  1. Update, I loaded about 20 rounds with 23.1 grains of imr 4195 using 125 Sierra bullets with .308 diameter. I used my 308 expander ball but the bullets were almost impossible to get in the case neck so I went back and ran the 311 expander through them. I then used my seating and taper crimp die to set my coal and crimp. The rounds made 2150fps +- 20fps and shot a 1.2" group at 100 yrds. I was happy with the results since it was my first batch of rifle rounds. Now I'm hooked, I'm venturing into 6.5 creedmoor now and hope to get into some longer range shooting
  2. I just ordered one of these rifles and a leupold 6-18 40mm to go on it, my question is what rings are you using if you have a 20 moa rail. I wanted to see what height rings most people found lined up with the comb height. This is going to be my first rifle setup for longer ranges so I don't have any other builds to go off of.
  3. Thanks for all the input. I didn't think about the xtreme plated being that big a difference from the jacketed bullet, that's probably a big factor. I'm definitely keeping the load how it is is been a good reliable setup and very accurate in my equipment
  4. I used mine for deer last year and it was awesome. Just want to try to develop my own loads for that. I agree for fmj it's usually way easier to just buy it but lately it's been higher than normal and harder to get
  5. I have the rock island but been eyeing a sfx because you know we love guns. What do yall think in a comparison, it's apples to oranges, but what say you?
  6. I've had a 9mm tac ultra since they came out and it's probably my favorite handgun. My only complaint is that I have to pry it away from my wife when she's at the range with me. I replaced a few parts with wilson combat stuff, like the slide stop and the barrel bushing. Polished the feed ramp into the barrel and blended it but didn't take too much. Put some dawson sights on it and smoothed out the trigger a little. It really has been a fun gun. I used it in 3 gun a good bit and it worked well. Has anyone run the STI mags in one enough to give a reliability report? I wouldn't mind trying the 140mm ones if they work well
  7. Ok, thank you, that's what I was wondering. I may load 10 or so to try them and if it doesn't work out then I can get some .311. I have the .308 expander in my resizing die so they should fit correctly. I'll let you know some numbers when I get some data
  8. So I'm just starting out in rifle reloading and have some questions about some loads for my 7.62x39. I am trying to use components that I have found to be readily available in stores near me and that combination has turned out to be, IMR4198 23grns, with a 125 grn Sierra boat tail that's. 308 instead of. 311 like the load data shows. I haven't loaded any yet because I wanted to make sure that going with a different diameter bullet wouldn't be dangerous or have adverse outcomes. I changed the expander ball in my small base taper crimp rcbs die set to work with. 308, does anyone have any advice on this?
  9. Thanks for the replies folks, I think I'm going to keep it the way I have it for now. I still have enough components to load this for a while, hopefully I'll be able to find more hp38 when I run out
  10. I was just curious about why I'm getting an extra 120 fps over the velocity posted for that recipe. Not really wanting to change it, just curious if the extra inch of barrel could account for that much increase in speed
  11. No nothing wrong with it, I was just wondering what yalls opinion was on it. I don't think I'm in any danger of over pressure with it, what do you think? It's an accurate load and doesn't have much recoil.
  12. So I have been using the same recipe for my 9mm for a while,.355" 115gr xtreme with 5.0 grains of hp38 and coal of 1.126". I haven't chronod any loads in a while so I took a few at random and checked them in 2 guns today. 1st gun is an XDM withers 5.25" barrel and second is a 2011 with a 5" barrel. I was getting 1250fps average out of both guns. I checked my charge weight before loading and after I got back from the range today and it's 5 grains +- .1. Should I back off on the powder or do yall think it could be the chrono I'm using is reading fast. I don't have a second chrono to check it against.
