  1. UPDATED 2/2024 Where to stay/eat: I would recommend looking for a hotel in the Polaris Area. That will be about 20minutes from the range and 10 minutes from central Columbus. You will have all your standard chains for I would expect about $100/night. If you are looking for an AirBNB, VRBO etc., anywhere outside of Columbus should be fine. If inside Columbus, for the North side, I would look at Westerville, Worthington, Beechwold, Lewis Center, Powell, Clintonville, New Albany, Dublin. Those are all safe neighborhoods. Polaris is a popular shopping area where you will find a mall with several adjacent shopping areas including a Cabelas. There are several good chains there. Here are a few I recommend: Quaker Steak and Lube - Excellent wings. Five Guys - A step up from standard fast food burgers. Molly Woo’s - Solid American Chinese chain. Mid-priced. Marcella’s - Solid Italian chain. Mid-priced. Chop 5 - Custom salads Kitchen Social - Solid American fusion menu with well thought out cocktails. Kura Revolving Sushi Bar - Get on waitlist via app very early, like hours early. Sushi is solid. Pat and Gracie’s - Bar/Restaraunt. I haven’t tried yet, but I hear great things. Some of my favorites around Columbus, locally owned and operated: NorthStar Cafe (several locations): A bit healthier, best burger in town, amazing bowls, salads and smoothes. Mid-priced Brassica (several locations): Quick service middle eastern. Mid-priced Ray Ray’s Hog Pit(several locations): The best barbecue in the midwest, maybe the world. Mid-priced Greek Express, 5328 High St. Best Gyro in town. Low-priced. 3rd and Hollywood: High end semi casual fine food. Best service and find dining in town. High-priced. Kai’s Crab Boil - Amazing crab and seafood served traditionally, Mid-priced. Los Guachos - Best Mexican in town. Several locations. Low-priced. Akai Hana - Best Sushi in town. Make a reservation. Gun shops: Columbus has probably 20-30 gun shops in the area. Here are a few I recommend: BlackWing Shooting Center in Delaware. Lots of selection of guns including things a bit more on the fringe, including competition guns. If you need an extra mag for your Shadow, they will probably have it, or a trigger, spring for your Glock. They will have all your standard competition model pistols, but not a ton of accessories for them. If you are looking for an HK battle rifle, a high end 1911, a selection of AUG’s, AK’s etc, this is the place. A decent used and consignment section as well. Vances - Obetz. Vances has several locations. The Cleveland Ave location is smaller and located in a bit rougher neighborhood. The Obets location is their flagship and is about the size of a small Cabelas. You will find your standard fare here for a fair price. They have a decent reloading selection. For an indoor range, this is the best in town. Cool factor, this place is now owned and operated by their employees, and one being one of the best practical pistol shooters in the USA. Cabelas - It’s Cabelas. Convenient and probably closest to Cardinal. Cardinal - I get the feeling by the time we have Nationals, we will have an actual shop on the premises there…. I don’t have any advanced knowledge, but I’ve seen some signage and building that makes me think that. Cap City Outfitters - Small shop that has a strong focus on tactical guns and gear. These guys are more knowledgeable on modern guns and tactics than any other shop in town. Powderroom Firearms - Small, old-school owner operated shop. They get some interesting guns in from time to time. They also tend to have obscure caliber ammo. Nortons Sporting goods - Small, old school shop that gets in some pretty interesting used firearms from time to time. Fin, Feather, Fur - In the opposite direction of Columbus. They have a great selection of guns and the best selection of reloading supplies in Ohio. They had CCI500 on the shelf for $70/1000 a month ago (Jan 2024). And a decent amount of Powder. They don’t carry VV. Things to do in the area: Groovy Plants Ranch: Very close to Cardinal. Good place to shop for a gift to bring home to your spouse if they like plants/gardening. Olentangy Caverns COSI - Center of Science and Industry. A must if you have younger children. Hollywood Casino - If you want to gamble, we have a full Casino on the west side of Columbus Fishing / Hiking: The area is just packed with great places to do both. Check out the Alum Creek area. Columbus Zoo and Aquarium: One of the best in the country. National Veterans Memorial Museum Mott’s Military Museum German Village Short North Arts District - Pretty cool, but safety is a concern. Midwest Photo: Shameless plug. One of the best and most knowledgable camera shops in the entire country. Audio/Video/Photo