  1. Just had this happen to me this weekend for the first time on my Hornady LNL. May not have caught it if not for the powder check. Felt no different in the pull/weight, and visually looked almost the same as a fully working unit, but sent shells through with no powder. Crazy...
  2. I think it would be pretty easy to drill the extra hole for the extractor. When I sent my S2 OR to Cajun to get it worked on, I asked them to drill me an extractor hole and they did.
  3. I contacted Hornady about this. They sent me a set of metal shims. Worked like a charm!
  4. I'd like to try to take a class or 2 in the midwest in the next couple months. Stoeger has one in Michigan coming up but it is sold out. Any other classes out there I should be looking at this spring/summer? Ohio/Indiana/Michigan/Penn/Kentucky/WVA. Doesn't have to be with a current world class shooter, having a great teacher is more important to me. I'm mostly interested in developing good fundamentals. Second year shooting, wanting to move from C+ to B+ this year.
  5. Finished 2nd place, Centerfire irons 2nd place Centerfire optics 1sr plade Rimfire pistol optics I think my ammo performed pretty well and I was extremely close to first place. If I do it again, I will revisit the load development.
  6. I've only got maybe 1,500 rounds though mine so far, but it has had no feed issues on anything I've put through it with upgraded magazines. (Not tuned) I did have a magazine spring break last week in the middle of a match which was really strange. It was one of the original Volquartsen magazines. I got the Tandemkross green springs and red extra round followers in my Ruger mags and just bought a couple more to put in the mags the Volquartsen shipped with. Blazer .22lr (Crazy smokey) CCI mini mag target Remington THunderbolt (I like to use this to practice, as I have a bunch I got for cheap.) CCI standard velocity LRN Eley Yellow box and Black box. Most accurate has been the Eley black box, followed by yellow box, followed by CCI minimag Target. Speaking of ammo, look what I found at a small outfitter on my way to a match last thursday!
  7. I use this same method with the hundo. In addition, I use a bitf pressure when checking the primer seating. This will make any non-passing round actually get stuck in the gauge. Then when I go to flip, the ones that are still in the gauge get relegated to practice. Using MTM cases btw which also work with the flip method. I recommend this little handy accessory in addition: https://rangepanda.com/collections/misc-products/products/dmd-hundo-risers?variant=31072202391651 Depending on your OAL, this will help catch more case gauge failures.
  8. I was looking at that Frankford. That would work. I have several other concerns with that one. They are looking to the end of the year to release, which means may not be readily available for 18 months from now. First iteration of a product is scary, especially in the reloading world, at least for me. And it looks like they accomplish it by using the bullet feeder station to also seat the bullet. No telling yet what system they are using for seating and how well it will work on a variety of brass/bullet combinations. I will take a look at the Mark 7. I'm just not there yet. Been reloading less than a year. Probably 12,000 rounds but still consider myself pretty green. I do look into each shell, but use the DAA magnetic powder checker as a double check. I have found when I'm keeping an eye on 4 other things on the press, that i have forgotten to look. It's nice to have the backup. On the other hand, maybe if I was running a press where I didn't have to keep my eye on several things that would keep me better focused. (3d printed case feeder doesn't feed consistently lately when tubes are filled to the top, and 3% of rounds come down upside down, I have to watch the MMBF to make sure to rotate or I end up dropping a shell down the tube with powder and no bullet, etc.). Some of that wouldn't be an issue if I had a more advanced and reliable setup.
  9. Loading 9mm, if I want to have 4 stations after the powder drop, what are my options for a press? After powder drop, I want to have: 1.Powder check 2.Bullet feeder 3.Seat 4.Crimp Currently using a LNL and having to combine the seating and crimp with the Hornady die. Not a big fan of doing both on at the same time. Doesn't look to me like even the Dillon 1050 would allow this setup. Thanks!
  10. Sorry, I was trying to get that across. The priming compound is intact.
  11. I have a new partial theory. The case that was exploded in the magazine was not fired. It was blown open by the other round firing. A couple things point to this: 1.The un-exploded gun powder found all over. 2.The inside of the exploded case was clean and it does not appear to have a primer detonation. 3.The round that was stuck in half way to the chamber. I believe the energy of the explosion sent the original round out of the barrel and this round that was sticking out was the one from the exploded round in the magazine. It had enough energy that it hit the feed ramp and lodged itself halfway into the chamber. I'm guessing I had an out of battery detonation that set the whole series off. Only my second time using that ammo. My gun might not like feeding it. I did have a few other feed issues during the match. My standard is CCI Mini-mag target and HP.
  12. Good question!!! It does have a mark on the rim but it looks a little light to be from the firing pin. HOWEVER, the brass inside is clean, showing no signs of burnt powder which seems to line up with what you are saying Ming. A bit more information. This was around shot 30 in the match. Prior to this, twice I had rounds that failed to feed and the brass was dented. Also, temperature was around 20F, but I was keeping the rounds and the magazines in my pocket with a handwarmer prior to shooting. Also, my rifle was cleaned before this shoot. Will the rifle fire that far out of battery? I might test that. I would think with the bullet halfway stuck in the barrel that it would have had to have been out of battery as much as an inch.

    Primers

2 things I try to remember to do when I'm looking for help on these forums. 1.I will look at the first two pages of the relevant forums (in this case The Classifieds, General Reloading and 9mm Reloading) and see if there are any real recent posts that might be helpful. 2.I will use the search feature at the top to search.

