  1. I have had 3 open 9mm major guns in the last 2 years. All of them have run 100%. Three guns in 2 years? I hope you just like buying new guns and this is not an indication of the short life span of a major 9 gun.
  2. Anyone notice as the alchohol hit her accent changes? Went from Austrailian to French in a paragraph or two. By the end of the book she's a full blown Vulcan. A whole new market sector, go after the "treckies".
  3. Looks like they might have one additional "foreigner". I'm visiting my daughter that weekend and the range is only 15 - 20 minutes from her house. Couldn't ask for a better excuse to go shooting.
  4. Thanks Merlin. How is the gunk removed? Do any solvents work or does it require mechanical removal? FS
  5. Unless you are shooting Open there is NO reason to use anything else...Ever. IMHO. Per Precision's website, you can run their bullets to 2000 fps without leading. I'm looking at a load for my open gun running around 1350 fps. Is the coated bullet a bad idea? Due to leading or something else? Thanks.
  6. If fast e-mail response is your requirement to be your gunsmith, e-mail George at EGW. Always a fast response to e-mails and phone calls. (Not recommending you e-mail George just to see a fast response, place a order or pose a valid question, please.)
  7. I've always adjusted the OAL to make the gun feed reliably, then adjusted the powder weight to make major but was aware that any changes in bullet length affected the PF and required a trip to the range with a chronograph. OAL seems to be more critical to reliability than the amount of powder I use (at least in my guns). To me, reliability is the issue.
  8. The new club members in their first "man on man" competition.
  9. I looked at the WGC online catalog. They have the Western Arms Para Ultimate Comp Special that would be perfect for what I want. Currently sold out. They have the same gun sans the scope mount in stock for a few dollars less. Two problems, (1) they are currently sold out, and (2) they are in Hong Kong. I don't know how they want you to pay for your order, but I won't voluntarily give my credit card number to someone in a foreign country. (Mastercard's protection plans only apply to use with US companies.) A money order would be safer as for a maximum potential loss, but it gives no protection should the vendor decide to cash the money order and ignor my requets for shipment.
  10. [ Hey QuicksDraw, I think I can help you sleep better at night. ASAP get those mags out of Nuevo Jersey and into the Lone Star State. They are quite legal here. PM me for my mailing address. I'll give them a good home. And if they are not for a Para, its justification for me to buy another gun.
  11. The comp will enable me to use my match holster. Got the red dot, the scope mount, and even the drill press. Just need the airsoft. Somewhere I saw that ParaOrdnance would not license to any of the airsoft manufacturers. Is this what makes them rare in the US?
  12. "Para Ordnance Ultimate Comp. Something already setup as a 5" with a comp" ready for my red dot is exactly what I'm looking for. I also want to get it a beefed up metal slide, stronger recoil and trigger springs (see Front Sight, July/August 2006, page 68). So far I've been unable to find one on the internet with a US retailer. Please keep us informed on your progress.
  13. Can you try putting the gun back together with the bull barrel and the original recoil spring assembly? Or at least assemble the gun without the recoil spring assembly and see if you have the same problem. Rack the slide back and see if there is any apparent drag. Repeat this with the mag well pointed up (the gun upside down) and rack the slide back. If the slide sticks with the gun upside down, then look over the barrel link assembly closely. If these work out OK then the problem may be the RecoilMaster pushing the barrel into the top of the slide. I assume the RecoilMaster outer assembly moves smoothly on the inner assembly with no drag. (p.s. I'm not a gunsmith, just a tinkerer of 30+ years. If a gunsmith has better ideas, we would both love to hear them.)
  14. Could be any of the following: 1. Lots of crud built up on the slide rails making the slide drag to where the recoil spring can't overcome the friction. 2. The disconnector dragging on the slide to again cause the slide to drag. 3. A damaged recoil spring with even a little bit of crud on the slide rails or the bottom of the slide just ahead of the disconnector cut. Also check make sure the guide rod is not coming unscrewed. 4. A damaged or too long barrel link causing the top of the barrel to drag on the slide.
  15. Gotta add one to the "don't do while naked". Don't ever walk naked through the house if you have a new playful puppy thats looking for its favorite chew toy. No permanent damage done. And I don't really miss that dog either.
  16. In addition to the lengthened forcing cone, I had Briley bend my stock to fit me. The better fit seems to reduce felt recoil. Also improves my accuracy. Ports did not seem to help me.
  17. Many years ago (approximately 1986) I thought I had potential. I got lots of range time and even did well at the Nationals (2nd in my class). The sky was the limit. Then I shot a match that included Rob Leatham and Brian Enos. If my best day ever coincided with their worst day, I still didn't stand a chance. From that point on, I competed against myself. And I probably enjoy a less stressful match as a result. Now, due to location, I no longer have a place to practice. All of the ranges locally do not allow drawing from holsters or "fast" shooting. I did a slow fire exercise (12 shots over a 30 second interval) and got to meet the range owner. A double tap is permanent expulsion. A little dry fire practice and hopes of shooting a few local matches means I still get to shoot the sport I love, but I will not be able to improve my skill level. Not competitive and loving it.
  18. Yeah, American Express. You pay the bill, they say you didn't. No discussion, they are ready to file it with collection agency. You contact bank and send American Express copy of the cancelled check. No discussion, they are now filing with collection agency. Pay the bill a second time and hope they get it right this time. You decide to cancel American Express card. Several months later they send you a new American Express card. You destroy card. Each year for several years, they send new cards and I continue to destroy their card. And after all this, they want to know why I do not use their card.
  19. You may want to consider the old "Red Buff" mount. Its now manufactured by Hiett Technologies and available through EGW. http://egw-guns.com/catalog/product_info.p...products_id=136 This mount is a weaver style rail that attaches to the frame just above the left grip and replaces the factory plunger tube. Its design allows full use of the front slide serrations. I've had mine for years (ParaOrdnance framed gun) and wouldn't trade it for anything. You don't mention what gun you are mounting a C-More on, but with the Hiett mount, the frame will need some machining by a gunsmith. I'm sure George can handle that too.
  20. I never really thought of it as much of a problem. I have a small dust broom with long soft bristles. Whenever I'm done loading for the evening, I sweep down the press including the primer rail and cover everything up with a plastic dust cover.
  21. My vote is based on which handgun would I miss the most. Easy, the one that I handle every day. My daily carry gun. L.W. Seecamp .32 auto. Compact, reliable, and always nearby.
  22. FWIW, I bought my PACT timer/chrono over 20 years ago and its still going strong. Hard to argue against a quality product.
  23. If unable to shoot both guns in the classifier match, do shoot the limited gun. You have the loads and experience with this gun to properly represent your true classification. With the open gun, it will take some practice (more than a few weeks) to get up to speed with your new toy. Above all, enjoy.
  24. I have not traveled with firearms in the past several years, but my travel agent advised not to lock suitcases and any other checked luggage. On my last trip, had a post card sized note from the "luggage police" that indicated that my luggage had been searched. Don't know how this will affect travel to distant matches.
  25. I've been using a case gauge for so long that I didn't remember that it was optional. From the little blue box attached to my Dillon 550, the loaded shells go into a large cardboard box. Then, at my latest convenience, the shells go from the cardboard box into the case gauge and then into the little plastic box with the dividers. In the plastic box I can readily see any inverted, high, or otherwise poorly set primers as well as a good look at comparable loaded bullet length. Now when I have a bullet malfunction, I know its (1) too little powder, or (2) finally time to clean my gun.
