  1. Asking the same question and I've seen the idea that "it depends on your shooting style" several places but no one really specifies what that means. What shooting style matches which comp? Does it really make much difference? Thanks!
  2. I run 4.0gr Titegroup with 115gr plated RN bullets and like that load for my GMR. While the powder is definitely dirtier than Sport Pistol, the comp doesn't get too bad with the plated bullets. I see folks running coated bullets in PCCs but think that's the primary reason their comps get dirty, not the powder used. My vote is to use up the TG you have with plated bullets.
  3. I've also run thousands of their 124 and 135gr RN and 125gr TC bullets. Actually running the 125 TC's in an Artemis now for LO and I swear they're more accurate than RN. I don't have much experience with other coated brands except BBI but I have no complaints with Summit. And they have great deals.
  4. +1 for the CZC plate system. You can get steel plates (rather than aluminum) and the plates are actually dovetailed into the cut so the screws only hold the optic to the plate, not the whole thing to the slide.
  5. I added brass palm swells with added thickness from Lok, which I love, and a tungsten guide rod from SSI at my buddy's recommendation to both my S2s. Even better balanced with the rods as the grips made the gun rear-heavy IMO. Kind of a see-saw thing but having both is perfection.
  6. I too leave the thick ones installed and have yet to break a slide stop despite tens of thousands of rounds between 3 guns. Coincidence is not causation but who knows... Run an 11# recoil spring and 13# main spring.
  7. Did you find a GLS model that’ll work? Trying not to use the light-specific holsters.
  8. Correct answer = 135gr. Juuust right. Ran 124s, shot great. Tried 135s, shoots slightly softer/less snappy, faster dot return, cycles quickly (have shot .12 splits no prob). Tried a friend’s 147 load and while definitely soft shooting, cycling *felt* slow to me. Really an issue? Dunno. For reference 13# main spring, 11# recoil spring, extended firing pin in both my S2s.
  9. Did the same this morning in SLC, UT (approx 4200' ASL, around 80 deg) with a Labradar. 135gr RN Summit City bullets, 1.115-.120 OAL. 3.5gr load 7 shots had 986 fps average, SD of 10.9. 3.6gr load 7 shots had 1012 fps average, SD of 13.0. The bullets weigh a touch light (134.5 or so) so looking at 132/3 PF for 3.5gr and 136 PF for 3.6gr. Just switched from 124s and Win231/HP38 (4.2gr load). Dot return is definitely slightly better with the 135s. Sport Pistol is a significantly cleaner powder, at least in the loads I'm running.
  10. Cracked my primer system operating rod like many others have. I'll be contacting Dillon for a replacement (will they send me more than one?) but does anyone know of a US-based source to purchase an extra or two? Lots of European shops have them but the shipping is more than the part itself. Thanks!
  11. Those of you that have cerakoted Lok brass grips... Did it affect the texture/aggressiveness of the grips at all? I really like the texture of the raw brass but am thinking of getting a cerakote job to bring the bling down just a bit. Thanks!
  12. This. One awesome, simple drill (IMO) is the Blake Drill (draw, 2 rds on 3 spaced targets). Easy to scale, measure improvement (or decline), and highly applicable. Gives you a draw time, shot splits, transition splits. Lots of useful data there. Can also throw in a reload and run it again in reverse, etc. Goal, among other things, is to have transition splits equal shot splits. https://www.benstoeger.com/live-fire-drill-blake-drill Even just two rounds on 2 or 3 spaced targets, move to a different position and reengage those same targets is one I do regularly. Play around with the spacing and distance to add or subtract difficulty.
  13. I removed the front sights on both my S2s. One is a stock slide, and only requires that the front sight pin be replaced because it holds the barrel bushing in place. Important. The other is an Accu that has the CZC 1911-style barrel bushing which doesn’t require any pin at all. I have no “filler” in the spot where the front sight was previously as it’s purely cosmetic at this point. I do appreciate not seeing the posts though, as they were clearly visible through my DPP optics (CZC plate mounted).
  14. For my S2s, I’m using Henning base pads on both CZ and MecGar 17 rd mags. Grams followers and springs. 22 rounds easy.
  15. My first two matches and associated training sessions shooting a dot (after shooting Prod for a year), I put tape over the glass on the dot to force target focus. If you have 100% target focus, the dot shows up just as it's supposed to. Magic. Hasn't been an issue since. I personally run 6moa DPPs and have had zero issues with holding zero, reliability, etc.
  16. So we've kinda settled for the time being on a mix of both: morning-of construction for the remainder of stages that aren't built to add to those built in advance by those that wanted to volunteer time and do something generally more involved. Totally agree about the "customer" issue. New folks especially think they are paying for the stage building as if it was a service, which is not necessarily their fault, just a matter of communication.
  17. A friend with both appreciates being able to feel primers seat (loading 9mm) on the 750 vs not feel anything on the 1100... I've been loading on a 550c and just bought a friend's 750 (he bought an 1100). Looking forward to most likely double production for the time spent, but I *rarely* had any issues on my 550.
  18. This. One Limited GM at my club switched to the 2011 platform due to the ability to customize and modify most aspects of his pistol. With the TSO, the options are more limited. Changing the grip panels, trigger work, front fiber is about it.
  19. No, three piece. It doesn't seem to matter functionally/when shooting though.
  20. Funny thing about JP bcgs though - they "fail" the gas ring test (at least my alum does). The bolt collapses into the carrier under its own weight very easily even when new. I know it's probably part of the dark magic dwarven forging process used at the JP factory but it's interesting to note.
  21. I have an aluminum carrier in my 18" SCI-20 and I have prob 500 rounds through the gun. It was manufactured in the last year or so. I've always run the carrier nearly dripping wet (with oil) as per recommendations I've read, seen, heard, etc. I take it out, wipe it down, and apply liberal amounts of oil to the bcg before a match or practice session. I've had zero "failures" with it though edges of the coating on the underside are starting to show wear/slightly flake. My buddy has one as well with a few thousand more rounds through his and he says the wear is normal and has had zero issues (his also a recent build). I don't whether it's the SCS, recoil eliminator brake, rifle length gas system, aluminum carrier, or combo of all of it, but the rifle basically doesn't move when I'm shooting. They say the aluminum carriers are good for 10k rounds but keeping em clean and highly lubricated is a key. I don't personally mind doing that before a match but maybe some might.
  22. Anyone out there have experience with the ADM Competition rifle? Believe it’s officially called the ADM4 and has a criterion barrel, adjustable gas block, AR gold trigger, etc. thanks!
  23. My thought was the building squads would only be comprised of club (local?) members, not those from outside. That way each club kinda handles their own building internally. Wouldn't involve traveling shooters. Again, just a thought.
  24. My thought was each building squad could have a lead (or two) that's experienced and any number of other members that will help under that person's direction. Who will and won't be able to help for a certain match could be handled within the group and replacements enlisted as needed. Helps mentor newer shooters so that one day they can build, etc., etc. Designers can just hand out the plans to the building teams unless someone's interested in building their own. Given the number of squads, folks would only be asked to build 3-4 times per year or less... My club is big on not having mandatory building participation or penalties but peer (group?) pressure can be a powerful motivator. And as I've recently found out, stage designing and building certainly makes you a better shooter.
