  1. The X'perf comes with curved back strap grips. Standard 92/96 grips do not fit due to the frame mounted safety. The standard mags for a 96 is 11 rounds (or add a +1 BP) so if you convert it you're stuck there unless you can find Mec Gar 15 round .40 mags.

  3. Conventional wisdom says polygonal rifling and lead bullets are a no-no... K'boom. The debate goes on about it's validity but no stinking petty bullet is worth the risk when I can (and do) powder coat them. YMMV

  5. Well, yes and no. Any 96D slide is inexpensively "modded" to fit the 92X, all it needs is to have the left side of the slide cut for the safety paddle. A 96D Brig slide can have Beretta front and rear adj sights installed also.
  6. Maybe a Witness Match? With a base pad the .45 mag will do 11-12 rds. I have one in 9, it's a GR8 pistol.
  7. Have you changed the LOA or bullet style recently?
  8. You don't use a gas check at high velocities? Do you have to coat twice?
  9. I have two 550's (pistol cartridges) and an old unconverted 450 (for .308's) and never saw a reason to upgrade to anything else. I wouldn't mind having another 550, that said, keep it, you'll likely be sorry if you sell it.
  10. I boiled off all of the waxy lube on my 9's and .40's I had stashed and powder coated them. A few bullets are not worth the risk.
  11. Yeah it does, I bought a "sampler pack" of pc paint and wanted to see how well they covered before I bought it by the pound. I am glad I did only 3 of the colors gave excellent coverage the rest I use to mix.
  12. Given the component shortage and the fact that I can make all the bullets I will ever need, casting makes more sense for me. I stopped casting because tmj plated and fmj were plentiful and cast / wax lubed were smoky and I did not like handling them. Shooting Tanfos with polygonal rifling also made lead a no-no Now that I am powder coating all of the issues with shortages and using lead are gone. If the shortages go away I doubt I will ever buy bullets again.
  13. What you can do is check Ebay and or Amazon for used frame / slide part kits, they may not need fitting, and can be tested before putting them into match service.
  14. While I still cast my own, I use a lead rated respirator, wear gloves to handle and nowadays I powder coat them. I haven't been tested in a long time but, I guess I should ask for the lead test at my next physical. Thx all for the reminder.
  15. I've been there... worked hard enough for wifey to regularly complain, and have taken breaks from shooting. Some short as well as long, some from self induced pressure (International skeet, was a biggie there) issues and others club politics issues. Like Konkapot said, I had thought shooting sports had run their course. After a break I've been refreshed, and I now play my own game and put more of the "P" (from IPSC and USPSA) in shooting for a while. Instead of focusing on one discipline I've re-focused for some CO, single stack, limited, open and maybe even IDPA. Ammo supply does not allow all of that so I'll be mixing it up from now on.
  16. The OEM butt pads can work with mods, but I bought new +2 ( actually fit one more comfortably) pads from a seller on Ebay and stock Tanfo mags work fine.
  17. I do not know if "assembling" counts as building, but I've converted my Limited custom (.40) and Limited Pro (9mm) for open. Both slides interchange with the two frames. If I could find a Tanfo frame dot mount I'll be happier. Oh, that's not a Docter, just the scope cover.
  18. Coated if you can find them in a weight type you want is the ticket. If not it's guaranteed you'll have bullets if you cast and coat your own.
  19. If manufacturers of finished ammo are "cashing in" on the feeding frenzy then the components go to their assembly lines.
  20. I got two Tanfo OEM magwells for my frames and a couple of spares just in case I needed them later on, maybe I depleted his stock. EAA does not seem to be bringing them in any more, it's weird. They do not have scope mounts either.
  21. For the time bring I went with the slide mount, so my 9 and .40 uppers have dots.
  22. Same here. I cast my own and have sized my 150 LRN to .355 for every 9mm I ever had. I have a .356 die for my Star lubri-sizer but used it for supers. Nowadays I'm powder coating everything from 9 to 40 and .45 and have yet to run a lot of rounds downrange but I'm suspecting little change from my cast/wax lubed bullets.
  23. I don't know why, but MANY of the orders I place have bounced between states like a ping pong ball. I have even seen several occasions where stuff was sent from Miami, to my local post office, to Fort Lauderdale, back to Miami, then to my local post office and delayed another day. Once a package went from (ground) Oregon to Jacksonville and then retraced its steps BACK to Oregon. I'm thinking... 1. USPS has hired dyslexic employees who will not use the scanners. 2. The programmers protesting by playing with scan code destinations 3. Somehow due to COVID they're getting bonuses for handling packages as many times as they can. 4. They're throwing packages in "Nixie" bins to avoid delivering it. 5. The aliens from MIB are now REALLY working there and have need of more training Add to this "shipping partners" are holding packages for days before the USPS sees them.
  24. Well... I recently needed to deal with them and they did not return two calls, after a couple of weeks I wrote Tanfoglio in Italy, I received a call the next day and I got what I needed. There are reasons that IFG, Patriot Defense, Ben Stoeger, J&L, and Henning are in the mix now. It's a good thing too I REALLY like my Tanfo pistols to the exclusion of the rest of the brands that I own.
  25. As of now, my X'perf is back on the way to Beretta for the second time. After getting it back (was there 4 months) it functioned perfectly for around 200 rounds (Winchester white box) and upon taking it home to clean it, the slide would not come off... again... but this time it took a wood dowel under the rear sight blade and a rubber mallet to get it off. And NO this has NOTHING to do with "tight tolerances of a competition gun" as has been suggested, that is unless these tight tolerances are expected to change and get tighter as it's used Anyway, I found the issue. Inside the frame just under the front most portion where the rail ends, the metal has "closed" sufficiently to keep the locking block (and a half dozen other LB's and barrels I have) from moving forward of the points in the pic below. The LB stops dead in it's track right where a spare LB is in the pic. Curious that Beretta claimed the take down latch was the cause, but on both sides where the red arrows are there are distinct marks which look like either a file or dremel was taken to relieve it. At this point I suspect a hardening issue, and I hope they replace the frame.
