  1. I'm using PD 124 JHP V2's now in my Checkmate, I reamed my barrel and can load out to 1.168 but I'm using 1.160 OAL. Currently running 6.2 gr of CFE which is 155 PF for my local ppc match, but will load 6.7 for USPSA PF. Accuracy is great and dot tracks like I want it to. There was a sale on V1 a couple of weeks ago but I decided I'll stick with V2's.

One thing I've learned about reloading is that if you talk to ten different reloaders you will hear about ten different ways to get from point A to point B.

And that is not figuratively either. It'll will be ten different ways. And they all work. More or less...lol...

True if you ask 10 people you may get 10 different answers, they may all be correct, pick one that works best for you and don't worry about how other people do it. I have what works for me and sticking with it.

Terminal performance was not a consideration when designing the new PD JHP.

It was designed to be a competitive/recreational JHP, and will most likely exhibit no favorable terminal characteristics when fired into ballistic gel.

Copper prices continue to head north, and availability is abysmal. Lead is as high as we've seen it in a long time, and availability is tough for some companies. I can tell you that some companies that do not have the ability to pour their own billets or extrude their own wire are having to search for material.  Shipping costs continue to tick upward too.  I say all that to say, I don't think you'll see prices coming back down anytime soon (although I don't have a crystal ball).

Anywho... Since pricing is being discussed.... How does a sale on PD 124JHPs for next 24-48 hours sound? It won't be advertised anywhere else, just here. Thanks to those that use PD products.  ;)

Hey Steve, I tested the V2's and will be sticking with them for the matches. No difference in accuracy with my guns and I'm loading them at 1.140". I did some post and updated my spreadsheet with the data. Thank you for making quality bullets at good prices. Highly recommend Precision Delta Bullets.

  4. I shot a match yesterday with 124 V2's in my CZ TSO and My Ruger PCC. OAL was 1.140 and they functioned flawlessly. Took 1st with TSO and 3rd with PCC, this is only the second time I shot my PCC last match I shot it was two years ago. I bought 4K V2's  and shot 1K so far in the past month. I've shot over 50K V1's and I'm sticking with V2's. At 25 yards the accuracy is the same, haven't tested to 50 yards since I don't shoot bullseye competition and not wasting primers right now.

  5. I did a test with the V2’s the other day in my TSO at different OAL’s and 1.140 was most accurate. Tried 1.130, 1.125, 1.120, 1.110 and 1.100. Didn’t notice any difference in accuracy over the v1. Used my ransom rest to test at 25 yards. I benched it at 10 yards and they all went in one hole with the TSO and my M&P Core.

  6. In all of my years of testing OAL makes a huge difference in accuracy depending on the bullet. For example PD 124JHP is loaded to 1.100 in PD's match ammo. In my reloads I started at 1.120 and worked my way down to 1.060 and found in my guns the best accuracy for me was achieved at 1.080 with that bullet. If you look at my spreadsheet there is all kinds of data you can look at concerning my testing of OAL. Now that I'm back home after the flood from IDA, I will be testing some of PD's 124 JHP V2's. I bought 4K and will start at 1.140 to start with on that bullet. Will let y'all know how it turns out. Haven't had access to my reloading equip. in 7 months. Looking forward to being back at the range testing again.

I tried the v2s and found I got a wider OAL variation and less accuracy than with HAP and Zero JHPs.  Major PF load.  That said, they were still accurate enough for USPSA.

Does your seating die seat from the tip or the ogive? That makes a difference.

  8. Bayou bullets were never powder coated the polymer coating was propietary and came from Austrailia. Anyone wanted to use the coating had to buy it from Donnie, including all the manufacturers using the coating today. Donnie sold the chemical. business to Alan Esterly and they have to. buy from him. So yes  Bayou is the original polymer coated bullet.

  9. I found .358" Bayou 160 gr was more accurate in my 929. I had issues with accuracy and was pissed until I went back in my logs from 30 years ago and found that on a revolver you go .001"over the cylinder diameter to get more accuracy no mater the barrel's bore diameter. ( This is old school revolver experts from the past) I found that they shoot great in my CZ's and STI DVC. You have to bell the mouth more as to not shave the coating off while seating and use minimum crimp. Very soft shooting and in my 929 out of my ransom rest I went from a best of 2.75" 10 shot group down to 1.09" at 25yds. Also my reason for going to a heavier bullet is the 929 has a twist rate of 1:10  instead of 1:16 which mean it will shoot a heavier bullet more accurately. ( I found that out when testing my Colt 1:12 twist to my S&W 1:18.75 twist with 125 and 158 gr bullets. the Colt shot the heavy bullet more accurate than the S&W and the S&W shot the lighter bullet more accurate than the Colt. )

  10. Sport Pistol will be my TG replacement once I run out of TG. In my testing it has performs as good as TG and is cleaner. Vectan BA 9.5 is closer to N320 but there is no US distributor currently since Graf's gave up their distributorship. I received 36# of BR-5 from GIBrass recently and currently working up load for it. It is closer to Power Pistol than Unique in burn rate in my testing and has to be loaded to a higher power factor if you looking for accuracy. In my 124 gr JHP my normal 130-132 pf has to be loaded to 138-140 to be as accurate. Still leaves some yellow unburned powder residue though.

