Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Yes ... IDPA keeps fixing the rules until they have finally broken the sport. PCC has no place in IDPA and as a match director and stage designer, our club has no plans to include it. We frequently shoot from vehicles and we commonly require a start with the firearm in a holster under the dash or from the glove box. How about strong hand/weak hand shooting? Shooting from close retention? What kind of concealment do you need for a carbine? It's difficult enough designing stages that don't too severely impact revolver shooters, but with PCC every stage will have to be designed around it. I'm all for PCC as a side match or a two gun competition but there's just no way to mix and match pistols and carbines in a normal IDPA stage.
  2. STI's the real deal! Great products, great customer service and really nice folks.
  3. I have a World War 2 Remington Rand 1911, made in 1943, in great condition, but unfortunately somebody chose To chrome plate it which of course greatly degrades its value. Anybody know if it's feasible to remove chrome plating and restore it to its original condition? And if so how to do it; or better still, does someone do this professionally? The frame, slide, hammer and mainspring housing were all plated.
  4. thanks Freddie ... Kart Ez-Fit barrel and a 11# mainspring took care of it, new Metalform magazines also, runs great!
  5. I have a Colt 1911 chambered in 9x23 and would like to modify it to shoot 9x19 ammo. Barrel is not ramped. I think I can rebarrel it in 9x19 and with new magazines shoot have a successful conversion. Has anyone done this and are there some issues I don't foresee. thanks in advance.
  6. I would like to load some 7.62x39 rounds w/123 FMJ bullets and Win 748 powder. can anyone recommend a load? thanks, LL
  7. I have a .223 with a 1:7 twist barrel and want to load some 77 Grain Sierra moly coated HPBT bullets with W 748 powder. First, the Lee manual doesn't have a 77 grain bullet (they have a 75 grain) but does a Moly coated bullet classify as a FMJ? Secondly, I read somewhere that Win 748 was fairly close in characteristics to BLC2 powder. Does anyone know if that is true. Thirdly, if anyone could share a suggested load for the subject bullets with Win 748 (I have lots of it) I would most appreciate it. Thanks in advance! LL
  8. I just had my Bushmaster Carbine rebarreled with a White Oak Stainless barrel (never been fired) and want to be certain that I get the best accuracy with it. Is there a recommended process to breaking in such a barrel? I Would appreciate some advice here ... thanks in advance.
  9. Does usage of a Saiga shotgun with a 10 Round magazine (even though it's only loaded to 9 rounds) in a 3-Gun match automatically place you in open class? thanks, LL
  10. I've used VV N310 in 45 acp and 40 s&w successfully (used 4.0 grains w/230 FMJ and 4.3grains w/200 grain FMJ respectively, both made major) but have never used it in a minor 38 super load. I have some 125 grain FMJ bullets I would like to load in a minor load. Does anyone have a suggested starting weight? thanks in advance!
  11. Hi shooters ...thanks for the advice ... I tried the cobalt bit and that did not work for me ... I have ordered a carbide bit from McMaster.com and if that doesn't work then I'll take them to a machine shop ... I'll let you know how things work out ! LL
  12. I'm not certain I'm posting in the right place but here goes: I bought a Mec-Gar 38 super nickle plated magazine (no base pad) at a gun show and in attempting to drill holes for a base pad I have encountered the hardest metal I have ever seen. I have a jig for locating the holes and even trying to drill in a drill press I can't get a hole through the base pad. Any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks, LL
  13. Success! ... I went back and checked the hammer and sear fit and restoned them using the settings in Jack Wiegand's article http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/General/D...?f=bt002005.pdf I then followed his instructions on tuning the sear spring and the disconnector spring and I now have a crisp 3-1/2# trigger. Hammer no longer falls to half cock position. Absolutely no creep and the gun passes all of the safety checks. Thanks to all of you for your great advice! LL
  14. You're right ... when holding the trigger back the hammer doesn't fall. Trigger bounce might be the problem. I'll try to get a chance to work on the problem this weekend and I'll report back. Thanks for the great advice! I'll examine the geometry with the parts out of the gun and the Koenig hammer does indeed have a short hammer hook. Before I do anything to the hammer though I'll try tensioning the disconnector spring and new pins. LL
  15. I meant to mention that the gun has a Koening hammer also. I torqued the sear spring forward appreciably (changed trigger pull from about 3 lbs to 4 lbs after doing it) but I have not torqed the disconnecter spring forward. I'll try that next. thanks, LL