There are plenty of primers available. https://www.gunbroker.com/All/search?Keywords=cci 500 primers
  15. Shot my first PRS .22 match yesterday with my squirrel gun. Ruger wooden 10/22 stock except it has a CST Tech Grand Master match trigger and bolt. Last round in the string, I fired and it was much louder. Checked the chamber and the bullet was sticking half way sticking out of the barrel. Could see a piece of brass near the breach and some balls which I assume was unexploded ball powder which was unexploded for some reason all around the chamber and on the bolt face. Couldn't find the case until I ejected the mag and saw that it was in the magazine, ruptured. Was able to knock the round out of the barrel with a cleaning rod and I proceeded to shoot the match. Blew out the chamber and had no further issues. Ammo was Black Box Match Eley. What caused this and do I need to be concerned? Anything I need to check? Thanks!
  16. How many rounds are ideal? I like this advice! Will definitely make the change with the next batch I test. The range situation is also not ideal, so I can feel rushed sometimes. Any advice on what to do now that i have some data? Should I go back and get chrono data from the 3 I'm missing? Should I shoot another round with more than 5 rounds? Should I eliminate some of the loads based on the above data? I'm pretty good on supplies so I'm not too concerned about burning ammo right now. I'm shooting way more practicing for Practical than for this project.
  17. Ok, got some load and target data to look at. My local range lets me chrono if no one else is there. Someone showed up to use the range when I was in the middle so I don’t have chrono data for 3 loads. Where I noted Freestyle groups below, that would be standing, 2 handed, slow fire. Not sure if there is a more proper name for this style shooting. I measured from the center of the 2 farthest apart holes. 5 shots each, bench and freestyle (total 10 of each load.). I guessed above that I would be 4" at 15 yds. I shot quite a bit better than that! Where do I go now that I have this data? Gun: Shadow 2 OR, CGW Brass: Starline New Primer: CCI 500 Powder: VV N320 (Measured volumetrically with the Berry’s load, and on a scale with the HAP) Conditions: Indoor, aprox 68 deg. F. Chronograph: CED Pro DLX with LED lights at 10ft. Distance: 15 yards COAL: With Berry’s 1.125 and HAP 1.068 Note: Load data may not be within SAMI Spec. Do NOT use this data for reloading without consulting a proper reloading manual. Berry’s 124gn HBRN, 4.0gn 1012 – 1057fps, SD 13.6 Bench rest: 1” Freestyle: 2” Hornady HAP 115gn, 4.0gn 1082-1126fps, SD 15.5 Bench rest: 2 1/4” Freestyle: 2 5/8” Hornady HAP 115gn, 4.1gn 1119-1135fps, SD 5.7 Bench rest: 1 5/8” Freestyle: 2” Hornady HAP 115gn, 4.2gn 1125-1174, SD 14.2 Bench rest: 1 5/8” Freestyle: 1 1/4” Hornady HAP 115gn, 4.3gn No Chrono data Bench rest: 2 1/2” Freestyle: 3” Hornady HAP 115gn, 4.4gn No Chrono data Bench rest: 2 1/2” Freestyle: 2 7/8” Hornady HAP 115gn, 4.5gn No Chrono data Bench rest: 1 1/2” Freestyle: 2 1/2”
  18. I am sure that HAP 115gr out of either of my guns would not cycle at under 850fps. (Measured at 10 ft from gun.) Maybe with a 9lb recoil spring, but for sure not down to the 700's. What am I missing? I am going to get a base line and I will post it. I would guess that freestyle I am shooting 4" groups at 15 yards. I will confirm.
  19. This project is going to be about getting to be as accurate as I can out of the ammo with what I have and the time I'm willing to spend. I will be using new Starline brass on a progressive press. I will not be hand loading, measuring out each load or checking every OAL, but will spot check all. I will be handloading and measuring powder for my test loads. In order to test my loads vs my skills, I will shoot from the bench and then repeat freestyle. I will compare the most accurate load I can get to my standard USPSA 124gr shooting freestyle and see if my skills are to the place where the more accurate ammo will make a difference. I will post my results. I am a decent shooter. Not great. Just started competing in various stuff a little less than a year ago. I get a couple range sessions a week, and also dry fire. Right now I'm in first place in the league.
  20. Cajunized S2 w/SRO and a TSO, irons. Distance is 10-50FEET. So, I pluck test every bullet profile and then load 0.010" under what it plunks at. Will that work for what you are suggesting or are you suggesting that I reduce a bit further? I like the advice so far! FWIW: I use Starline brass. For test loads, I usually start with new brass as well. I will be using CCI 500 primers. I think I will try loading some HAP 115's with 4.0-4.5 in .1 increments and seeing what that does.
  21. Up to this point, I've been loading for USPSA and Steel Challenge. Almost no matches in the winter in Ohio. There is a local indoor league that is bullseye style that I am shooting weekly, just for fun and to get some range time. I thought it might be fun to try to develop an accurate load. What I'm loading for USPSA and Steel are both about a million times more accurate than factory already but I want to see if I can do any better. Tested with 4 different rounds I already had loaded to see which was the best. 124gn Berrys w/4.0gn N320 beat out a HAP 115 N320 3.3gn, a Berrys 115gn N320 3.4gn, and a Blue 147 FP w/ 3.0 N320. No idea of where to start and what to change to try to find accuracy. Start with powder load or OAL? Anything else I will need to look at changing/modding? I'd prefer to stick with N320 so I don't have to make a powder change on my press if I don't have to, but if another powder would be significantly better I'll give it a try. This will be for a very short throat Cajunized Shadow 2 and a TSO. Here is all the powder and bullets I have to work with: Powder: N320 Accurate #7 CFE pistol Power pistol Tite group Hodgdon Universal Bullets Hornady -HAP 115 Blue Bullets -115 Rn -125 Rn -125 tc -135 tc -147 FP Berry’s -115 HBRN tp -124 HBRN TP
