  1. Apologies if this doesn't count as "gear" but I figured it's something you can buy. I know a lot of shooters use pro grip but I think it's expensive for what you get and I don't order from websites that have it very often. Very shortly I'm going to be playing around with chalk balls and powdered chalk to see what I like the most. Curious what others here like to use.
  2. What I’ve done in the past is just jb weld/silicon carbide the original grips. Not a big deal with guns that have removable/replaceable grips. I might try that first as a free alternative, I’ve had pretty good success with it before.
  3. Yep, it’s my strong hand (right hand) that’s losing small bits of skin at the joints in my fingers where they dig into front strap. Now that I’ve changed my spring rate I’ll play with grip a little more and see what’s actually necessary. I ordered more liquid chalk today to aid in dry hands and better grip. Currently I’m using the stock aluminum grips that came with the TSO as I haven’t felt the need to swap them, although I do kinda of want to try some palm swell grips because I have big hands.
  4. Been a minute since i've posted. Sunburn thankfully all healed, that was a nasty couple days. Back to practicing, have been focusing on grip a lot lately. I swapped the recoil spring for a lighter one as i was noticing the gun diving as it went back into battery. Not sure how "hard" everyone else is gripping the gun, but for me to get an all alpha bill drill I'm gripping it so tightly I'm starting to lose skin on my fingers. I'll keep working on this in dry fire and probably buy a grip trainer, as of right now I'm not sure I can maintain that level of grip through an entire stage without fatiguing. Now that I can shoot outdoors I'll be buying a shot timer soon and start working on drills with reloads and transitions. If the grip I've found is repeatable, it almost feels like a cheat code.
  5. Finally got out to a “big” match that wasn’t local to me this past weekend. I did better than I expected, and at the same time not as well as I would’ve liked. https://practiscore.com/results/new/192260 ended up placing 58/80 with just below 50%. This would put me solidly in C class, but I’m not currently a USPSA member until I decide to go to matches with more classifiers. I’m at a sort of a cross roads currently, do I keep pushing faster and just try to adapt and shoot better at a higher cadence, or do I slow it down and hopefully build my way up to faster shooting? The first half of this match I sent 3 mikes because I was shooting too fast, the second half I forced myself to slow down and I got my hits, but time suffered. I also had to make suboptimal stage plans to deal with swingers I wasn’t comfortable shooting very fast. finally getting a membership to the outdoor range here, and I’m very much so looking forward to being able to practice more. I had a lot of deltas from shooting too fast and not confirming sight picture, I’d like to work on my grip and doubles more to see if I can tighten that into the C zone at least while staying at the same speed. Also need to work on figuring out what’s an acceptable sight picture with my TSO. I feel like I had that figured out with my 1911, but just haven’t had enough practice with my TSO to be able to assess that at speed yet. I also forgot to include, I found this longer match much more bearable than I have in the past. I made sure to stay well hydrated, had good shoes, and a small snack and found myself not nearly as grumpy after 4 hours as I have in the past. I did get incredibly sunburnt but that’s healing now and I have since learned my lesson about overcast days.
  6. Alright! I wrapped up one HELL of a semester in December. Nearly done with school though, and I'm finally able to start shooting more. Had my first match in months at a local club, ended up 4/8. Not many shooters so stats aren't great, but I know a big problem for me was addressing a proper sight picture. I had 3 mikes across a 5 stage match, and that alone kept me from 3rd place. It seems I need to slow down my exits/entries, all my mikes were on targets i was rushing to hit as i would come into or leave a position. However, I wasn't able to call those hits, so i need to spend more time behind the trigger determining how fast I can push it and what exactly "acceptable" is for these sights. Going to clean my gear pretty well tomorrow, load up some ammo, and do some dry fire in prep for the river city match this coming sunday. First match back i shot was penalty free, however I'm not as happy with my score as I'd like to be. I'm going to try to slow it down a bit at river city and shoot it penalty free, as well as no mikes.
  7. Sadly it seems weather wasn't in our favor. I'm assuming the match got canceled due to the rain, but even if it didn't I'm not sure I would've wanted to shoot it on a wet range.
  8. haha sometimes I forget that some folks here actually use reddit and remember me. Sadly texas got hit with the one cold front of the year and it rained all weekend, so both matches I was looking at going to were a no go.
  9. That is absolutely the plan. Other folks have mentioned it here, but with the amount of pain I’ve experienced I think it’d be smart to talk to a doc/pt/sport specialist before I do any permanent damage.
  10. been a while so a bit of an update - managed to get my holster set up comfortably and have been practicing draws/reloads in dry fire. Homework and poor weather has kept me from shooting a match in quite a while, however on the 20th I'm going to try to go shoot the Alpha Mike match in San Antonio. Gym progress has been going decently, I wanted to run a mile by halloween and I definitely am in enough physical condition that I could have done so, however it would've hurt my shins more than I care to admit. I've been doing a lot more biking and am going to try swimming soon. I haven't seen the progress I wanted in the upper body that I would have liked, so i've swapped to doing more muscle isolation exercises there and think progress is slowly being made. I have a few more tweaks to make to my shooting rig, but I'm incredibly excited to be able to go shoot my first real match in months. Time to order some more bullets and get a fresh batch of reloads prepped for it.
  11. Exactly what sarge said. If factory brass can stay shiny for months I don’t see why mine shouldn’t. And I live with family members and don’t want to expose them to lead/dust if it can be helped, so I prefer wet tumbling.
