  1. Nope. I haven't shot USPSA/IPSC since the 80s. I'm likely never going to be serious about it again but who knows.
  2. I've shot large tube LED dots before but they're nothing like the current generation. Yesterday was my first time at the range with a micro dot and other than needing more training for the slow first sight picture acquisition I'm impressed. Funny my eyes are still 20-30 without any type of astigmatism, or near/far sighted issues but the dot comes to the POA much faster. My 25-30 ft slow fire groups are better (most all touching) with the dot as opposed to iron sights, and rapid fire is substantially better. I just may get one for more another Tanfo.
  3. Ha ha... one less doohickey to deal with?
  4. Leaper dots are lifetime also. They're not for airguns any more.
  5. In all of the Colt, Essex (not ramped barrels) Springfield Loaded Target (factory ramped) and Colt (aftermarket bbl ramped) my Colt and metalform mags never failed to feed. I know nothing about RIA but does yours have a ramped bbl?
  6. So everyone who bought one to evaluate for competition and decided it's not their cup o tea should have their opinion disregarded? With that logic even shooting stars and gun mag reviewers who no longer or never did compete those opinions are worthless. You're right, there's a lot to like about it, but we'll see if shooters use it. Anyone in So.Flo who would like to test drive mine, PM me, bring your ammo and buckazoids for local range time and I'll let you have a tryout, can't beat that !
  7. I am finding this to be true.
  8. Well, with a little bit of photo shop, it may look like this, I borrowed kneelingatlas' pic I hope you do not mind?
  9. I just installed an EGW mount with 4MOA red dot and on the first sight picture sometimes I have to hunt for the dot, all subsequent shots are spot on. I've used larger tube type dots and have had no problem like this. Is it something you just have to get used to by drawing often?
  10. Pippu, funny you should mention the Beretta Ghost. I have two a 92 and 96 Brig and I thought about them both when putting this one together. Chubbs, I have an older Tanfo 10mm compact and I discovered that the older base pads can be modified to work with the magwell and still work for the standard frame. They take about 20 minutes with a Dremel to mod. I'll get some proper pads at some point but putting this together made me able to push that expenditure out a few months. Pic below.
  11. Anyone here ever heard the Johnny Cash song "One piece at a time" The story goes he was a worker at the Cadillac factory and wanted a Caddy so bad and could not afford one, so over the years he stole a part here and there and with a mish mash of parts he built his own caddy. Well, I wouldn't steal stuff and couldn't afford / justify a Tanfo Gold Team, so rather than set my aspirations on open division I thought I'd take the less costly route and I'd go limited and got a new Limited Custom in .40. I figured with the LC I could build the equivalent of the GT over time, or if the finance stars aligned I could buy the real deal. First I found the magwell... no easy task nowadays, they seemed scarcer than hen's teeth. Later on I saw the GT grips at EAA on sale... getting close, maybe I wouldn't have to spring for a whole GT if I found an upper. Then one day, WOW I stumbled onto a NIB complete V12 slide. In the end, I didn't save a bunch of bucks maybe $200 +/- but I'm able to shoot two divisions with the same frame. If I had held out for a GT I'd only be able to shoot one division! The .38 super slide from my Lim pro also fits the frame but I'll not be starting up with super again any time soon.
  12. Wow! So m,any ways to do it right, or wrong as it happens. ALWAYS use known ammo from a known good batch and plunk them all!
  13. I'm in South Florida, can't get much further south than this But the local club hasn't posted matches since the COVID shutdowns started. Any South Florida Pistol Club shooters in here who can confirm any upcoming match dates?
  14. No too rich for my blood, If I had a Domina I wouldn't have started this thread! Right now I have a Limited Custom with a V-12 on top. Given that the V12 has had some dicey past, I'll be shooting minor till I can upgrade
  15. Thanks all, your points all make sense. It's been quite a while since I shot and as soon as COVID restrictions open up sports I'll be shooting again. Oh, the "Lord have mercy" type comments add more heat than light to a conversation than is necessary.