gear. We also rent (including GoPro) and have classes. We have a ton of local micro breweries. Check out Land Grant in Franklinton or any in the Brewery District south of downtown. They also have a Ray Ray’s food truck outside Land Grant. Rent a scooter downtown and in the Short North and ride along the Scioto Mile. Sports: AAA baseball, Columbus Clippers. NHL: BlueJackets, MLS: Columbus Crew. College: THE Ohio State University. Arena District: Good place to get a drink and bite to eat outdoors. Other competitions and clubs: You can shoot a match every weekend in Ohio in several different disciplines. Right now for USPSA IMO, the best 3 clubs are Cardinal, Dynamic Shooting Sports (DSS,) and Crawford County Sportsmans and Gun Club (CCSC.) The best Multi-gun is PCSI, Richwood Gun Club and Lima Sabres. Gun laws etc: None of this should be construed as legal advice. Ohio recently became what is considered to be a Constitutional Carry state. You do not need a license to carry a handgun at most times in most places. I do believe there are still some funky laws for transporting long guns in a vehicle. To be safe, don’t transport long guns or shotguns loaded, and keep any loaded magazines in a separate closed container. I believe there are also some exceptions for not carrying in certain establishments that server liquor. I haven’t looked at the law for this in a while, so do your own research. Where you can’t carry: Schools and school zones, government buildings, most concert venues. Any private businesses that have visible signage on their entry points. I believe carrying in a private business that has signage is subject to a misdemeanor trespassing charge. We are now a constitutional carry state, Feb 2024. https://codes.ohio.gov/ohio-revised-code/section-2923.12 https://codes.ohio.gov/ohio-revised-code/section-2923.11 https://codes.ohio.gov/ohio-revised-code/chapter-2923 https://codes.ohio.gov/ohio-revised-code/section-2923.121
  2. This is what I run right now. Looking pretty hard at that new DAA belt that was just announced. https://www.doublealpha.biz/us/daa-ratchet-belt They also sell the inner belt separately which is supposed to help with the binding and could be used with other systems. https://www.doublealpha.biz/us/daa-ratchet-inner-belt What I'm wondering is, with a system like that, is there a way to achieve modularity either utilizing the ELS system or something else?
  3. What mags/extensions/springs are available that are OVER 141mm? Looking for something 26-30rds. I spent 30 mins googling and I see some 26rd factory mags available in Europe but didn't see any here in the USA available. Thanks!
  4. Update: Sent bolt back to K-USA. They had it back to me in about a month. Sat on my bench. I have it back installed in the gun and have shot it a few times. They also sent me a new dust cover. No further issues, but I haven't run any bill drills or done any crazy splits with it. Good chance I will run it at least at one AK competition this summer.
  5. It would be nice if we could edit our posts after the fact. Just want to update one thing. Taking OFF the list of things to do: Short North Arts District We are having some Pew Pew issues in that area right now.
  6. Image link was sent out yesterday to participants through Practicscore I believe. PM me if you didn't receive it.
  7. Looking forward to Buckeye Blast in a couple weeks! I just signed on to be the staff photographer for the event. All photos will be available to download hi-res for free, or to order prints after the match. I will try to have QR codes printed in advance to make it easy.
  8. Moving to a new house and I'll need to get a new bench for reloading and one for working on my guns. What do you have that you like / don't like or what would you get if you could do it over? While capable, I'm not in to mood to build them. Thanks!
  9. Update: Reached back out to Dissident, they were aware of the statement from K-USA but did not contact me to let me know. They said I should email K-USA directly, which I did. K-USA responded within a couple days and said they would be sending me a shipping label to return the bolt for testing and the upgraded firing pin. I'm very nervous that they are not going to want to deal with it once they see the left hand charging that Dissident added, but we will see. That is why I was hoping for help from Dissident. IMO, they should reach out to K-USA to make sure they are going to honor the fix for the guns they modified. Asked Dissident to explain or send me a new dust cover (they stated previously that it was fixed, but it wasn't.). They did not respond to that part of the email. I followed up with a second email and still got no response. Not sure where to go from here.
