  1. Probably a round nose bullet but I say just have him ream it to where ya need it for YOUR bullet and shoot until you heart is content.
  2. Akai's throats are very shallow. Shay explained that other bullet profiles would plunk just fine but the design of the MG has a shoulder that extends quite a ways out which requires loading shorter or reaming the chamber. Could be the same with your bullet profile.
  3. My gun is a little different from yours. I have an Infinity Hybrid barrel in mine so a little different, less poppel holes.
  4. Nice. I am at the same charge of HS6 but with a Montana Gold 124 gr JHP. I am having Akai ream my chamber longer to accept 1.165 so that I can load the same length for all of my Open guns.
  5. What loads are you using? C.o.a.l.?
  6. I am glad you like your Akai. How long have you had your gun? How many rounds have you put through it? Open or limited gun?
  7. So now I am wondering what is up with my gun. I have a 19lb mainspring, brand new and a CK Arms extended firing pin I just put in and still have light strikes. I notice there is quite a bit of hammer slop when the slide is off the gun. I ordered an EGW extra long hammer strut and went to install it yesterday only to discover it is the same length as the strut I have in there. What gives?
  8. I am very surprised you are able to get them to run using a 15lb main spring. I am using a 19lb with an extended firing pin and still having issues. I have the gun apart today and have been playing around with the idea of leaving the mainspring cap pin out. This will maintain tension on my hammer throughout the full stroke.
  9. Okay so I screwed up. I loaded some BR4's in my open gun ammo and took it straight to a match without testing. Needless to say, my gun was at about a 10% ignition rate with like strikes on all unfired rounds. I noticed that my gun's hammer has alot of slop with the slide off and the hammer uncocked. I ordered an EGW hammer strut which they advertise as being longer to try and firm up my hammer's strike. So to my question; Have you guys ever had luck with getting your gun to run (100%) with BR4 primers or CCI 450's (small rifle magnum)? If you did, were you able to have a gun with a great trigger or did it make for a heavy trigger pull weight? Let me know your experiences. And just for a little more insight into my current set up on my gun, it currently has a brand new 19lb mainspring and an extended firing pin. It has no trouble with regular small rifle primers.
  10. I am a previous customer and liked the gun. Thanks for your insight. Smh
  11. Okay so what is the scoop on Akai's open guns? I started a thread recently asking for everybody's suggestions on who they would have build an open gun in 2022. I saw several recommendations but I don't recall seeing anybody say Akai? I was leaning towards having an Infinity built but decided to call Akai and they just so happened to have a gun fitting exactly what I was after that they were getting ready to put on their website to sell, ready to go. I am going to go that route instead of waiting the 8-12 months for the Infinity or waiting on one of the other builders to free up some time to take on new work. Let me know your guys' opinions on Akai guns, especially open guns. If you like them, please let me know why you love Akais. If you would never own another Akai, I would like to know your experience as well. Don't worry about upsetting me because I chose the Akai. I want to hear genuine experiences. Thanks for your input.
  12. Yeah you guys had me sold on Venom Customs but unfortunately the owner is not taking new orders at this time. It is a good problem for Venom and shows that he is doing great work but it doesn't help me wanting a new open gun. I am probably just gonna grab another Infinity, could be worse.
  13. I just spoke with him a minute ago. He is not currently taking on work and said the same thing, 10-12 months out. I will have to check back in the future.
  14. I appreciate all the information. I have heard quite a bit about Gans Guns as well so I bet you are on the right track there as well. Your idea of sending my CK in for work is not a bad idea but then I would be without an open gun in the meantime so I will probably have to hold off on something like that until I have another open gun, a vicious circle I know. In the end, I will be no less or more competitive with a fancier looking gun so I will just have to curb my desire to be cool (and spend money) and just shoot what I currently have or wait until I have a gun built. It is what it is. That's just part of the fun of competitive shooting.
  15. It is what it is. People with the skills to make these guns are in high demand, as they should be. I will just have to fill that "new gun" hole with factory guns while I endure the wait.
  16. You're very welcome. How are lead times looking on your guns these days?
  17. Theie guns look fantastic!
  18. Haha if money was no object, this would be the almost certain path.
  19. I currently have a CK as my only open gun now. I really like the gun but my only gripe is it is not as pretty as I like my guns to be. As far as function goes, after some tuning, (I bought the gun used) it now runs great. I believe I want my next gun to be more of a looker.
  20. I keep seeing people speak highly of Venom Customs guns. I have not personally seen one at a match or at least recognized one for a Venom Custom gun. I have to admit, I am a bit of vanity snob when it comes to guns. I weigh looks and function fairly closely. With that being said I have really liked the pictures I have seen of the Venom builds.
  21. Okay, so I am looking at getting another open gun. I know this is an overdone topic but after scrolling to page 22 and reading all relevant articles I have decided to ask the age old question: If you were in the market for an open gun today, who would you be looking at? I will just say that I do not have the time, patience, or equipment to build my own so that is off the table. I currently own Infinity and Akai Limited guns as well as some others. I am making the switch to Open at least for the season. I really like Infinity guns, just trying to decide if I want to spend Infinity money on an open gun. What are your opinions out there?
  22. You can always pop it out and measure it. Compare your measurement to extended firing pins on the market. That should give you your answer.
  23. The extended firing pin ended up solving my problem. As far as your question about the intermittent ignition, primers not being seated could definitely be the culprit. I wonder if an extended firing pin will ignite the rounds with improper primer seating depth as well? Maybe somebody with more experience with extended firing pins will chime in.