  16. I get the "C" issue, and winning or losing. I've never been above "B" shooting major (did very well as a high B and actually was accused of sandbagging to win "B" which was not true, I just plateaued with a single stack .45 ) but I'm guessing the bulk of shooters are in B or C and may do as well or better shooting minor. So maybe I should have said, why the focus on major for shooters in B/C class who may get better scores with an easier to handle minor gun?
  17. I've never used anything but oil, never broke a gun yet. When I shot "up north" in snow, I lubed with Break free mixed 50/50/ - 60/40 with marvel's mystery oil. Since Tri-Flow is so thin, I'd probably (shudder to think of it) try it in cold weather.
  18. I'm not by any stretch a new shooter, but I am just getting back into USPSA (mostly open and limited) and I'm wondering why so much focus on major 9? Granted a match win or shooter class upgrade in qualifiers can be made with just one point but isn't lower recoil of a lower power minor 9 going to be faster and easier to score more A's?
  19. I took the V12 on my Limited Custom frame to the range today, no sights, but just looking down the barrel I had no problem staying in the center of my paper 2/3 size bowling pin target at 25'. The concussive effect from the comp was very disconcerting to shooters all around me though! Gads, I haven't owned a comped gun since the 80's, I forgot the effect they have on peeps nearby. Anyway, For the time being I decided to get an EGW Docter/Fastfire/Venom sight mount until I can find a frame mount.
  20. I read that Beretta had planned a full out "race" version (actually three XP models total including the first model we already have now showing up in stores) of the X'perf but with their shutdown and other problems with the current model have put everything in the air. A DWX might be a better new release to bet on If I had the opportunity to shoot my X'perf alongside my side my Tanfo Limited Pro I'd not have bought the Beretta. It seems as if EVERY reviewer is a sycophant on Beretta's teat that can find nothing odd about the X. Nice gun, but not now or ever gonna be a race gun, IMO.
  21. Thanks Mike, that helps. I'm not concerned about shooting and staying with a specific mount it's only that if / when a maker turns out unreliable, decides to change their "standard" mount, stop making an optic, or goes out of business completely. I'd like the flexibility to move to another maker. I've looked for a frame mount, but all but weaver seem to be unavailable. Any ideas on a source that has stock for Tanfo?
  22. Q? Are you a new trap shooter and using an open choke like Mod? Or, are you using a tighter constriction? I ask because If you check POI at likely trap bird distances of 40' with a tight choke (whether you're shooting / using a looser choke or not) I think you'd be well served.

    Fundamentals

I used to shoot with a guy that had the form of a cross between a crab and ninja warrior, cramped, feet splayed out but that dude shot REALLY well. When I first started skeet, I failed miserably at "sustained lead" dropping the muzzle, and stopping the swing. A fellow squad member suggested I try the swing through method and I almost instantly shot so much better never I looked back. This also helped a lot on International skeet (now my preferred game) where I had no problem chasing, timing and passing those quick little buggers.
  24. It sounds to me like it's not an issue unless you're shooting downhill Seriously, when you say "binding" is it stopping or slowing the slide?
  25. I recently acquired a complete V12 upper (minus sights) and I've read some less than wonderful things about the V12 but all were about making major with it which I have no interest in. I have no problem shooting minor. That said, to finish it I'm still on the fence on my options but, I'm not going the route of slide milling and whatever I get I'd like to not be locked into one brand optic mounting scheme. 1. A dovetail mount for an optic, but a slide racker is not possible with one so that's less than optimum. Its benefits are some can mount more than one optic brand, and they're relatively inexpensive 2. A frame mount will let me have a racker, but I''d like to find one that could accommodate any of these: Vortex, Fastfire or Docter. The problem here is the frame mounts are scarce to not available. Does anyone know of a frame optic mount that is flexible on what brand optic can be mounted?
