  1. 2011 BARC - Sponsor Update We would like to welcome LOKI Weapon Systems as a new contributing sponsor for the 2011 Bay Area Rifle Championship. LOKI Weapon Systems hand built AR-15 rifles and custom 1911 pistols deliver remarkable quality, repeatable accuracy, and the utmost reliability.
  2. Just remove the sizing die altogether, cases that are primed and ready to load don't need sizing or decapping. And remember to NOT push through on the primer seating stroke after the ram is back down. Do these two things and you will be good to go to load your ready to go cases on the 550.
  3. If your starting charge is 1/2 of the max listed charge then thats kinda safe to double, otherwise there is no such thing as a safe double charge once the base charge weight doubled exceeds max safe charge weight. In other words, there is no such thing really, but but then again, it all depends on the starting charge in use in the first place The advice to use a low density powder that will always overflow the case if doubled is the only way to get any safety built into the powder choice like you are seeking. HS6 fills this bill in 9mm. Hope this helps you.
  4. Myself, I would never settle for an AR build that didn't hold at least MOA if not better with good ammo. The OP (Duane) stated he is looking for a build that is "done right" and from a "top quality builder". In post 6 above, I mentioned Triangle along with JP. Benny definitely knows his shjt when it comes to AR's :-)
  5. I don't have experience with Firebird but from what I have heard they pass muster as a top AR company. I do have experience with JP and Triangle Shooting Sports AR's and can highly recommend either for a quality AR build
  6. We are also pleased to have BrianEnos.com, GlockWorx, Grams Engineering and Tabor Shooting Supplies back as contributing sponsors for the 2011 BARC. Complete list of BARC sponsors: 2011 BARC Sponsor List Many thanks to our sponsors for their generosity in supporting this match. Please consider them first for any future purchase plans you make. Remember to support those who support the sport!

Please welcome AmmoMax.com and JP Rifles as new contributing sponsors for the 2011 BARC. AmmoMax offers a large variety of loaded ammunition and reloading components at discount prices with quick shipping and all backed by a customer service guarantee. When you need ammo, think AmmoMax. World class rifles, optics and accessories from a world class manufacturer.
  8. OK, as of this afternoons mail, the 2011 BARC has reached maximum capacity and registration is now closed. All entries we receive at this point will go onto a waiting list in order of postmark. We will notify everyone put on wait list via email letting them know what their position on the list is.
  9. Update on 2011 Bay Area Rifle Championship competitor entries. I have just finished processing all entries received to date and the match is almost full. We only have 11 of the 75 available slots left as of today. If you are interested in shooting this match in 2011 I would advise getting your entry in as soon as possible. Once the match fills up all entries received after that point will be put on a waiting list in order received. If your entry is put on the waiting list you will be notified via email and your match fee check will not be cashed until we actually have a confirmed slot for you. Waiting list slots will be given out in order of entry postmark. To get on the waiting list you must submit an entry form and match fee payment. I have sent an email confirmation out to everyone that we have received an entry from to date. If you have submitted your entry and have not received an email confirmation we either have not received your entry or the email address you provided is not valid (I have had two dead email bounce backs so far). Squadding is almost complete and I will be emailing a squad and competitor details list out to all registered competitors by the end of this week.
  10. The 2011 BARC Registration Form is now available. Please make sure to sign and return the liability release form (included with the application) when you send in your entry.
