer to use my local gun smith for all my work (Randy Lee @ Apex Tactical). I have No doubt that Benny Hill is the best Benelli guy, but I would prefer to use Randy whenever possible. He is a great gunsmith in his own right even if he does not specialize in Benelli's. So, can some one please help me with what I gear I should be looking into in order to make this Benelli go for Open division in 3 gun. I am most curious about trying to figure out how to mount the optic and what Barrel Length and mag extension I should get. I have done a ton of poking around, and while there is a ton of info on building a tactical class shotgun, I see very little info on building open guns. It seems that any time anyone asks all they get is "send it to Benny" for there answer. Again, I mean no disrespect, but I genuinely would like some help figuring out this open thing. Thanks again in advance, Juan
  10. Hey guys, I just finished shooting the CA 3 Gun Series for the first time and had an absolute blast. I met a lot of great people and am looking forward to next years series. This past year I shot a Remington 1100 Tac-4 and I was very happy with the gun. It was super reliable and felt great. I have added a easy loader, Mesa Tactical side saddle, and Nordic 4 round extension. I wanted to run a Benelli M2, but the gun did not show up until the week before the final match of the series. Needless to say, it is bone stock. So I would like to move into open class for next year as I have discovered that I hate loading the shotgun under the clock. So I need some help. First question is, should I stick with the 1100 which has proven itself reliable, or should I build the M2. Both guns have 22" barrels. If I go open, do I need to order a longer barrel for either gun? If so, is there a source for a new Benelli barrel? What size magazine extension are you guys running in open? I intend to mount a Millett Zoom Dot (I already have this) as the optic for the gun, does anyone know what scope mounts will work? Any mounting system for an Aimpoint will work if that helps. What speed loader system for the gun? How many speed loaders should I get? And last, what sources are you using for picking up these parts. Sorry for all the questions guys. I am just really confused with all the stuff out there I would really like to narrow it all down. Thanks, Juan
  11. Hey guys, I am going to the CA 3 gun series match in Fresno this weekend and am trying to figure out where to stay. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Juan
  12. Thanks for the info on the Benelli situation. This jives with what I was told. I guess I will be calling Hans and getting the Safety sent out. I am unfamiliar with the easy loader, but I will look into it as well. This gun actually comes with the (I think ) Badger Tactical charging handle. Is anyone experienced with this. It seems like it will be perfect for 3 gun. I will take pictures once I get the gun all set up and running. Another question, I have read that the O rings wear very quickly. How often should I replace them? I already ordered some replacements, but would like to know how often I will be switching them out. Thanks again, Juan
  13. Thanks guys. I do intend to shoot it and see how it goes. While I am aggravated at the wait, I am willing to wait for my FFL to get the gun in stock. He takes very good care of me so I am willing to be patient. Plus I get to play with another new gun while I wait lol. Thanks again. Anyone else have any sugestions for what the I should have done?
  14. So today I am picking up my new Rmington 1100 Tac-4 to tide me over until my M2 finally shows up (ordered in Febuary and I am told it is still a couple of months out). So what do I need to do to this thing to have it ready to go for 3 gun? I have already ordered the Mesa Tactical side saddle. Is it pretty much good to go or are there somethings I should be prepared for? Thanks for the help. Juan
  15. I have both CompTac and Blade Tech products and like both. I typical order from Blade Tech first because they have such a wide range of products. I have only once had an issue with Blade Tech and they were highly reponsive. Esetially they forgot the DO attachment and when I called they shipped out a new one no questions asked that very day. CompTac stuff is nice, but I almost always order Blade Tech first. All that being said, if you want a fast comfortable holster look into G-Code Holsters available at Gunners Alley. Shooting Steel Challenge in CDP (lots and lots of draws) I found that the G-Code was faster for me by quite a bit than both the Blade Tech or CompTac. I tried pretty much every hoster I could find and the G-code worked best. The only problem with G-code is that they do not have as many models to choose from. But if you have a Glock or a 1911 I would say try them first.
