  1. I am considering a shorter barrel for obstacles. At Blue Ridge, I noticed that rifles slung would get the long barrels hit during the COF.

Ive shot Blue Ridge four or five times with either an 18" or 20" gun and Ive never had any issues with them slung.

Maybe look into a new sling or how you sling it before getting a new rifle? Would be a much cheaper solution ;)

  2. The holster thing is what I am running into now. I want a Kydex holster with retention for a TS/CM but those dont exist. I will probably end up getting a Safariland 014 or some other race holster with a lock.

I used a Bladetech for my TS for years, going through a few Ironman, Blue Ridge and other matches without ever having any retention issues, so I wouldnt worry about that at all.

If Bladetech made a holster I could use for my Czechmates, I'd drop my Open race holster.

  3. Their lens warranty doesnt cover RX lenses and they do seem to scratch pretty easy. I've gone through several sets, which gets somewhat expensive when they're a couple hundred bucks+ each.

Not sure if other brands have more durable lenses, but once my current set is scratched up, I'll try something else.

  4. The registration process including the lottery process is complete. The lottery process was completed by the Practiscore Match Management program to ensure complete impartiality.

The registration announcement stated that "On Sunday October 26th, registration will close and the lottery process will take place."

    That is exactly what happened.

I am truly sorry for the very few that missed the opportunity to register by waiting until the last minute. For the two people that I know of that contacted me, I have placed them on the wait-list.

Im a big fan of the new system and I didnt even make it on to the wait list, so dont assume that people dont like it just because they didnt make it in ;)

Its vastly better then the "click within the first millisecond of registration opening" and it's also great that you have the group registration option.

Unfortunately "through Sunday" to me always meant up to and including all of Sunday. I guess the wording about the registration on Sunday should have raised a red flag, but it is what it is.

Have fun, I'm sure it will be a great match, hopefully there will be another one in 2016 :)

  5. The registration process will take place from Saturday October 18th thru Sunday October 26th 2014. On Sunday October 26th, registration will close and the lottery process will take place. Shortly thereafter, you will be notified whether you are in the match or on the wait-list.

Went to the registration link just now and it says closed though there are still almost 23h Sunday left. I expected "thru Sunday" to mean "up to and including Sunday"?

Oh well, guess I'm out again.

  6. Lots of DQ'd shooters. Weather related?

Not from what I saw. I witnessef 6 of them. 2 were from shooters abandoning their guns on a table instead of the dump buckets. One was from not fully abandoning their shotgun before grabbing their handgun from their holster.

One was a safety not being engaged in an abandoned shotgun. One was a 180 violation, not a trap.

One engaged a target after the marker stating where it had to be engaged from.

They did spot check shooters shotgun load outs before they started a stage. I know there was one shooter that got dq'd before he even got to fire a shot because he was shooting tag ops and ended up counting out 10 rounds in his shotgun.

There wasn't anything difficult and no real traps that I experienced. The stages were way better than the Kentucky match IMHO.

    --Bruce

Loading too many is a DQ and not a move to Open? That might explain the number of DQ's as I dont think Ive ever seen a match before where 15% of the shooters were sent home early.

Or were there just a lot of new shooters?

  7. With S&W releasing a ported MP9, will that be allowed to play in production optics as well?

    http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product4_750001_750051_834561_-1_757896_757896_757896_ProductDisplayErrorView_Y

You'd be pretty handicapped with that in Open, so it would probably fit better in Production Optics

No way. That new gun falls squarely into open division

Correct me if I'm wrong, but so does a gun with an optic on. This wasnt really if it would pass the proposed rules or not, since the rules are simply that, proposed, changing them would be easy...

The same people that have problems with bad eyes, might also be starting to get joint issues and what not, so allowing for porting would allow them to still compete without having to spend the money on a full race gun.

Also, one of the pretences of PO was that Optics are becoming so common that it would make sense to have it's own division. If the situation is getting to the same point with porting, why can't that be looked at?

Both optics and porting are currently Open features and categorically rejecting one as being "too Open" while the other one is ok seems a little odd.