  11. OK, we have confirmed that Irvington Arms will be returning as our main match sponsor for the 2011 BARC. We have also confirmed BrianEnos.com, GlockWorx and JP Rifles as contributing sponsors. Thanks to the support of our match sponsors the 2011 BARC will have a very well stocked prize table. Remember to support those that support the sport :-)
  12. New Division Info & Rules Details For 2011 BARC. Open, Tactical & Limited/Standard as usual. Manual Standard & Open with a twist. Added divisions scored under manual rifle rules (1 shot per paper target) = Big Bore Standard & Big Bore Open. These new division designations would be in the interest of getting more folks to use big-bore battle rifles in competition. However much I love the AR platform, I have a distinct fondness for old-school .30 caliber rattle battle rifles. To that end I would like to do something to encourage their usage in matches that traditionally favor the AR platform in .223. Big Bore Division = .30 caliber minimum bullet diameter. Minimum caliber = 7.62x39 (Russian AK round). .30 carbine and other pistol style rounds are specifically excluded for you gamers out there, centerfire bottle-neck rifle cartridges of .30 caliber or larger only please Big Bore Standard = standard USPSA Limited rifle config, no bipods. Single non-magnified optic allowed as per recent USPSA ruling. Big Bore Open = standard USPSA Open rifle config, pretty much anything goes. This does not mean anyone with an M1A or Garand or any .30 box magazine, semi-auto has to be in the new division. You can choose to run a big bore rifle in the normal semi-auto divisions with the power factor advantage going for you. You will just get scored against the AR's and have to shoot two minimum at every paper target. If however, you choose to go the Big Bore division route, you run against other BB competitors only for plaques and prize table order and get scored entirely within your own division. Garand will still get a special category award of one "High Garand" plaque to the Garand shooter who places best against all other Garand shooters. The coveted "Crease Award" will be back again along with all the usual categories (LEO, Military, Lady, Senior, Super Senior) awarded in depth according to how many competitors qualify. EQUIPMENT RULES NOTE: Due to the recent questions concerning whether and/or how fixed and detachable fore-grips qualify as support devices we have decided this match will allow them as follows. Limited/Standard and Tactical: Fixed ones only allowed. A detachable may be used, but it MUST remain attached AND in it's original position throughout the match. Open: Anything goes! For either division, a handguard mounted fore-grip may make contact with anything the rifle is allowed to make contact with in the designated shooting areas. In other words, as long as it doesn't fault the shooting area, contact/support with the fore-grip is fine, just like with the handguard on a barricade, magazine on ground, etc... For the purposes of this ruling, a fore-grip is a fixed extension of the handguard. More later.
  13. Yep, going rate for a good 55gr FMJ is just over 8 cents per so with shipping covered that's about right. Gotta' buy 5-6k plus to get any better deal.
  14. +1 to 26.5gr WW748 under any FMJ 55gr bullet. Set OAL to 2.230-2.235" and call it macaroni. This is a safe load to just go and duplicate to start. Not minimum, but not maximum. Will function the gun and should shoot fine in most any AR variant. Any name brand SR primer will do. Try to use one lot brass if possible to keep things consistent. Don't crimp to start and only taper crimp lightly if you do.
  15. What do I pick? Rifle, every time, no question, near or far
  16. Because thats what it took. The die setting as far as where it is threaded in to is a very generic thing and not correct in every case, or at all. You really have to measure and just set the die to get the numbers you need.
  17. You can usually be correct if doing as Chills says, all the way down and then 1/4 to 1/2 turn more, but this is just guessing and trusting. Get a gauge and measure and then you will know for sure.
  18. It does both, you can use the overall step as a go/no-go and/or use the step as a comparator. You can actually have your cake and eat it too
  19. If power factor of the two loads is the same, the total recoil impulse will be the same. The way the recoil pulse is felt depends on how fast it is applied (rise time) The lighter bullet will have a perceived higher recoil impulse because it has a faster rise time than a heavy bullet recoil impulse. Think of it like dumping the clutch from a dead stop compared to easing it in.
  20. The LE Wilson gauge also provides numbers too. The machined step allows you to measure where the case head of a fired case sits using the depth mode on a caliper. Then you resize a case also fired in that rifle and compare it's depth in the step. This gives you an "exact" measurement of shoulder setback compared to the fired case, which is the same dimension of the chamber it was fired in. Voila' headspace and shoulder setback by the numbers :-) Check the Instructions for the LE Wilson gauge HERE
  21. Get an LE Wilson case gauge. Follow it's instructions about using it to compare a fired unsized case from your rifle to a sized case. This will allow you to determine the shoulder setback the resizing die is providing and adjust it to get what you need. Semi-auto's need 1.5-3 thousandths shoulder setback to create correct headspace. Bolt rifles need little to no shoulder setback providing the case being resized was originally fired in the chamber it will be going back into. The LE Wilson case gauge not only has a calibrated step machined in the case head end of the gauge to determine correct shoulder setback but also has a calibrated step machined in the case mouth end that will indicate trim length range. Much simpler tool to use than the Hornady comparator AND you get an ammo drop gauge too. Very handy all-in-one tool :-)
  22. Forget 231 for major PF in an open gun. Too fast a powder like said above.
  23. Get out your dremel, or call JP Rifles and ask for some of their modified screws