  10. I 100% second everything Rowdyb says. I have both. I would add the following: I really do love the Dissident Arms KR-9, but... The do not warranty anything if you handload/reload ammo for the gun. Ask me how I know? After an OOB detonation with less than 500 minor PF loads through it, (doing a bill drill,) I sent it back. They took a look and then realized that I said up front that I reload for it. The OOB detonation was with new Starline brass and as I said, minor loads. Is it possible that i double charged N320 even with my double check system after 150,000 loads with out an issue? Yes. Is it possible that caused an actual OOB detonation where it blew a hole in the side of the case? No. The case showed no signs of overpressure at all. I'll add that all ammo I shoot is case guaged with a hundo, and checked for high primers. I've only been reloading for 3 years and am still quite a bit more cautious than I probably need to be. Dissident says they ran tests which i understood to mean they ran 150 rounds through it trying to duplicate the issue. They were not able to duplicate it and sent it back to me saying there is nothing wrong with the gun. I had a few discussions pleading with them to do additional testing and help me figure it out but they would not. Just putting a primed case behind the extractor, or a laser round and pulling the trigger OOB would have confirmed the issue. They returned the rifle, with the bent dust cover (they said they repaired it but they didn't.) Since then, K-USA the original maker of the KR-9 has admitted that they are having OOB detonations with the gun and I think they have come up with a fix. I'm not sure that Dissident is aware as they have not contacted me. I plan on following up with them this week. I don't fault them for a K-USA issue, but their service in general leaves something to be desired. Numerous emails and phone calls on this or other questions, unanswered. And if you are making a premium $$$ gun for competition use, you should expect that people are going to reload and warranty accordingly. Not to say issues can't be caused by reloads, of course they can, same as bad factory ammo. But, in my opinion, you have to do your due diligence to trouble shoot and figure out what the issue is, regardless of the ammo used. Especially since they let me know this was not the first time they have had this issue with a KR-9. Side note, they also verbally told me the gun should be cleaned after any heavy range session, or 250-500 rounds. That is way more than I like to clean my guns or have to clean any other competition gun that I own, let alone an AK platform... Side side note, while I'm pretty down on Dissident Arms for this situation, I have had several other very positive experiences with the company. I run a Komp-12 which is amazing, and their tuned mags are really great. As well, everything else about the KR-9 is great. It's so much fun to shoot, and has perfect AK pattern modification to run in competition. If you are considering a KR-9, I would recommend waiting a bit to see what the results of the K-USA firepin fix is. I will update as I get new info.
  11. It would be cool if there was a practiscore Outlook calendar..
  12. Ok. That all makes sense. Appreciate it!
  13. I do not witness mark so I'm not sure.
  14. I've got a Holosun 510c that stopped holding zero after about a 6 months of use on a .556 AK with side mount. It would consistently shoot lower over time. I am assuming I just got a bad unit because I have not yet experienced the same issues on any of my other platforms. I've got one on my JP5 and my 7.62 AK. Has anyone had this same experience? Did using a mount like the ADM help the issue? THanks!
  15. We have several. Agreed, they are very good and priced right.
  16. With 2 majors, and one level II at Cardinal Shooting Sports this year, here are a few resources and things you might want to know about the area and range. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. If you are local to the area, add your own observations and comments! We’ve got several people local to the area on this forum. Where to stay/eat: I would recommend looking for a hotel in the Polaris Area. That will be about 20minutes from the range and 10 minutes from central Columbus. I belong to a club on the West Side which shoots 2 stages on Thursday nights, right now it’s typically one steel challenge and one USPSA stage.. If you get in town early and need some trigger time before the match, hit me up for details. Gun laws etc: None of this should be construed as legal advice. 17. After 3 years of using Practiscore, I've found a new to me way to search for matches. Most if not all of you might know this method, but just sharing in case some of you don't or haven't tried. I like it because it is organized and I can see it in order of timeline and see which ones are open for registration. First, select any clubs you are interested in (takes a bit of time but worth it, IMO) and follow them by clicking on Clubs at the top and searching. Once you have all the clubs you want to see matches for, you can go to Find Events on your Dashboard. It gives you 2 lists. The top one is not crazy helpful (matches from clubs you have shot) but the bottom one gives you everything, in date order. Pretty cool. It's also now occurring to me just how lucky I am that I live in an area where I can pick and choose almost every weekend...
  18. I should mention, no signs of overpressure at 4.2 in my JP5 or Shadow 2.
  19. Checked a couple books and some list a max of 4.1 and some 4.2 for plated 124gn bullets. At 4.2 I'm only getting 129 power factor. Is the burn speed such that increasing powder is not going to give more velocity? Not crazy about shortening OAL to get more pressure. Any other suggestions for reaching at least 133PF?
  20. I got some of the 124 RN Plated Everglades to try. BTW, they are on sale for 7cents (qty 2000) today with code Labor22. Weight is more consistent that what I'm used to with Blues. I weighed about 15 and they were within 1gn of each other. 123.5-124.5gns. OAL was more consistent also. For dot movement, I can't give a fair comparison as the PF for the 124's was lower than the 147 FP Blues I'm running. I cannot believe what my comp looks like after shooting 1k of Blues. The lead is freaking caked on, and it doesn't want to come off.
  21. Cases now spitting 4-7ft, not a single failure. Chrono results: USPSA pistol reloads: Blue 147 FP, N320. 138PF in JP5 (133PF in Shadow 2) 115 Syntech: 143PF, each round chronoed at 140 or 145, nothing in between... 130 Syntech PCC: 147PF, extremely consistent.
  22. I am going to try to do that this evening. I also spoke with JP. They asked that I run some factory ammo and see how it does. I've got some Syntech and a few other boxes I will test with. Side note, they said they expect the 90 locking blocks to be available in about a week and he thought they would be around $99.
  23. It is interesting, it came with a post card that described the general barrel break-in, which also referred to the manual, and it seemed to be more directed at their rifle caliber guns. I did not see anything in the manual that mentions barrel break-in. I could have missed it, correct me if I'm wrong.
