  1. It’s going to be smaller than that because you’re going over the ogive. I generally just give it enough to slightly press into the bullet or touch it. You can usually see a gap or lack of gap between the brass and bullet. Might have to play with it a bit. If they don’t shoot well at that length you can always go longer and just taper crimp the same. Over the ogive just helps hold them in a bit better. I have a question for you. Would a 22 be enough to knock down those falling steel targets? Might be a better target for steel shoot as you could definitely tell a good hit and wouldn’t have to re-paint.
  2. ^2X I seat non cannalure bullets just a bit over where the the bullet starts to taper and leave a gap between it and the case then taper crimp. It’s easy to check where the ogive starts by just setting your caliper to the diameter or a hair under and drop the bullet nose first into the jaws. Just mark the bullet where it stops and test your oal.
  3. It appears that the 147’s get a more complete burn, but whatever North Florida is loading appears to be quite efficient. How do they shoot?
  4. That certainly is quite interesting. No real definitive reason. Would be interesting to know what the powders were used in the loads.
  5. The heat generated by you shooting so fast is causing the hammer to swell and that shim makes it too tight. That sounds better than shooter error.
  6. I’ve got a 375 PW that I bought used that had a few issues. I was in the area so stopped by the factory with it to grab some parts and ask a few questions. The gal I talked to (the guys wife) was very professional and helpful. Her husband on the other hand was a perfect A-hole. He walked up said, “what’s he doing in here”? Right off the bat acted like he was going to throw me out of the building. She calmed him down slightly to where I could ask him a question and he just grabbed my press, took it over to the bench and proceeded to take a mallet to it. The top wasn’t seated down all the way on the support guide rods. But he didn’t even check to see if the set screws were loosened or not, just drove it home. I still have it but won’t buy another from them.
  7. I was thinking the same thing that a 40 would slide right on out of a 45 Unless it did actually fire but not extract because it swelled or split the brass in the chamber and that’s why it stuck. Still doesn’t explain why it would have cycled the slide unless it was just because it’s a higher psi round.
  8. My cousin bought one a while back and loves it. Said the powder measure stays spot on and he can load up a box of shells during a commercial break on his favorite show. I kinda think that the red dot/Promo is going to commercial loading’s. Fortunately I picked up #12 of e3 before it went crazy and use that in my 130 PF pistol loads and 1oz and less shotgun loads. With what little I shoot anymore it should last a while.
  9. I just picked up 5k from them. Works out to .05 ea because they had free shipping at the time.
  10. Yikes! First time I’ve heard that but your secrets safe with me. Should have cut a clean hole in the target if it would have made it though. Glad you didn’t get hurt.
  11. You certainly have that right!! My wife fell and broke her hip in July. We went to the e-room to get an X-ray and at the time her knee hurt worse than the hip. Well they didn’t see anything so they put her knee in a brace and sent us home. No one thought of looking at anything else for the cause of the pain. I took her home and made her as comfortable as I could and sort of checked her out myself. We even went to an orthopedic Dr and he just tugged on it and said it probably was an impingement. She said if that leg would have worked she would have kicked him in the balls when he pulled on it. She finally had enough and we went back and told them to X-ray the whole leg. Sure enough she broke it on the neck of the ball so we went to the local hospital 40 miles away that does surgery and waited another 2.5 hrs in their Emergency Room. Of course it had already been over 10 days so what’s a couple more hrs. Like you said you have to just constantly push push push to get anything done.
  12. Really makes you want to grab them by the neck, drag them all it to the same room and ask them WTF? Of course then they’d all sit there, not say anything and just look stupid.
  13. If we were all like Samone Biles we wouldn’t have to think about all this stuff when we trip up. Just do a triple and land it. I find myself really paying attention when crawling around on equipment anymore. Be safe and heal well.
  14. Don’t kid yourself, that shipping charge has the hazmat in it, and then some.

I guess my ritual is to do a lot of cussing before I go get my tools.
  17. Generally if it’s just a single squib from a light load it will not bulge the bbl nor slam the slide back. I’ll bet you have 2 slugs in that bbl or something that was obstructing it. That’s why the high psi reaction. Whenever you try and remove a stuck slug use a heavy hammer like 2 lb. A heavy hammer pushes, a light one peens. A cold rolled rod with the end edges slightly radiused and as close to bore size that you can get will work fine without bore damage.

I know everyone is wired a little differently and I’m not knocking anyone’s rituals but for me the more I think about it the more I end up thinking of the procedure or rituals than actually what I need to do. If I’m going fishing the next day I try very hard to get things ready the day before and just do a simple walk around before we leave. I guess you could call that my ritual. If everything has been double checked the day before there’s no need to check it five more times the day of. I also know that I won’t be competing with the top notch guys so if I screw up… well I screwed up and that’s a learning experience. And your correct, a Tick is an involuntary movement that you have no real control over.

Reminds me of Belushi in Animal House.
  20. Or 1/4” 500. It doesn’t weigh any more than 400 but should last longer and would hold up to a larger caliber if it accidentally got popped.

In everything I do the more I screw with it the worse I perform. It’s like it distracts me from what I should be paying attention to…..like the beep, green light ect. Just stage and Go. My hunting friend says every time he over analyses a shot ie (how far is it, what’s the wind, should I take a neck shot ect ect) he’ll miss every time. Just pull up and BLAM it’s on the ground. I’ve seen him do it many many times from 50-200 yards.
