  1. The stages should be completely isolated from each other so that the timer doesn't pick up shots from the next stage and they can be reset safely unless you are using targets you can reset remotely like a plate rack with a cable. The targets on the ground appear to need to be reset by hand downrange. The stages will run slow and choke up for sure.
  2. I use a lighter spring on my 1911's. Just make sure that when the slide slams forward the firing pin leaves no mark on the primer. You want it strong enough to get the firing pin back quick enough so there is no drag marks on the primer from the firing pin either. Many industrial suppliers have springs you can use.
  3. In the picture the ejector looks very short. It may be broken off or been shortened causing the problem.. There should be a leg on the front side of it.
  4. Looks like the ejector isn't kicking the brass out until the end of the recoil cycle. Brownell's offers an extended version which will clear the port sooner. https://www.brownells.com/handgun-parts/action-parts/ejector-parts/ejectors/combat-45-extended-ejector-sku965000023-16396-46126.aspx
  5. Watch linebackers move in football. Lots of good tutorials.
  6. I went to the Nationals 2 years ago with 2 guys from my home club that usually beat me. I buried them after the first day because I went into match mode and did what i knew how to do instead of pushing like I do at club matches. Same at the Western Single Stack Championships this past February. 98% wins matches. 110% zeroes stages. LOL
  7. Had a load of fun at the match. The new format where we pre-loaded and made everyone hot before they came to the line seemed to not only save time but gave the match momentum and energy. I think people shot better and enjoyed the match more.
  8. At 67 I'm pretty beat up from old injuries of an adventurous misspent youth so the 2-gun division lets me participate somewhat comfortably. Placed 126th. CRO'd stage 10. Want to thank everyone for coming out. 2 and 3-gunners ain't scared of nuthin'.
  9. The cancellation of the Southwest Regional Steel Challenge has left this saturday 3/28/2020 open for the normally scheduled monthly Hosemasters Match at Rio Salado Sportsmans Club. Registration opens at 6:00 PM today 3/24/2020 on Practiscore. Please contact me, Mark Gardner, with any questions. mesa3gunner@gmail.com Squads will be limited to 10 people. Social distancing is advised. Gloves to handle the timer and I-pad will be provided.
  10. There are many surfaces that need to be square with each other when fitting the barrel. The receiver face, the threads, the 2 barrel flange surfaces that are clamped and the threads and inner surface of the retaining nut. If you cannot measure all of these to see if there is a problem in how they relate to each other then you should probably leave them alone. Way too much to go wrong. Get quality components and assemble them.
  11. I'm going to meet over 400 people this weekend as a CRO at the SMM3G. We'll take the usual precautions like we always do during flu season. No hugging, kissing or hand shaking.
  12. I'm a trained tracker and know that I needed to be trained to use my eyes to be an effective tracker. Same goes for any endeavor that your eyes play a significant role in.
  13. Okay. I'll go buy more toilet paper.
  14. From what I gather everyone will eventually be exposed to the covid-19 virus. Draconian measures to avoid it will only slow the spread. I'm 67 and will CRO stage 10 at the SMM3G in a week with people from everywhere (only the teams from the Marine Corps and Army have dropped out so far because they are forbidden to travel right now but I'm sure they would come too if they were allowed to). Live fearlessly my friends. DO NOT. I reapeat. DO NOT go out and buy more toilet paper!! LMAO!!
  15. The score pad doesn't require you to concentrate and constantly flip back and forth. I have come up in Single Stack lately. From 69% to 71%, 75%, 79% on the last classifiers. Came up a few percentage points overall at matches too.
  16. My first set of shooting glasses I got were made to the specifications of the "experts" opinions. Got migraines from them. I have since through some experimentation (read money for different lenses) found that I shoot best with lenses that are half my distance prescription in both eyes. This allows me to see both sights and the target well enough to shoot passably and be able to wear the glasses all day with no headaches. I got over the double vision thing by using a target focus and a ghost sight picture. I focus on the target and bring the sights to my eye. This helps also to track the sights and do quick transitions. I noticed that as I pressed the gun out and the sights came up into my peripheral vision I automatically aligned them without focusing on them and broke the trigger as they came on target. It also makes it easy to watch them rise and fall back to the target instead of following them with your eye. At least for me and I started doing this at 58 years old and shot into A class Production (nearly into master class) by age 62.
  17. Saccades are the type of eye movement used to move the fovea rapidly from one point of interest to another. The fovea is a small depression in the retina where visual acuity is highest. It has the most retinal cones (color vision daylight vision). Fixation is the period of time the eye spends on the target image processing the information. USPSA shooters use saccades to track the sights of our pistols. They are predictable and either verticle in sight tracking or horizontal in transitions. I recently got an android phone and text on it a moderate amount. It cause my eyes to move in rapid unpredictable patterns unlike sight tracking. I have also begun to study other people on their phones and noticed that they exhibit random unpredictable saccades while texting also.I watch their eyes after they've been on facebook and/or texting and they continue to exhibit random saccades for a period of time. Alot like people with ADHD who move the eyes too quickly when fixation is necessary. Unexplained Alpha Mike? I have since avoided the phone whenever possible and leave it in the car when shooting. Losing my ability to focus and track the sights is a bad thing. I wonder how many shooters are stuck in C and D class because of this? Then there's the question of shooting at night when the cones in the eye are useless and you must use the part of the retina with the rods (night vision). I've been training since moving my eyes vertically and horizontally from spot to spot to keep my ability to track the sights and avoid the phone like the plague at shoots. Putting spots left and right and up and down on the sides of the computer screen helps me ignore distractions as I shift my eyes. Just some thoughts.
  18. Prep the trigger on the way to the target. Start your trigger pull as soon as you clear the holster, obtain your grip and the muzzle is pointing downrange. Practice it in dry fire so that by the time you get to the target it's ready to fire.
  19. I was at this match in question the WSSSC and this issue was addressed in Front Sight magazine a month or so ago. The gist of it was that when designing stages be sure that your props be it a wall to shoot over or a barricade to lean out from can be shot by a 4 foot tall 12 year old shooter. Besides that it was a very good match. What impressed me most was how the staff handled the horrible rainy weather and mud with no complaints and kept a positive demeanor. This crew has my utmost respect and I have volunteered to help next year even though it's a 5 hour drive. You do not find folks like this very often and I believe this club will excell. God bless these guys and gals.
  20. Walther Q5 match or PPQ Q5 match depending on your budget. They have smaller grips.
  21. I never do it to throw anyone off their game. I walk it whichever way it flows best. I usually shoot it backwards probably because I'm left handed (I shoot right handed because I'm right eye dominant) and it seems natural.
  22. I shoot Single Stack with a Springfield Armory Loaded in 45 ACP, 3-gun with a CZ Phantom, and carry a SIG 238. When I travel I take the same iron sighted AR that sits in the corner near my side of the bed. A handgun is just something you always have with you and the small 238 fits that bill.
