  1. Hi Walt, Did not mean to step on any toes. Wanted to take advantage of having the match already set up. Did not consult Thurmonts schedule. Sorry about that, Bob, I’m not worried about toes I just want to shoot ICORE. It sucks having to choose, ICORE will lose out to my home club’s match. Looking at the calendar it isn’t 90% but more like 75% they fall on the same day. I’m on out of town on business travel for the August match and if you have it the Sunday after the September USPSA match again that is the same day as the East Coast Regional Championship at Ontelaunee. October is clear! Walt
  2. Bob, Will the date be the norm following USPSA at Summit Point falling? AKA on the same day as MPSA USPSA at Thurmont 90% of the time? Walt
  3. You two have new guns and are practicing? Now I’m going to have to practice. Walt
  4. I have an M&P 9L. I want to replace the factory sights with a Dawson adjustable target rear and a fiber optic front sight. But which front sight? The adjustable rear sight says for use with a .265 tall front sight. They have 2 listed a .100x .265 or a .125x .265. Then to top it off they list .100x.285, .295 and .305 front sights. With the factory sights I’m shooting 2 inches low at 25yds. I have a 5 inch STI with a .90 Dawson FO front sight and a BoMar rear sight. I would like to match the sight picture as close as I can. Which front sight should I get? Thanks, Walt
  5. I have taken a deer with a .45 ACP. 230gr Gold Dot factory load. 35yds broad side double lung shot. At the shot she didn’t react I thought I missed then she ran 40yds and fell over dead. A .45 cal hole in and a .45 cal hole out. I had a similar thing happen with a .44 Mag with 240gr XTP handloads. I switched to .44 Mag 180gr XTPs and it opens up on deer .44 cal hole in and big hole out. It puts them down. Keep the ranges short and shot placement is the key. Good Luck, Walt
  6. Sounds like a good excuse for a .458 SOCOM. Case length 1.575 “Rifles with pistol cartridges that fire a bullet of .357-inch diameter or larger; have a minimum case length of 1.16 inches; and have a maximum case length of 1.625 inches are legal to use only during the deer firearms season. Some cartridges legal for deer hunting include the 357 Magnum, 38-40 Winchester, 41 Magnum, 41 Special, 44 Magnum, 44 Special, 44-40 Winchester, 45 Colt, 454 Casull, 475 Linebaugh, 480 Ruger, 50 Action Express, and 500 S&W.” http://www.dtechsuperstore.com/WSSM%20page.htm has a .358WSSM that he says equals or beats .385Win. Indian legal. I want a 458 SOCOM but don’t have a good excuse for one. Walt
  7. I went budget and used the Model 1 one piece mount for my Millet. If I ever step up and buy the Meopta I'll spend the cash for the LaRue. Until then I have just over $270 in mount, scope and shipping. The Model 1 mount has a offset and puts the scope at the right place for me. Walt
  8. Yep simple. Just cycle the primer plate paw manually until a primer is in position. Just make sure the primer seater isn't keeping it from rotating. Walt
  9. I have the Craftsman strap wrench. I tried a single wrap but it kept slipping. Doulbe wrapping the strap worked great. Walt
  10. Remington lists; 250226 V-11 1100 BBL 12/23 RC VT SF BL N/S (MOD CHOKE TUBE .709) 204.00 It is a Model 1100, 23 inch, Rem choked, vent rib, special field, blue, new style, (with mod choke tube) http://www.remington.com/pdfs/m1100parts.pdf Hasting makes a Hastings® Wadlock II 12-Gauge - 24" Barrel Since it is in the Bargain Cave and not on the Hastings website I think it’s discontinued. $265 http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/template...c&noImage=0 I sent my old 26” vent rib fixed Mod Choke barrel off to Ruppelt's Gunsmithing http://www.angelfire.com/sd/rgs1/ He cut the barrel, threaded it for Rem chokes, reinstalled the front sight and touched up the bluing where he cut looks and shoots great. All for $73.50, that included the return shipping. He also does thinwall choke tubes if your barrel is to thin for Rem Chokes. If I ever have the need to take it back to a bird gun again I got a 26” vent rib Rem choke barrel off ebay for $109 and I still have less into it than the other two options and have two barrels. Walt
  11. Thanks for your responces. DROP FREE! Back to the work bench. RRA Lower (after more reading they have tight wells), every thing else is DPMS, JP and Clark. I checked the mag catch before posting. New lower, new mags, I think my best bet now is to take it to the range and scrape the "NEW" off. Then hit the workbench. Thanks, Walt
  12. I just finished my first AR build. Should the magazines drop free from the mag well when the release is pushed? Or do I have more work to do? Thanks, Walt
