NROI recommended "minute of basketball" for pointing at the start flag/cone/mark.
How big is "minute of basketball"? From the flag, how many inches high or to the left or right of the flag/cone/mark is acceptable?

its an art form in my opinion to know how to stage revolver trigger.
An art form I will never master.
But I do like the "Weekly Recalculation". Nice to know where I stand in RFRO and RFPO. Keep up the excellent work.

If you have a 22 reamer, drop it in and turn with two fingers. It cuts the wax buildup on the chamber shoulder.
On a 10/22, can a 22 reamer be used without removing the barrel? What are the dimensions? Thanks.

I just spoke with TK. The green rotor and nylon feedlips have been discontinued for individual retail sales.
It was not clear if they will continue to sell the fully assembled double mag once their parts are depleted.
Green springs, nut and screw will continue to be sold.
Not good news. Hopefully its just a temporary issue. I've got too many of the TK Doubles and need to keep them running.

Going from a Ruger Mk2 (without comp) versus the Mamba X (with comp) made little difference with the Mini-mag ammo. But now that the Mamba is broke in, it really likes the CCI SV ammo. Less muzzle movement and very little recoil. For practice I buy bricks of Armscor 40 gr standard velocity ammo. A little slower than the Mini-mag stuff but still faster than the CCI standard velocity ammo. Probably not as reliable as the CCI standard velocity ammo but cheap enough that I can get in some good practice.
For my 10/22 I stick with the Mini-mag rounds for the reliability. Not much improvement versus the standard velocity ammo but also little difference in the "feel". Its also a lightweight gun at just under 4#. No comp on the long gun.
I've also included a lot of dry fire with both guns. As long as I keep it honest, the dry fire seems to smooth out my shooting while helping me with increased speed over live fire. Instead of 0.6 second first shots at the range, I can practice 0.40 to 0.49 second first shot in dry fire. Transitions in dry-fire and live fire are still about the same but I hope this too will improve.
If not already trying it, some dry-fire practice may help you get back into the groove. At 71, I also gave up shooting irons in favor of a good red dot sight.

After retiring from USPSA matches, I decided to finally give Steel Challenge a try. Going from PCCO Master to RFRO B was tougher than expected but with time became possible.
Decided to try RFPO late last year with an older MK 2 with a C-More slide ride. I enjoyed it but the gun was a little too heavy to do well. Moved up to a Mamba X with newly installed Holosun Competition. Gun runs good but I need to get a lot more practice. After first match I made C class but have my sights a bit higher.
Its fair to say Steel Challenge is a bit tougher than USPSA but in my case that may be a sign of age rather than a lack of skill.

I really like "Par". It's stupid-simple and has gigantic buttons so I can keep my phone on my gun belt and not have to fiddle with tiny buttons. Touch anywhere in the top 90% of the screen and it works.
For dryfire I wanted to switch from the laptop to my Apple watch. Turns out I really like this app.

Does anyone know if USPSA/SCSA publishes what percentage of first time members do not renew their membership?
Or how many members drop their memberships due to the price increase.

So if I quickly buy an AR pistol (don't currently own one) and file their paperwork for an SBR, what would be the waiting period to get approval from the Feds? And once approved, can I switch calibers legally (from .223 to 22LR)?

I use CCI Mini Mag solids in both my RFPO and RFRO (Ruger MKIII with some Volks stuff & a Ruger 10/22 Target Lite w/Aviom stock).
The rifle won't run CCI SV consistently, but my pistol will. I actually like SV better, but I've had QC issues with the first case I purchased.
They all fire, but from the sound only, not chrono data, some rounds have less powder. The typically will fail to extract. This mainly happens on cold days.
I'm about to try a couple of the Eley SV loads for functionality. I know the accuracy will be more than good enough.
FYI, I have comps on both guns, so I'm not worried about timers picking up the report.
Is the CCI SV problem ongoing? I'm suddenly having problems with my RFPO gun and CCI SV ammo. Like you, some of the rounds sound funny and appear to have less powder. The ammo was purchased directly from CCI within the past three months. Those rounds are causing stovepipes all too frequently. Last match I ended up with around 6 or 7 problem rounds in 3 stages. NOT ACCEPTABLE.
I'm also on the lookout for match ammo that is a lot more reliable.

Rimfire Rifle. I seem to recall a past clarification (by SCSA) that stowing/securing carbines in 3-gun style carts (and/or modified strollers) or 4 wheeled carts, was to be considered "cased".
I hope so. At our local Steel Challenge matches probably 9 out of 10 competitors are using carts.

I used one of these and cut the front 2 holes off.
Interesting. Any problems using this on a Mark II? After cutting two holes off, how many are still left on the mount and is it steady? Thanks.

I just started Steel Challenge RFPO several months ago. I've had good luck buying original Ruger Mark II magazines in the original blister pack. Average price is around $29 each with free shipping.
Shucks, I just noticed I failed to show where I bought the Ruger Mk II mags. Got'em from eBay.

Have you spoke with the suppressor company yet? They may be able to supply a thread protector that can keep the threads clean.

I had time so I also looked for your thumb rest without any success. What about purchasing the one for a Mark III or IV and having a local gunsmith adapt and mount it on your pistol? This would probably be quite pricey though.
Both are interesting options. So far I've not found anyone that has modified parts to fit. I'll try some more searching and see what I can find. Thanks.

On a MK II mag question, are any of the other generation mags compatible with the MK II ? I need a couple for steel challenge. MK II mags seem to be very scarce.
Thanks

Thanks herky but what I need is the little metal piece that mounts to the frame for my weak hand thumb (left hand). I have these on my open guns and hope it will help control the gun a bit.

Good evening folks. I've decided to take up Steel Challenge shooting to try to keep my very limited skills intact. Doing decent with RFRO but for RFPO I need some assistance finding a *thumb rest [generic]* for a Ruger Mark II. What I've found so far is parts for a Mark III and Mark IV, but no luck for the Mark II.
Any suggestions where to look?
Thank you.

I could always use another XD mag. Let me know how to proceed. Thank you.

Someone draft up a proposal for the change and either send it to your Area director or to me. That way my committee can do a formal review and make a recommendation to the full board.
Thank you Zack. Please PM me with contact information.
SCSA Classification Dilemma
in Steel Challenge
Posted · Edited by Flatland Shooter
I'm curious about what others say about this. I "retired" from USPSA back in 2019 due to medical issues and took up Steel Challenge to fill my "need for speed".
Not really concerned about classifications and I'm sticking to local Level 1 matches. I do want to excel and willing to take the time and effort to improve, but that's the limit.