  12. I’ve only been reloading for a couple months, and have always used my frankford arsenal wet tumbler with stainless steel pins. As of lately it’s been about 1/3 full of brass, fill with water and a squirt of dawn/pinch of lemi shine. The cases all come out shootable and haven’t given me any problems, but after a day or two the brass starts to dull a lot more than I’d expect. I’ve also noticed it seems like the primer pockets are hit or miss on whether the pins cleaned them or not. Harbor freight has a cheap 2.5L ultrasonic cleaner for ~$75, would this be worth looking into? I’d like to get my brass to factory level of shiny and stay there, along with nice clean primer pockets. I currently tumble for about an hour to an hour and a half, not sure if much more time would make any significant difference there. I don’t want to dry tumble because of dust getting in the air, so wet tumbling for now.
  13. I was just looking for plated to keep the lead exposure/shavings down. Sub 10 cents each is around where my 9mm from blue bullets was, so if it’s the same price I don’t see a reason to not swap. Still trying different companies, not sure where I’ll end up. Probably going to keep shooting coated lead for my TSO though simply because of the price difference between different bullets.
  14. Exactly what I just did. $94 flat for 1000 plated 9mm is hard to beat.
  15. I’ll have to post some better pics of the full setup. I did end up getting some small 1/2” spacers to push the gun out a bit further but I’m worried it might be too much. Might grab some smaller 1/4” or 3/8” spacers if there are any whenever I grab some longer screws. Appreciate the help you gave me!
  16. Wish I had seen that, would’ve just gotten the holster body from the start. The aluminum is incredibly thin, until they beef up the design or make it from steel I just don’t think it’d adequate.
  17. Actually extremely helpful, thank you! I’ve been leading with my heel hitting first and then sort of just rolling through to the balls of my feet. This never really caused an issue when I was younger but I was also much healthier and weighed a good 100 pounds less. Im gonna have to look into more “proper” running form and see what feels best next time I hit the gym. Legs are feeling fine for now, we’ll see if that level of pain returns this week.
  18. Alright so I bought a ghost “the one s” holster for my TSO in .40. The locking/unlocking/drawing takes some getting used to but it’s very nice after a couple weeks of dry fire. I will say, the hanger that comes with it is pretty garbage in my opinion. Other reviews said it was aluminum and sturdy, I disagree. It is aluminum but mine bent pretty severely just putting it onto my belt. I tightened it enough that the holster hanger didn’t slide around the belt, and this was enough to warp the hanger. Today I modified my BOSS hanger to fit the ghost system and am much happier with it. If I had to do it over again, I’d recommend purchasing just the holster body and getting a hanger somewhere else. To modify the boss to fit I just used a dremel cutter to route out one of the semi circle areas and drilled a hole slightly bigger to accept M6 screws that go into the holster body. I’ll need to get slightly longer screws but that’s just a short stop at lowes or Home Depot. https://imgur.com/a/4AYRIPE
  19. Seems like the link might not have posted? I’d love to check out the video though! And yes I’ve made a good couple friends that are into the M range, I plan on talking to them more and going back and forth with them. But I don’t expect these folks to make time for me all the time when they have their own life to deal with. So once I identify what I need to work on, I’ll be able to do so by myself.
  20. Lol, currently a college student and coaches/trainers/classes aren’t exactly in the budget. As of right now, it’s been a lot of dry fire and a bit of live fire to confirm what I’m doing is either right/wrong subjectively. Very soon in the next week or two I’m going to be paying for a membership at a range where I can have a private bay and do more testing/practice by myself. Getting another shot timer is also on the very short list of things to get to help me keep better track of shooting performance.
  21. Any thoughts on Everglades vs precision delta?
  22. Interesting to hear. After shipping and tax though the price is pretty meh. Looks like precision delta might be the way to go.
  23. I'm looking for a cheap plated bullet and xtreme bullets scratch that itch at around 9cpr. They seem to have mixed reviews on an old school website, so I'm wondering if anyone here has anything to say about them? Not sure if I want to go with 124 or 147 but I'm looking at ordering 1500 projectiles this coming payday.
  24. I said it in the previous reply but to address is again, I only maxed on squad so I have a baseline for myself and can judge improvement in another month or two. I may swap up my routine and do less running/walking and try biking or swimming for a day or two and see how that feels. The distance isn't what bothers me but more so the pace that I'm running at. I can walk a mile in 20 minutes with no pain at all, but my legs start to hurt like hell after I up the pace. I think part of this might be due to the fact that I can't get a full extension of my legs at a comfortable running pace on a treadmill. There's an indoor track I think I'm gonna try and see if that same pain still happens. Going forward I'm definitely going to incorporate more calisthenics/body weight exercises as I find my upper body strength lacking, and it's harder to hurt yourself going this route. Appreciate all the insight!
  25. Appreciate you looking out! A bit of background here might help. I started playing football and running track back when I was in middle school and the coaches had us in the weight room from 7th grade onwards. I took a break during late highschool and college to focus on school, and am finally getting back into the swing of things. I'd say I have solid form and I'm not exactly pushing my max's everyday. I just did them last week to figure out where I was at for a sort of baseline so I can better gauge improvement in the future. As regards to bench, 135 is where I can rep, not my max. It's where I end my set and I might struggle a bit, but it's doable for me. I use the gym at my school so on the weekends I like to stretch and do some yoga, but I think I'll start incorporating some calisthenics into that routine going forward.