  11. Bayou Bullets is local to me. They had issues with casting machines and not having reliable employee's. They are cranking out bullets as fast as they can. Most of the machines are up and running now, but they really need a couple of more to keep up with demand. Bayou's are a great bullet and is the original coated bullet and I noticed that some of the coated bullet offering from other manufacturers are not the quality you get from Bayou. DG bullets and Brazos Bullets are two of the top I recommend. The sudden surge since Covid  has impacted orders from everyone, primers being the hardest component to get right now, and prices have more than doubled on primers.

  12. I tested Precision Delta 124 JHP's today with the BR-5 powder I got in (36#) and was very impressed. Best group 10 shots ransom rest 25 yd in CZ TSO 1.09". 5.4 gr powder 1.100 OAL, CCI primer and Winchester cases. .378 crimp. Power factor 138 avg vel 1114 fps. I will upload a new revision of my spreadsheet next week after I test to other bullets 124 FMJ, 115 coated, 135 coated, and 147 FMJ and coated. Then work on .40 and .45.

I see that you have the dr920.   I’ve been thinking about the x5 for carry optics as I see you have it listed.  I have a 320 full size and it’s not very accurate but has a nice point of aim.  The mr920 8 have has good accuracy but not as natural of a point of aim IMO.  I have not shot the dr 920.   I see a lot about the inaccuracy of the legion.   I was thinking about the dr920 as unposed to the legion for Uspsa carry optics.    Any opinions on that dr as opposed to the legion?  Thanks ahead of time.

The DR920 with the flat backstrap points good for me, for carry optic I can use my DR, P320 x5, or my Ed Brown M&P. The DR is more accurate than the other two. In carry optics during the match I don't think the accuracy difference matters that much it's more what trigger you prefer. I prefer my M&P trigger but can shoot the DR just as well.

At a certain level nothing we tell you matters and it is entirely your components, your press, your barrel and your chronograph.

If starting from scratch with previously unused components and gun I

    • set overall length off of what the barrel tells me, aka plunk and spin. this way my seating die is set.
    • set crimp off bullet diameter and case wall thickness. this way my crimp die is set.
    • going in 0.1 grain increments I make 20 rounds at my length and crimp from the previous sets. usually over a total of 4 to 5 steps, like 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 and so on.
    • I shoot these over the chrono and check all of that data and pick one charge weight.
    • with all of that data I make 100 rounds of this ammo and shoot it for function and accuracy from 3 yards to 30 yards.
    • if that all works out I write it all down in my load book, make notes of the settings on my press and go into production. if it doesn't work then  I start adjusting from step one and go forward.

I do almost the same. I have an OAL tester  I made with Hornady OAL tool, I back off .015 and start from there. I look at max charge and subtract 10% and start there in .2 gr. My crimp is set at .378-.379. Once I chrono and accuracy test with my ransom rest, I take the most accurate one and start decreasing my OAL by .010, load 10 each at that powder charge and see if standard deviation and accuracy improves. ( i.e. Precision Delta loads their 124 JHP at 1.100, I found that that bullet is more accurate at 1.085 and that's what I use. Go look at my spreadsheet, I have OAL for different bullets in my guns and loads for the Shadow, Accu-shadow, and TS Orange.

A plunk checker is almost useless with my CZ SP01 Shadow.   When I load any new "bullet" I pull the barrel out and make up a test round and drop it in the barrel, but the true test is getting it out!   When pulling it out if it resists at all that's a problem.  The ACME 125gr is a good example, I loaded 1,000's at 1.135 shot them in Glocks, my Carry gun Kahr PM9, PCC, Sig P226, etc.  I take the CZ to range and shoot a 100 work good.  I go to a match, and its all good till unload and show clear, I can't open the slide.  Not every round is like that that small variance in the bullet and the OAL made a few too snug, my barrel plunking said 1.130 would cure the issue.   ARMSCOR 125 FMJ,  no problem at 1.150.  By the way really like the Acme bullets, but my latest supply is Monkey Brass Bullets 125gr and those had to go to 1.120 for the CZ.  Like you I'm a fan of N320, but have a lot of WST and RedDot.

I took cases for 9mm, .40, and .45 and drilled and tapped them to use the Hornady OAL tester. Works great the way I do it. I use my CZ barrels to test with because they have the shortest lead of all my guns, if my load is accurate in the CZ's they are accurate in the others. Once I find the OAL to rifling I back of .015 or so depending on bullet ogive and magazine and work up my charge in .2gr increments. Once I find the most accurate load I start working the OAL down in .010" increments to see if accuracy improves. That's how I came up with my accuracy loads. For matches I load to a 130-135 power factor.

  16. The Zero 147 JHP at 1.100 (3.2 gr Tightgroup) will work great in your CZ's, the Acme will have to be plunk tested. My Bayou/Brazos 147 TC's are loaded to 1.130. I shot the Nationals with a CZ Shadow years ago when only three of us used CZ's. Now to be competitive in Production the CZ platform dominates. I have the Accu-Shadow for production and use a TS orange for local PPC matches. This year I'm dedicating myself to Carry Optics Division and shooting a P320 X5 Legion, or a Shadow Systems DR920. I currently shoot the DR920 better. Good luck to you. Check out my spreadsheet on this forum and it may give you some help picking a load.

  17. Just heard today that Graf's won't be the US distributor for Vectan Powders anymore. Hoping someone else decides to be a distributor because I love BA 9 1/2. I was told if you want to be a distributor your are required to buy a minimum of 35K pounds,
