  1. While I agree that USPSA is a small subset of the gun community, I have to ask the question did USPSA give up on Irons or did the membership participating in USPSA? USPSA has NOT deleted any Iron Sight divisions.
  2. His specific PCC most likely has a pin and welded comp or a shrouded shorter barrel which would not accept any sort of flash hider being a GMR15. A barrel change is most likely required to fit any sort of suppressor to a GMR15.
  3. I am much happier with the 25 yd zero. More confidence when shooting out past 25 yds as rare as it may be. Nice groups. Much better than mine.
  4. I would not think so in that there is no discoloration when the whole gun is purchased new. They install the barrels the same way before they are sold to the public.

Taking the spring out and keeping the Redding Micrometer seating die clean is important for consistent OAL with that seating die. Also it depends on the bullets you use. I see a lot more variance with coated bullets than JHP/FMJ bullets.
  6. Understand that the JP barrels is a Thermo-fit barrel. Meaning that heat is used to remove and install barrels into the upper receiver. You will need to heat the upper receiver to remove the old barrel and install the new barrel.
  7. For the original question, you cannot go wrong with either. Some say Atlas if overpriced. I think that depends on who is buying and what they want. For me, while Atlas guns are expensive, I have had nothing but good luck with the two Atlas guns I own. Mind you I have a very limited round count on the second one, but it functions just as well as the first, and I have not had any issues running the first one. I think Atlas now offers something a bit different with their Alpha grip system. The guns have been worth every penny in my eyes. It would seem that I am not the only one in that the wait time for an Atlas Athena has gone from from 3 month to 9 months the last I heard. What I do like about the 2011 market is there now seems to be an option at a lot of different price ranges. This allows all kinds of different budgets to get into the 2011 game. I think that is a win for everyone. To answer the question, be honest with your budget, and buy accordingly. Is one gun enough or do you feel you need a backup gun as well? How many mags do you think you need? What does your ammo budget look like? I honestly think the question answers itself once one is honest with their budget.
  8. I agree, in that I at least do a field strip and wipe down any residue I can between sessions. I use a similar cleaning cycle now that I have some time on the 2011 platform but I wipe down everything I can during the field strip. I use N320 and Sport Pistol and those powders are so clean that I barely get any residue after shooting one match or practice session. I field strip the gun(s), wipe off the limited amount of powder residue after each match/practice session. I see next to no wear on any of the components. I monitor Extractor tension with each field strip and address it if I think there is any issue, which there has not been to date. As far as a complete tear down, I cannot see how doing this more often than 2000-3000 rounds makes any sense. There is a caveat to this if I attend a match or practice where sand is blowing around, or if something happens to the gun which introduces sand/dirt into the gun. Wind, or going prone which kicked sand into the gun comes to mind. Once I figure out and implement a system of care for guns and magazines as well as ammo loads for any of my firearms, I get next to zero malfunctions.
  9. This is the observation I made coming into the sport 4-5 years ago. It was obvious by many factors that .40 S&W was on its way out. Many on this forum would have you believe that has nothing to do with Limited numbers slipping over the years. All LO is doing is putting that final nail in the coffin. People cry that creating these divisions is what is killing Limited? Is it? Or are people now switching to a division they probably would have shot all along for various reasons now those divisions exist? Most people have limited income, and never had a desire to shoot open or Limited. They tried to figure out a division they would best fit into for what they wanted from the game, period. Now that there are more options, people are more free to shoot guns and play in divisions that interest them instead of being pigeon hold into some division. Is that a bad thing? Dudes crying about power divisions dying would lead you to believe that. I understand that power is one of the considerations given when USPSA was created. No one is stopping anyone from shooting Major today. Just as no one is stopping anyone from shooting revolver or single stack. What has become very apparent is that most of the masses could care less about power. Sorry the divisions you love no one wants to play in, but there are a lot of revolver and single stack guys to cry into your beer with.
  10. I think this might be of use to some on the forum. New Garmin Xero C1 Pro Chrono seems like a great option compared to other Radar type chronographs on the market.
  11. Whatever you buy, do not skimp on bench thickness. I ended up buying an after market bench top, because the original bench top was too thin. I would send pics of my setup, but they don't make the bench anymore and using the legs from the original bench legs on the new top would not be economical.
  12. As an RO if you see an experienced shooter charge over to a specific target right after "If clear hammer down, Holster", command is given you tend to understand there might some drama at that specific target. As you said, he probably called a possible miss on that target. As one progresses as an RO you also start to see misses the shooter commits during their course of fire. Shooters pulling of a target too soon, super spicy split on long range targets, etc. I still don't assume anything, but you can definitely see why there might be a Mike on certain targets.
  13. One would think, but PCCs as you mentioned are an issue, and unless you see the shot timer register every shot, you cannot say for certain. Again you are in a place of not being 100% sure; therefore, you cannot make the call.