  16. Randy Lee @ www.apextactical.com Does all of my trigger work. He is fantastic.
  17. Thanks for the help guys. Scott-I am going to be doing strong hand reloads. I much prefer that to doing it week hand. Your suggestions are excatley what I was looking for. Trust me, I am familiar with going through gear trying to figure out what works. I have coxes of stuff that I have tried and did not work for one reason or another. So I am just trying to save myself some time and money by seeing what is working for others. Again thanks for the suggestions.
  18. So after spending a few hours on this forum and others, I have decided to get the Benelli M2 with the Nordic +5 Magazine tube extension. I am still somewhat confused on the other accessories to add to the gun. I know I want a side saddle of some type, but with the plethora of options I am confused as to what would be best. Also I would like to get a arm band type shell holder, but again there are numerous options and I would like to hear what you all are using. I already have a couple of Choate 12 gauge strippers, so I am trying to figure out non belt mounted gear for holding shot shells. Also any control interfaces that I should add? Such as larger safety, bolt release, followers etc. Thanks for any suggestions. By the way, I am already aware of sending it to Benny, I am just trying to figure out the other parts first. Juan
  19. Today I picked up a new to me Les Baer Thunder Ranch 1911. This gun is really nice. I cannot believe how tightly fitted it is. I have had some other really nice hand fitted custom 1911's but the Baer has them all beat. The gun is simply beautiful. I cannot wait to get it to the range and see how it runs. My only question is should I use my fancy new Hogue aluminum and wood combo grips, or should I go with the Hogue regular wood grips. I really do not like the slim grips that come with the gun although they are pretty nice. I am also including pics of my recently finished Steel Open gun. This gun was built my Randy Lee of Apex Taxctical. The work on this gun is incredible. The gun is incredibly accurate and although I have not had enough time to really break it in it seems like it will be perfect for shooting steel challenge. Also the CZ was worked over by Randy to be my limited Steel gun, and the other gun is my .22lr open steel gun as well. Hopefully you guys enjoy.
  20. I do not have pics as they are on my broken computer, but I rotate a bunch of different knives. My current carry knife is a Bradley Alias I . I also rotate on occasion: Benchmade 940 My favorite. Benchmade 960 Benchmade 930 Benchmade 710 Al Mar S.E.R.E. Al Mar mini S.E.R.E. Probably my second favorite. Blade Tech M.L.E.K. Lite Possibly the most bang for your buck knife on the market. I highly suggest this knife for the money. Blade Tech M.L.E.K. Pro Believe it or not I prefer the Lite version. And I always have a Swiss Army Super Tinker in my pocket regardless of which of the above I am carrying.
  21. The Mil-tac grips are Larry Davidson grips. Mil-tac worked out a deal with Larry to manufacture to his specs. Basically they have the ability to manufature a greater number of grips in more colors. So the Mil-Tac, Springfield, Wilson Combat etc are all Larry grips. He is the man. I have been using his grips since before they got so popular and they are still my favorite style of grips. All of my 1911's have them.
  22. Bill- Apparently you are unaware, but Randy Lee also does fantastic work with 1911's. If you go to his website www.apextactical.com you can see some info on it. So I guess I can excuse the eye rolling this time do to ignorance . J/k. Everyone else, Thanks for the compliments.
  23. Well, in honor of the fact that I will soon be getting my Randy Lee SS open steel gun, I thought I would finally post some pics of my CDP gun Randy built in time for last years steel challenge. The most unique feature of this gun is the "Anti" Checkering that Randy came up with for me. I really do not like checkering (although the new gun has it) so I asked Randy to do something different. This is what he came up with. The gun is incredibly reliable and extremly accurate. Please feel free to share some of your own Apex Tactical blasters. I need something to tide me over until the final stretch of my current project is over (the gun is getting hard chromed as we speak).
