I haven't seen many level2 or above matches where you can wait until stage diagrams are posted, get close enough in time to see the weather report and be able to register and pay for the match if they still have openings. Many sell out very quickly and most of the rest also sell out way before you can get the stages and weather.

I still say if you can't show up to your FIRST match on time at least before the safety briefing and preferably earlier or to sometime before the match contact them for all the relevant info you can get, either skip the match and go to the next one or stay and observe as a non shooter and ask your questions then.
-
If he got there late, as soon as he could after working a shift, again, probably not the best time for your first match. Particularly if you haven't bothered to touch base with someone previously and got as much info as you could about procedures for the match.
-
I can't imagine showing up to my first match, late enough to miss all the information including the safety briefing. I'd wait until next match. Also contact whoever is listed as a club contact and ask questions.

Even though you want to focus on the target you don't want to use a prescription that makes the dot into a starburst.
-
I haven't actually shot a match with 2 hits anywhere on target scoring the max points. But i just don't like the concept of shooting like that. I knew that a lot of 3 gun scores that way

I had glasses set up with front sight focus in my dominant eye. Looking through a red dot I had the starburts problem. Now I have my shooting glasses set up with my regular distance prescription in both eyes, no more starburst problem.

How Well Calibrated Are USPSA Classifiers?
MHicks replied to CutePibble's topic in USPSA/IPSC Shooting
Clubs have a difficult enough time setting up classifiers with a handfull of targets and some walls as far as shooters getting the same view from the same position shooting the classifier at different clubs. No way you're going to be able to set up dupicate entire stages around the country. -
Yes. It's not 2 hits anywhere. 10, 5, 3. The only PCSL match within a few hours of me is just using the standard USPSA targets. No K zone 10 point with one hit. Without that it's just the divisions and power factor that's different.

In my area a club held a Production vs SS match for several years. Not sure when they started but it was pretty popular. Eventually they switched it up and now have Open vs PCC and other combos. I'm not sure if attendance dwindling was the reason they changed or what.

Any movement towards a decision in Limited Optics / Carry Optics?
MHicks replied to Khaot1c's topic in USPSA/IPSC Rules
Ok. Not as big of a difference, but enough to still justify two divisions. -

MHicks replied to Khaot1c's topic in USPSA/IPSC Rules
Apparently a big enough difference to show with both divisions available CO is the biggest of all divisions and LO is battling it out for 2nd, 3rd with Open and PCC. It may vary by region but that's before LO has even been made permanent. -
Doc says one or two years for me for surgery. Vision changed more this year but still correctable. Good luck to you.

In years past I'd heard that the Blazer was popular for steel. Has that changed or was it ever true?

The Future Of The Limited Optics Division in USPSA
MHicks replied to Eidoss's topic in USPSA/IPSC Shooting
If they were like SS, Revolver, Limited 10, and lately Limited and Production. Is the level of competition meaningless in Open and Limited now because CO is the biggest? -
The Future Of The Limited Optics Division in USPSA
MHicks replied to Eidoss's topic in USPSA/IPSC Shooting
It remains to be seen but CO and LO separately would probably be two of the largest divisions. I don't see it as better to have one division at 60%+ as opposed to maybe 35/25%. Just a guess at this point. -

Agree. No need to have one gigantic division. I think you'll have more unhappy shooters if you make CO 15 rounds or some other change just to differentiate the 2. -
Never been to nationals but I try to make several Level 2 or above matches each year. I haven't seen full staff reset but some matches do have staff reset of activators and moving targets. I do like that for consistency. You should be able to demonstrate to a squad how to reset them but sometimes you still have problems.

True. It might just change the balance of participation in CO vs LO. -

I just don't think current CO shooters would be happy if they restricted them to 15 rounds at this point in order to differentiate CO from LO. -
The matches available to a shooter can vary a lot depending on your location. Locally for me there are no outlaw matches. 3 USPSA and one IDPA. Of course the farther you're willing to drive changes whats available. But I see people in some areas where IDPA is very popular and not USPSA.

The Future Of The Limited Optics Division in USPSA
MHicks replied to Eidoss's topic in USPSA/IPSC Shooting
I see no reason to combine LO and CO into one gigantic division. Both are popular enough to justify keeping them seperate. As far as major/ minor in LO it's seems obvious at this point that a high percentage of shooters want to shoot 9mm minor at no disadvantage to shooting major. I enjoy shooting major in Limited or SS but the number of others who do is dwindling. -
The nearest (over 2 hours) club shooting PCSL doesn't use the PCSL target with the K zone. As an outsider looking at it that seems like the biggest factor differing PCSL from USPSA isn't being used

When did .357 SIG get approved for Limited Major?
MHicks replied to mreed911's topic in USPSA/IPSC Rules
Do you have easy inexpensive access to .357 brass or is it easy to make out of 40 brass.
