  1. Interesting article on training, placebo effect etc from the BBC website - enjoy http://www.bbc.com/future/article/20200501-the-performance-enhancing-trick-to-being-a-better-athlete that aside, I run 3 times a week and do push-ups and sit-ups every day but I still get tired during a match!! I'm a big fan of carbo loading the night before I do anything (from a day shooting to hiking). Biggest mistake I used to make during a match is not eating - energy gets depleted quickly!! Its why when we are half way through I start eating!
  2. Lightweight multi-day hiking shoes that are waterproof!! Aka anything with a Vibram sole. I think they strike a good balance between longevity on the gravel and weight (i.e. not too heavy) I use the Teva's, they fit my size 13 feet like a glove and I can wear em all day
  3. G19 for IWB (plan to buy a G43X with the aftermarket Shield arms 15 rounders) when the wife allows me to break curfew G19 for OWB when im wearing a baggy shirt G34 if im with the children and using the stroller. We have a pocket right by the handlebars that I attach the holster to - still 'concealed' Both have lights and always take a spare mag
  4. Have you tried using other guns to see if you have the same issue? Both my G34 and 19 shot left out the box but my sigs and CZs didn't... Can't rule out user error on my part either and I never bothered to find out why but as others have said - get a sight pusher and swap out the sights I use the MGW #309 GLK - old now, bought a long time ago so there may be better ones - but has worked great for me!
  5. Hi Op, Others have already said this - my view would be get a G34 or a CZ shadow 2. - Glock 34 - AKA plastic fantastic... cheap, easy to maintain, lots of "how to" video's, parts a plenty etc and you can always become a member of the GSSF and do the armorers course... good way to improve your learning. You mentioned you were not a fan of Glock triggers, I ended up putting in a Vanek custom trigger in mine (think it was the GM??) and swapped out the sights, still not a 1911 trigger but good enough for competition. I have put 1,000s of rounds through my G34 and never had an issue- its like a Toyota! Word of warning, once you add sights, trigger jobs etc, the price can get up there!! - CZ Shadow 2 - I loved the SP-01 - better out the box than a Glock (just my opinion) but will blow your budget. If you can get the funds, based on the SP-01 it might be hard to beat. Whenever I shot my friends Shadows I was always envious. Shot really well and it felt like all the top production shooters at the time had shadows - G17 - Honorable mention - seen plenty a A/B grade shooters do very well (much better than me!!) with a 17 and just a -2 disconnector (and swapping out the front sight as the factory one looks as big as a dinner plate once you shoot distance). The reason this gets an honorable mention is that when you add up the firearm, belt, holster, mag pouches, ear-pro, eyes, spare mags, range bag, staple gun etc etc, you will chew through your budget in no time and might be glad you have an extra 200usd in your pocket. Warning I started with a 17 then went to a 34, so this advice may not be the best - buy once cry once In all honesty, I agree with the comments above, any of the striker fired pistols will do the job. Albeit 8 years ago, when I was shooting competition, the majority of production shooters at the time shot either a CZ or a Glock in 9mm. Not sure if this is still the case but others can comment if this has changed any. If it hasn't - it says a lot My advice - Once Covid has subsided, if they carry the models I would go to an indoor range and shoot all of them back to back. choose which feels best in YOUR hand Good luck
  6. Hi all, Have been lurking for a while so decided to join the forum and say hi! I'm sure I will be an awesome resource for "what not to do" and "how to do it wrong"... Was a reloader and competitor about 8 years ago. Have decided to get back into reloading because I can't buy any factory ammo and want to get back into competition (thinking of trying out South River Gun Club for 3 gun and USPSA) once GA starts up again and more importantly I can get a haircut because I look like a yeti (no - not the cooler)!! Anyway, being at home is not good for my wallet but great for Dillon, Hodgdon, Frankford Arsenal, Precision Delta etc etc etc. Big shout out to all the contributors on this forum - has helped with all my buying decision and load data etc, so happy to pay it forward as someone who might as well be completely new and, what its like coming into this from a noob perspective, folks can read my posts and then just do the complete opposite!!! thanks Dave
