  1. I put a micrometer on a large and small powder bar for each press 550 and 650. did purchase the helicoil kit for 550. started ed with one micrometer but soon decided i needed on all measures. have question? has made it possible to dial in powder throw
  2. After four surgeries and two years of ocupational therapy to regain partial use of hands back I would suggest you do what you can do to reduce repeative motion injuries to your hands. I cannot say that the roller arms would have prevented injury but I could not reload with a a ball handle now. watch your computer use of keyboards and mice. bought one for 550 and 650, kept original on forrester bonanza b2 coaxial press as little finger is only required because of large mechanical advantage
  3. in need of a tool to pick the brass locating pins out of the holes in the shell plate use the L shape brakets slots that you have left over after inserting a card in the slot. the notch where the screw goes easily hooks the brass pin and also allows it to be put back in the shell plate now if someone knows a good way of finding all those nonmagnetic brass pins before they get sucked out of the shag carpet by the vacuum cleaner
  4. secret classified documents are regularly shipped by usps registered mail, does that put you at ease or scare you?
  5. This is my second index ring I have broken, first one was two years ago and i attributed it to a shaky bench and hesitation on cycling. Dillion is sending a new one but I still have to change it. I reinforced bench(one of the best things for improving reloading but because following hand surgery I had not reloaded for two years(I put away a two year supply so I and my wife would not run out while i recovered from several hand/elbow surgery. I had confusion on wether a cycle started on up stroke or down stroke. i thought i recovered after dumping all cases on shell plate because of possible bad powder throw. On the next cycle a piece of broken index ring fell to bench. what likely did i do wrong?
  6. notice to those who have syptems. it is now two years later. my left hand is significantly worst, the right no worst but not better and elboxa have suffered so much damage i am being forced to take early retirement which means i can not afford this hobby and may have to sell all and still give up shooting. take the warning seriously and see immediate medical help. what washington was not able to do carpel tunnel cuprical tunnel has done stripped me of my ability to shoot
  7. since you found bracket i feel i can tell you if you cut off part of bracket you can mound a akro bin to use as a bullet bin. you can also stack several bins on top of each other to but an akro bin full of bullets next to the shell plate as a cheap bullet tray
  8. some one just posted a comment on the SASS cowboy action shooter's Forum check for cowboy comments http://sassnet.com/forums/index.php?act=ST...t=0#entry748424
  9. You can load several hundred rounds in an hour, seting up in the truck if that realy is an option will take an hour. wait til your home reload for an hour you will probaly have enough ammo then. I HAVE TO STUDY TO RELOAD and decide what to load do that studing then, there are tapes to go over and these might be an option. how much time you have to shoot will determin how much ammo you need. I was shooting for years before i started reloading. Assuming the majority of shooting is recreation for you then shooting rimfire you will be shooting cheaper and no need for reloading. If you want to practice with you centerfire pistol, how about a 1911 rimfire conversion. put the money saved on reloading components to build up that reloading bench at home either with the dillon on use the hand press in the cab or home supplemented by the rimfire.. IN either case your better half is concerned about your health and you should be wearing eyes and ear protection wheen you reload and shoot the hands are fairly safe. I have friends that have been in trucking business, i hope you are able to work something out that gives you some relaxation, does not break the bank,or jeopradize you living
  10. Because of a head injury I lacked confidence that my reloads were safe and I contemplated a failsafe also. There are many possibilities of hesitation during primming and other operation of the lever that i observed that could reult in dangerous loads. You have to monitor that the lever goes fully in single directions with no hysteris the wheel is indexed at right momemt powder bar travels full direction again with no hysterisis.. I decided that unless all these critical motions monitor no guarante could be offered and there still might be a mothode that powder might hang up in measure. solder paste volume, road roughness, is measure by laser height guages were a beam at an angle moves left or right dependingg on height of object. volume can be calculated. the dillon powder failsafe does this in the 5 station or more presses. This would be more cost effective that laser measurement. the electronic systm has too many changes of failing so liability would be high and could not afford to be sued. cheaper to buy a 650, although if you search previous post on this forum a powder sensor was adapted to a 550 tool head. I elected to get a 650,I use the brain a a chanted matra to do the 550 ABC shuffle and eyeball charge, no distractions. not meant to discourage.you have to throw out others thoughts if you think they are not vaolid including mine
  11. most recent pact add says it works with their scale and any rcbs powder pro made after acertain date that you need to see ad,call pact or rcbs
  12. Two different manufacturing methods for their receivers, they build for others, as is possible with any receiver sold as receiver only you do not know how gun a gunsmith put it together. wether barrel headspaced , assembled and torgued to right values if bolt was magluxed was carrier key peaned in place. I would be likely to tear it all down and make sure it is put back right. By the way i have a oly with a stainless ultramatch barrel great gun with the good receiver. I am in a state that bans ar so what i have is all i will ever have
  13. Ask the RO what the brass policiy is, some have what ever brass hits the ground is theirs to be reloaded, sold, some expect you to police your brass so they don't have to. Some may have military using with crimped primers that you will have to swage the primers before you run it through your progressive rreloader. Ask the shooter in the next station if they are saving their brass, remind those in next station you are reloading yours(some shooters don't even know you can reload) so they don't just sweep up all brass to dump in can. As far as sorting you can feel differce reloading. crimping is different and case capacity for powder can be different. sometimes it does not matter. separate at first see if mixed brass matters to you or is a waste of time. remember nicks, grit, dirt can damage your dies. They have bags that you can separate you brass, toss in tumbler, and keep separate.
