  1. Thanks. Such a beast would be wonderful. I love my G19 RTF2. It's glued to my hand--especially strong or weak handed shooting.
  2. Can I use G34 upper with an RTF2 frame in USPSA production? I love the grippiness of RTF2 and the trigger reach of gen 3. Is this combo legal?
  3. At 2.5 # now with addition of striker and plunger polish, trigger return spring tab moved forward, 3 coils cut from striker spring.
  4. My previous post should state "was a little crisper" not "was alightly crisper." Darn iPad. Evidentally the forum software will not allow multiple post edits?
  5. Update: 5.5 connector was alightly crisper, but 3# 4oz. Tried a Scherer 3.5, and added an overtravel stop--very nice.
  6. Completed the mod successfully today on a few month old gen 3 G17. Pin located with a tap from a center punch to mark the spot and then pushed out with a fly tying bodkin, leaving just a needle hole. Pin moved .135 up the trigger, in a similar position to Joe D's image. Pin hole relocated .135 up the trigger bar. I didn't adjust the trigger return portion of the trigger bar. Hole drilled in seconds at 500 rpms. Trigger bar hole plugged with a section of 2mm CF rod. This trigger bar was from spares I purchased 1-2 years ago. Trigger pull dropped from 3# 3oz (Glock 3.5/4.5 with chopped factory spring) to 2# 10 oz. I notd a slight rub mark from the tab on the trigger bar inside the slide. This was relieved by grinding off a thousandth and polishing. Also noted that the trigger bar, at the forward S curve has barely notched the inside of the frame at its most forward travel. Drilling the hole closer than .135 would have minimized this, but required more material removal at the FPS safety tab of the trigger bar. Trigger bar/striker overlap appear unchanged. No need to trim the trigger pad safety. I noted a slight decrease in pre-travel. Over-travel and reset feel similar. 150 uneventful rounds followed at the range. This mod is a nice improvement. I'll probably swap in the 5.5 pound connector for crisper break at a now reasonable pull weight. I've always found the 3.5/4.5 mushy--at any weight. Thanks Joe D!
  7. FYI Front sight height at center of dot, 0.120". Rear sight heights (at bottom of V): 0.165", 0.185", 0.205", 0.225". 0.185" is 9mm, etc. standard. I may order a new 0.165 rear for my G17, decreasing POI 2.77" at 25yds. from my G17.
  8. A 15W soldering iron and meticulous prep. Any imperfections on the grip (panel lines, poorly blended checkering) will be visible in the finished product. That G19's grip texture was very rough--too rough for IWB. The next grip will look and feel more like a golf ball--not a piece of coral.
  9. Thanks for the info. ESP it is then. Here's my old G19--my first stipple job. The G17 grip will look similar, except that I'll be able to integrate the bottom of backstrap smoothly with the rear of the magazine, and there won't be a bump at the bottom of the frontstrap.
  10. I believe in practicing with what I carry. I plan on chopping my G17 to accept G19 mags for a variety of reasons (smaller size for CCW, grip reduction, G17/G19 mag compatability, G17 sight radius, velocity and pointability). As someone who is not familiar with IDPA, could someone please tell me which divisions I could participate in? I'm interested in competing against myself first and foremost. How about USPSA? Before I get out the sanding blocks and soldering iron, I want to make sure that I'm not preventing myself from participating. Thanks!
  11. I find it distracting to use a "center hold" sight picture up close and then have to transition to the tip of the dot past 15 yds. It could be me, but I find if I try the center hold at 25 yds, I'm a few inches high. Gun in question is a G17 with XS Big Dot plain sights. Theoretically, wouldn't the difference in POI actually be a few tenths of an inch (the radius of the dot)? Does XS make different height front sights, or is the difference in the rear sights? Anyone know the height difference? Thanks.
  12. A "tech guy" at one of the most secretive firearm companies had no knowledge of the 4th generation frame? Did you not see the NEW mag for the NEW frame above? He likely has NO knowledge and/or he's not going to spill the beans on the biggest Glock news in 8 years.
  13. No pics available yet, though I have heard reports that it looks very much like a 3rd gen frame.
  14. Stay tuned. Image from another forum.
  15. On the distal phalynx (DP) of your index finger? --If so proximal third, middle, or distal third? In the joint (DIP) between the promximal phalynx (PP) and distal phalynx? I'm going to try moving from the distal third to the proximal third of my DP. Given my big, long fingers, I think that feels better to me, and creates slightly less FS movement (none) on dry firing.
  16. Correction: 10 shot string. I returned to the range last week, this time with a friend. I had regressed a bit, but still had moments when I watched the sight lift. One thing that I did notice--my subjective recoil control improved when I was shooting at a rapid pace for accuracy, rather than a very slow pace. The learning continues at lunch today.
  17. The plastic trigger safety pin on my trigger is working its way out. The gun was purchased new in May, and I've noticed it 2x in the last 24 hours. I've just pushed it back in with something firm. Has this happened to anyone else? I've done a lot of work to the trigger bar, otherwise I'd just replace it. Next time it starts to work its way out, I'll pull it all the way out, and put it back in with a spec of CA (super glue) on the tip. The horror--a Glock part failing.
  18. I've been shooting at the range for years, and for the first time, I actually watched the front sight lift. It was an epiphany for me. I watched that XS Big Dot bounce up with the recoil and come back down onto the target. Part of it must be that I'm able to control my blink reflex during recoil. I was able to burn through a 10 yard string, as rapidly and as accurately as I ever have--over and over. The improvement was dramatic. I sometimes will "pull" a round down, and with this technique, I'm sure that I can minimize that. Thanks for the advice.
  19. Are the unconventional stock Steyr triangle sights legal? Are they considered "notch and post"? Thanks.
  20. It may be easier to stick with the factory 10mm barrel and load light for production, and to major power level for Limited/L10. Would you expect much brass deformation from 10mm casings loaded to minor or major in the factory G20 barrel? I know that heavy, high powered loads will definitely deform, and it makes sense to use a tightly chambered aftermarket barrel to extend brass life.
  21. I've found that the larger frame Glocks fit my hand well, and the flexibility of the G20 appeals to me for competition, defense, and hunting. Production--with minor loaded 10mm Limited/L10--with a KKM barrel shooting .40 S&W GSSF Indoor--with a KKM barrel shooting .40S&W Local pin shoots--with a KKM barrel shooting hot 10mm Self defense--factory 10mm in the stock barrel Plinking--with an Advantage Arms .22 conversion/.40/10mm Hunting small game--with a KKM barrel shooting hot 10mm This could be my everything autopistol. Do my choices for each category make sense? Will I be able to recover my expensive brass when shooting production? I'm sure I could get many reloads on lightly loaded 10mm min loads, so that they will be cost effective over time. Thanks.
  22. Ameriglo's OEM height FS is .165--pretty close to Novak's .158. Apparently Glock uses a 6.9mm/.272 rear for the large frames, and a 6.5mm/.256 rear for the small frames. If the front sight remains the same, I guess you could just use a .272-.256 (.016) shorter FS if your rear sight height remains the same. So, if my .195 tall Novak rear matched well with a .190 front sight on my G17, if I put that .195 rear on a G20 then I should use a .174ish (-.016) FS as a starting point. I have an Ameriglo .165x.090 FS that should get me close to zero at 25yds (an inch high if .174 would be perfect).
  23. I'm setting up a G20. I have a nice Novak plain black rear to use, and I'm curious what size front sight I should use. When I had the rear on the G17 I used a Novak FS blank and just milled it down until I got a perfect POA/POI at 25yds, over the course of an afternoon. It would be nice to just go the "drop-in" route this time.
