  1. This thread is a eye opener. .22 ammo too? Primers? Wow! I have many bricks of .22 and many thou of shotshell and rifle primers maybe I'll take them to the next gunshow and put a sign on my hat!
  2. I only will do a FTF transfer or with a verified FFL. No problems so far.
  3. Back in the day, I've shot 9mm 147 hard cast wax lubed bullets with an early (80's) "race" gun. The smoke from the wax was horrific which hung like a fog all over the wind less range It was like driving an old jalopy belching smoke down the road, everyone liked seeing my smoke trail though at times they couldn't see me or the RO! Coated bullets shouldn't smoke, it's more the wax and powder selection on cast bullets that make more smoke. I only shot graphite coated bullets in my old S&W 52 .38 WC and they ran so slow I didn't notice much smoke, but I don't know if graphite will be an option at 9x25 speeds. Anyway, I don't think coated 147's will be too heavy unless you get a ton more muzzle rise, you have nothing to lose but a bunch of brass, I say give it a go. What are you going to coat them with? I have a furnace and ton of hard lead alloy and if this bullet shortage continues I may start casting again and powder coat them for my .40's
  4. I had an old Beretta 96D Brigadier slide modded to work with my 92X Performance safety levers and had the tritium sights replaced with Beretta adjustable with a FO front. I used it for a while and liked the FO quite a bit at the indoor range I shoot at, and when the FO insert flew away I missed it a lot. So, I'll definitely replace it.
  5. I have lofty goals to be sure but I wind up doing dry fire practice twice a week, and live fire maybe once every other week down from 2-3x a week before the ammo buying panic started. It doesn't help that 9mm ammo has gotten silly expensive and components are not available (besides the fact I do not like loading 9's) because they are likely being sucked up by ammo makers to take advantage of the buying panic price increases. I'm waiting on using any of my stash / hoard .40 ammo and components until I can start / finish my Tanfo .40 open build then I'll be in good stead and be able to get up to speed when / if the county allows matches.
  6. Stoney, I visited that site and added up the cost... Not cheap but that stuff looks top notch.
  7. I know it's an older thread but... Reloading for me is enjoyable and generally not a chore at all except for in the summer when it's hot down here. In cooler weather I consider it a pastime so I load a LOT of ammo in the winter. Some friends of mine have claimed some very fast reload times to make ammo but they don't factor in primer flipping, tube loading, and initial press setup stuff and minor stoppages like changing out empty primer tubes, refilling powder measures, flipped primers, culling bad brass and refilling bullet trays in reload time, it's not just about pulling the handle or about burst mode production. Well that is with my two 550's and 450 anyway

  9. With so much imported cheap junk coming into the U.S. it's getting harder to find really well designed stuff, so when things I buy work and meet or exceed my expectations it's a pleasure buying even if the cost was a bit higher. I also like reading reviews on products before I buy, they support buying decisions.
  10. Thanks I wrote Eric-s site about the comp but doing business with EAA will be my last resort.
  11. I haven't shot a match yet with my GoPro but I fish and bike with a cap brim mount and a stretch head mount. But my cap has a velcro strap I can make tight the cap mount works best. On my crotch rocket I have a chest mount but it it too shaky. When competition starts back up I will use the cap mount.
  12. I carried a 92 Custom Carry on and off IWB (in front Mexican style) in a soft leather holster and I did not find it hard to conceal under a floppy t shirt and I'm not a big guy. The modern compacts with a rail literally rub me wrong IWB and OWB on me are too bulky to conceal.
  13. Does anyone know a smith that can install / make a comp for my LC coned 4 5/8" .40 barrel / slide?
  14. Such a shame about the .40 losing status. Maybe like me some shooters will see that shooting an unpopular caliber where reloading stuff is available (while the 9 is not) is better than not shooting at all. I must have 4k loaded and components to make a whole LOT more. I shelved all of my 9's for the foreseeable future and won't look to 9's for a while. Anyway, the Rem R1 is still available and about $1k, and modding a 10mm to .40 is pretty straightforward as is a 9mm frame with a .40 upper with minimal issues to deal with. Also, I KNOW the lure of a 1911, but why limit to 1911? Tanfoglio (from EAA and IFG but IFG has a small frame version EAA does not) is still very much in the .40 camp and withis $1k budget.
  15. Thanks all. I wish I'd known about ipscalex sooner... Now that I know where to find the frame mounts, I'll go there the next time. I wound up with the EGW, it was readily available and while the optic may not last as long it was just less pain.
  16. I just got their "Race" (+1) version in. It fit the Tanfo magwell, but I have to drill the basepad latch hole as the latch that came with the pad doesn't fit with the magwell. It fed all 18 rounds of 9mm... Even though the pads are a tight fit making a hole is a small price to pay for a +1 pad that needed minimal (free) no mods.
  17. Yeah, I got mine on Ebay. They were a bit hard to find but I used "pad tanfoglio" as a search string and found them.
  18. Being a pack rat, I buy cool stuff I stumble on "just in case" I need it. A while ago I scored a Beretta 96D Brigadier slide, and since getting the X-Perf I wanted the slide modded with a safety cut, and decent sights to replace the dinky nite sights the Brig came with. It came in today. I have a LOT of .40 cal ammo made up with brass, and bullets, something I do not have for 9mm (zero of either brass or bullets) so for the foreseeable future I'm switching over my shooting to the new 96 and Tanfos in .40. Next , I'll dump the serrated trigger and maybe have the rail ground off and refinished.
  19. Another Springfield Loaded Target user here, works excellent but I think it's more of a function of the ramped barrel than anything else. My Colts without ramped barrels were always finicky about mags and bullets.
  20. The ONLY handgun I had a problem with was a Charter Arms "Bulldog" in .44. Its indestructible "copper beryllium" firing pin shot itself at my TV screen. It took over a year for Charter to send me one. I've dry fired my Beretta pistols a lot and never had an issue.
  21. I STILL have my Competition Electronics Pro Timer I from the 80's, it still works, no bluetooth, no WiFi, no speech recognition... no app either.
  22. I have no affiliation with these folks but they are great to deal with. The maker is Armanov and while they do not fit the Tanfo magwell, or add 2 rounds (I got only one extra in) so far they do feed all 18 rounds without any issues or mods to the OEM Tanfo mags I tried it with. The mag with pad measure 5 3/16" so other than capacity issues will work for production and limited 10, other divisions and gun games also. That's cool with me because I really don't want to diddle with springs and followers and create a $90 +2 (which may or may not work) mag so for a $27 uplift ($24 if you buy 4+) I can live with +1. I'm never going to be a master shooter anyway an extra round to get +2 is not going to get me there Anyway, the pads are really classy looking (available in 5 colors and free shipping) and well made. The bottom has a sand paper type of coating, and they add that extra grip length for anyone with larger fingers. , Oh, they also make them for Glock, CZ, SIG, and 2011, maybe more.
  23. Boyt were but are no longer made in the U.S, and I do not think they still use brass zippers. When I bought my now "vintage" shotgun cases they were heavy canvas with brass furniture. Look for vintage Boyt cases they were the best made.
  24. I'm happy to see threads like this resurrected!
  25. Ha Ha, That's what I call forward thinking