  14. I do not understand how this is even a discussion! As an RO if you did not witness the FTSA you cannot apply the penalty. There is zero room for creating a penalty if you did not witness the infraction, period.
  15. Depends on the ammo. I shoot bulk 55 gr PMC, Wolf Gold, S&B, and Hornady amongst others that do not come to mind all day long out to 400 yds no problem, as do many of the people I shoot with. You obviously need to do your due diligence to get your dope for the ammo you choose to use, but there is nothing wrong with 55gr in most conditions. When its windy, heavier ammo makes things a bit easier but its not required. Telling someone otherwise is not being honest. Buying more good cheap ammo and being able shoot more trumps buying less expensive ammo any day of the week at 400 yds and closer in my eyes. I would add 1 other thing to @kurtm list and that would be learn how to shoot in all kinds of compromised positions. In a match you will very rarely be shooting in a conventional position. I am not sure what kind of eye box his scope has, but eye position relative to the scope gets compromised in matches. Learning how to minimize this in various positions will go a long way into shooting at distance consistently.
  16. This is almost always stage designed dependent. Yes there are times when it is obvious a target was not shot at. There are some stages, especially memory stages where numerous targets can be engaged from numerous positions, it is damn near impossible for an RO to hand out that penalty. In any case you are at the whims of the RO being honest. I have been in situations on a stage where I get distracted by something the shooter did during the run, and there ends up being an un-shot target and I do not hand out the FTSA penalty because I cannot say for sure. Sometimes the scoring RO can catch it, but not every time. Like a 180 DQ, the RO should be 100% sure he witnessed the FTSA. There are some stages where the same target is missed by numerous shooters. Then it is easy for the RO to look out for that particular target to make sure future shooters engage that target. When I RO Level 2 and up stages where you usually officiating that stage for the entire match, I look at the stage for possible targets that can be missed. I am definitely making sure every shooter engages that "hidden" target.
  17. The only change to the gun was I have added an extended mag release to both. My ammo is running around the 130-135 PF range and I do not feel the gun needs any changes. Return to zero is pretty on point when shooting 0.14-0.16 spilts. I do not have super strong grip strength. I would say its average to slightly above average. If you have slower or super spicy splits I could see where someone might want to play around with recoil springs. I have kept the shock buff and will change them out on a regular interval. Seems like around 2500 rounds is where I am changing the shock buff out. You can definitely feel when they swell. I thought the disconnector was mucked up when the slide was dragging, but it was the shock buff. I know others that run steel grip Atlas guns without them, but I prefer to run them. I would buy extra mag springs and mags for that initial purchase to take advantage of the 10% discount. Recoil springs are relatively cheap in comparison. Over the next 8 months I found watching the maintenance videos that Altas puts out very helpful and they do feel they sell some tools that make working on the guns easier. You do not have to buy the tools through them as they tend to be a bit pricy, but some of them are worth it in my eyes. Atlas will allow you to add stuff to the order to take advantage of that discount as well. Something to keep in mind.
  18. In the beginning I don't think it slows development too much, but as you progress, I think it will slow development. If you are serious about classification pick a gun and shoot it. As @Racinready300ex mentioned and I agree, from personnel experience jumping from platform to platform has slowed my development. If you are just playing for fun, shoot what you want to shoot.
  19. I have been reading about some of the shooting challenges in that latest nationals on this forum and was thinking the exact same thing. Curious for certain.
  20. I emailed Berry's about the max velocity on the 100gr plated bullets. They indicated they are in the process of updating the max velocity of this bullet from 1250 fps to 1300 fps. The email thread stemmed from questions I had about the ammo that Super Vel created using that bullets traveling at 1300 fps dedicated for a PCC load, when their website indicated that the max velocity was 1250 fps. They also indicated that Max misspoke in the Super Vel video introducing that "Blitz" PCC ammo that the 100 gr bullets used for the Super Vel ammo was thick plated bullets at 100 gr which it is not. If they truly update the velocity I do not know. They have not done so to my knowledge.
  21. Stand on the back corners of the fault line and bend at the knees to get low. Also, understanding height over bore for the optic for your particular firearm. Meaning you can typically aim outside of the A zone with the dot and still get A Zone hits, thus increasing distance from your muzzle to the edge of the barricade preventing the bullets from hitting the barricade. You will have to test this at different target ranges to completely understand your offset. People tend to skip shots off the barricade because they either forget about height over bore offset, or the do not understand it. No matter what you choose to do you will have to work at it in practice to resolve the issue. Good luck.
  22. I would go with what @HesedTech said. I am not too impressed with the CP2000 price point. It does not come with dies or a trimmer, cutting dies, etc. It does not come with anything really. I just make switching between processing and loading on the Automated 1050 by including the switch with normal maintenance cycles. I tend to get between 5000-10000 rounds depending on what I am doing on the press between maintenance cycles. I also know that many people say you do not need to swage pistol cartridges, but I have ran into my fair share of crimped 9mm brass to swage both pistol and rifle brass.