  14. I ve known two doctors with brokeen shoulders falling off treadmills, two coworkers run over and killed on bikes by cement trucks several with bad knees and ankles from running on concrete, dozens from cardiac and strokes not doing anythink but sitting in front of conputers or TV. No injuries from ellipicals and nordic tracks
  15. I have gone to the compact florescent light bulbs instead with electronic ballast. I have them into 80-100 lumen output and can position thme so there is no shadows up underneath the case loaders and can see powder level in each case without shadows. they have not interfered with my dillon electronic scal or rcbs charge master. by the way it 5600K kelvin for daylight color rendering lower 5000k is blue 5800k is warm red. ive told the wife with the money we saved with the lights we get and operate anther dillon with case feeder. She said NICE TRY
  16. there is both a wrist carpal tunnel and an elbow syndrome. I just spent the last 6 month getting the wrist surgery and now splint the elbows. My pinch strength on the left and right thumbs does allow me to pinch the slides on any of the centerfire pistols and only the ruger mk II, I can press the cylinder release on the rugers, pull the release only on a colt trooper mkIII and not effected too much on the single actions but the keyboarding on the job that pays for all the toys suffers the most. I had all the keyboard and mouse cushions but hopefully this program may save my handgunshootin future. It is called dragon naturally speaking ver 9 prefurred. a voice recognition program about 99% accurate at $200 dollars.take this problem very seriously because it is no fun tring to get back to shooting. there is no guarantee that the damage is not pernament.
  17. You should attach it to the wall also unless the bench is 300 pounds. attach a 2 x4 to wall so you can then attach bench to 2x x4 . A solid bench is one of the most important thing you can do for consistant ammo and trouble free dillon. powder throw more consistant and primers dont get flipped
  18. If you shoot more4 than one caliber the stoney point guage will be better for you, sinclair has another solution that is less
  19. I have the original dillon digital since it was first sold, the zero drifts a little and I used it with a redding powder measure to throw my charges for rifle using a long extruded grain that dide not throw well with the dillon powder measure. I now use a rcbs chargemaster for my rifle loading. It allowed the measure rcbs 1500 to be purchased and an electronic dispensor to be added later also availible as a combo from start. I would have gone this route to begin with. Reviews are good and no problems this first year. If you are loading rifle also I recimmmend the rcbs 1500/chargemaster you can use just the scale.
  20. I have a older set of Pact skyscreens and have 2ft welded bracket from square tubular stocl welded. if i upgrade with the ir kit will i need a new extruded rail or will older one still work
  21. NOT TRING TO BE FUNNY BUT A 95 INDEX SHOULD HAVE BROKE BY NOW
  22. Bought third one. one on 650 small bar two on 550 one for small one for large, redding comp seaters. load development and quality reloads never been this easy or good. no need for extra measures but a need to the micrometer and bar tied to correct calibration is now most difficut task thanks for great product
  23. HERE IS ONE ANSWER: If you rent a gun, you have to bring a friend to shoot in same lane. If you want to shoot alone it has to be with your own gun.The range liability insurance carriers will by default end up setting safety requirewments if a range wants coverage or by legislators as it has attempted here in CA. There are less people receiving instructions at camp, boy scouts, gir scouts there are now about 40,000 certified instructors and accidents are on the way down. The problem maybe the instruction received by hollywood by directors spike lee rather than john wayne or roy rogers. I think the attitude is the problem as is lack of knowledge.
  24. just had surgery on weak hand in july and strong hand 2 weeks ago. anyone have references or experience on r ecovering. lookslike it may take to first of january to get ba ck to shooting without damaging work on hand s. typing maybe long er