  8. 3 Gun has no need for a ruling body. A majority of major outlaw 3 gun matches use a variation of similar rules (either SMM3G or Andy Horner rules). Made for TV matches hasn't been positive for 99.9% of 3 Gun shooters. I think we will find a push back to grass roots and way from the TV guys in the coming years. Just my prediction.

There have always been prize tables.. they ebb and flow based upon the state of the firearms industry and how overall sales numbers are looking. Prize tables come out of marketing budgets, when times are tough, that is the first budget to be cut.

Take a look at some of the latest numbers from the gun industry, like Colt and S&W, both announcing 20-25% drop in sales last quarter with earnings down 50-75%.

Unless sales pick up, expect to see acquisitions, mergers and restructuring within a not too distant future.

I have a feeling prize tables are going to look a little emptier next year, but I hope I'm wrong...

  9. From the outside, it seems like the scoring and stage selections heavily favor 3-gunners/action shooters.

I'm guessing even a national champion hi power or bullseye shooter is unlikely to get more than 50% of Daniel or Pat on a 3-Gun/USPSA stage, where as a decent 3-gunner is probably going to get quite a bit more than 50% on the static rifle and pistol stages.

Would be interesting to hear thoughts from you guys that were actually there and if this was discussed with any of the guys coming from other disciplines?

That is what I gleaned from the Mil Teams. The match did favor 3 gunners but one would be hard pressed to set up a multi discipline event where 3 gunner would not fair very well.

With proper support from the industry (hard to get in the first year) this match could have nearly exact stages or courses of fire from each discipline.

Even then 3 gunner will rise to the top.

Agreed. You could start playing with the scoring system and the relative scores, but trying to level the playing field is pretty much always a certain fail.

The idea is cool, so would be unfortunate if it turns into a 3-gun "only" event.

Doing something like bumping up the stage prizes over the big overall orize might help ensure participation of single event specialists as well.

  11. I can't think of 12 JT...who is on your list?

    Maybe I can't either.

    Jerry Miculek

    Max Michel

    Dave Sevigny

    Travis Tomasie

Doug Koening (not sure of he has a day job)

    Rob Latham

    Todd jarrett

    Mike Seeklander

    Taran Butler

Not sure if BJ Norris and Di Liedorff or Lena & Kay Miculek do anything outside shooting for a profession.

And even on that list, I would think for quite a few a decent chunk of their income is from training and/or selling stuff, not just from shooting competitions.

  12. So how much did Daniel win total and how much did anyone else win?

Hard to tell since the segment results havent been posted, but if Daniel won overall, a couple of stages and one or two segments, it should have been around 60k, give or take. Maybe 10-ish for second place, assuming a segment and stage win and somewhere between 5-10 for the next two-three guys.

Not counting whatever they got from the prize tables.

  13. ***I should add that the info above relates to this match's courses of fire having or not having option targets. I don't know if all the matches they're named after also encourage / discourage option targets.***

Blue Ridge has had optional targets the last couple of years, so probably not.

On the Midwest stage, will it be shot with people down range and require knocked over steel to actually fall off the stands to count for score? ;)

  14. I believe the reason for knowing your bullet path out to 100 is because of the blocker that is on one of the stages that we will be shooting thru. Every round that hits the blocker is a no shoot penalty. If the target is at 100 but the blocker is at 50 ...... Gotta know where to hold to go thru the hole and hit the target.

    Which stage is that?

Stage 8. Blocker looks closer to the plate rack than what I originally thought

Probably similar to what was used at the 3 gun nation match in Vegas a few years ago. It was a bit of a pain since _all_ hits on the shield counted as no-shoots. The edges of the hole got pretty ragged after a while so it was hard to tell if a round really hit the shield and you got dinged even if the plate was knocked over.

The easiest solution (IMHO) would be that you dont get dinged for a no shoot if the plate falls, as even with painting between shooters its going to be hard to tell the edge hits.

Or, maybe the contraption is all different :)

  15. If I had shot open, I definitely would go pistol anytime I can. Did I mention I hate shotgun? Wouldn't break my heart if this became 2 gun.

I shoot open and my experience is that the choice is harder in Open than in TO. Yes, I can shoot my Open pistol slightly faster than my Iron sights, but when I can start with 18+1 in my shotgun and have another 15 after a 2s reload, it's starting to look pretty appealing to hose those steel targets with birdshot..
