  1. yea I noticed I stripped out that mag on the second part in the vid, I dont remember doing it or why... but I dont do it usualy. And I was planning to shoot the classifier L to R, L to R, for some reason, but my body position was better to shoot the last string R to L so I switched my plan mid way though, not the best idea.
  2. Thanks for all the comments guys! Big, I'll try to make it out to titusville this weekend, I didn't go last time because the weather was crummy and I had a late friday. If I go ill PM you and Dirty so I can watch you guys shoot = ) XRe, Definatly. Im still deciding if I will keep competing with my USP 40, or mabie get somthing new that fits better into one class or another. If I do, CR speed makes a holster for the USP and there belt looks great. I will probably invest in that if I stick to L10. And yea, no more mags in the pouch after completing the CoF. = )
  3. ahh yea, sorry I forgot to say, we didnt film the first round, guess that was a good thing lol.
  4. Shot my second match last Saturday. Had a blast, of course, but ran into a number of problems probably typical for a 2nd time shooter. The best thing I have found for seeing mistakes is video, so I had my dad tape this time out. First stage: Honestly one of the hardest stages I have seen. You start behind 2 big barrels stacked end on end about 2 feet in front of you(have to pull gun in to cross from side to side, this is the only firing position. If i remember right, visible to the left is 3 papers from probably 5-7 yds, Visible to the right are 2 targets arranged around no shoots. Then, theres a texas star at 10 yards, obscured by the barrels so you have to lean around to see it. NOW heres the kicker. You have to egage 1 paper first, then 1 plate on the star, one paper, one plate, one paper, one plate and so on. That star is 'a movin by the time you get done. A hard stage indeed, but I managed to blow it even more. I was 2nd up on the list, and this was the first stage I had to shoot. 2 reloads from slide lock because I lost count because of misses on the star. Overall a bad first stage, luckily there was a very fun stage up next, and I didn't let the first blown stage influence the rest of the day. What I learned? This one was all in my head, starting off on such a hard course of fire threw me off. 2nd stage: Quick moving and shooting stage, at close range. Should have done great on it, would have done great on it. IF I didnt pull the classic stuff a half empty mag in your pouch trick. I even checked my mags before the round, obviously not close enough. I lost time, because instead of dumping the mag and reloading, I assumed it was a jam and went to clear it, it took me a second to realize the stupid mistake. Finaly I dumped it reloaded and finished up ok. What I learned? Used mags go in pocket! and double check before the stage. 3rd stage: Pretty straightforward moving and shooting at medium range. This was my most error free stage, however my confidence was a bit shot, so I slowed down, a bit to much even. A lazy mag change and slow first shots brought my score down. But no mistakes, no big deal. 4th stage: Was a blast. Moving and shooting from close to long range through windows. Started with hands touching 4x4 etc. I got so cought up in the starting position I didnt get my grip right and got the safety off late. Also, I rushed on the poppers at the end. Other than that pretty good. What I learned? Grip and getting the safety off is better than a quick draw from an akward position. And, dont rush the first plate. Once I get the first one, the others usualy fall pretty quick. 5th stage: Classifier, turn and draw from surrender, engage 7 targets 1 shot each, mandatory reload, egage 7. 5 in the middle are half no shoot. With the exception of a slow first shot, and a slight boble on my reload this one went ok. Heres a link to the video, its about 45ish megs but its interesting to watch a beginner learn = ) enjoy & comment. http://s42.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=20ZEVA8...WZ15KAV1BEUGH4N
  5. When they moved in they were very nice. They were always invited to thanksgiving etc and came at first. They got more and more reclusive and troublesome. Instead of talking to us, they try to get us(who have been there 10+years longer) in trouble with the county, and the sheriff. Granted we do make some noise, be we only ride/shoot etc in the middle of the day. were not shooting at 5pm+ on weekdays or anything. Usualy were out like noon till 3-5 on saturdays, thats pretty much it. We don't want to seek legal or dirty means of action. There generaly nice people other than the complaining, they just don't belong out in the country.
  6. My father has a 16.40 that he has been using shooting with me on practice days. The only problem to me is the trigger. The pull is pretty light, and the break is very clean, but the reset length seems way to long for me. other than that its an excelent gun. Controls are well laid out, and its big enough for my hands, which is rare. Accurate too.
  7. All great ideas. Theres always 1 neighbor that causes problems, thats one of the reasons for moving out to the country. Just our luck one would move right in next to us.
  8. So here's the story up till now. My grandparents, his business partner, My parents and some family friends moved to 50 acres of country land in central FL back in the 80s. We have always ridden dirt bikes, shot guns etc on the property. So a few years back one of the friends moved and put the house up for sale. A mid aged couple bought it. All is well, right? NO. These city people move out here in our secluded neighborhood and decide to build a farm(on 5 acres..why!?). All was fine for quite some time, but since then the guy has completely gone off the deep end. So far he has called the police FIVE TIMES on the neighbor behind our property, for playing music too loud, and shooting. Not late at night, but the middle of the day! He has sent code enforcement out on my parents claiming that our fairly well behaved dogs are running loose, barking and terrorizing the area. The dogs are in a fenced area during the day, and in crates at night, and don't even bark save the occasional squirrel running by. He called and had an inspector check the track we ride on, saying we were holding public races out there. We have total of 4 bikes, and those are the only that ever are ridden out there. He has complained again and again about us shooting out on the far end of our property. He tried numerous times to keep my uncle from building a house ON OUR PROPERTY... They bought another(nice looking wooded) lot off another landowner, clear cut it and just left it to look ugly. the This goes on and on. Its literally one stupid event after another. Not to mention that the guy is supposed to be on disability, but works constantly with horses, which anyone who has been around horse work knows, is just a LITTLE bit strenuous. its total BS. The last time the inspector came out and found nothing wrong, we contacted him. He said that we should file a harrasment suit against them, so that is the course we are heading as of now. It is dissapointing that some people can not live in the real world. So, what would you do?
  9. wow. I will definatly look into that. Also good to hear HK is making a limeted gun. edit: Dirty, do you recall where you saw that article?
  10. Thanks for the info, that looks pretty nice. Do you know if its the 13 rounders that fit as opposed to the 10 rnd mags? or is there a special mag for the jet funnel? Not quite sure what you meant my "white" mags. edit: Looking around online, I see what you mean by the white, or clear mags. they seem to be extremely rare. fortunatly it seems you can get standard mags to seat with some minor modification. I will look into that a bit more, as the Jet Funnel itself is pretty cheap. thanks again.
  11. I shot my first match with my H&K USP 40 last weekend. It performed like a champ, and I ended up doing pretty good with it. My only complaint would be the fairly un-beveled mag well makes quick reloads fairly hard. Is there any aftermarket magwells for poly frame guns? somthing removable would be amazing, but I'm shure I'm hoping for to much.
  12. I just shot my first match today. My local club (about 20 min) has postponed matches due to some legal issues. My next closest club is about 1h30m away, but I plan on helping any way I can.
  13. Sorry if this has been discussed, or is in the wrong spot... I could not find a similar thread on search. I was wondering, where do you all buy your IPSC/USPSA paper targets? Do any of you make your own? I was thinking about mabie making a plywood template to cut them out with. I think it would be good practice to be shooting the same targets in weekends as in match. Any thoughts?
  14. As a long time range/recreation shooter, I shot my first USPSA club match today, and what a blast. I have never had so much fun shooting. Everyone was amazingly nice and helpful. I got to meet local coordinator Raymond Lambert who contacted me when I signed up to recieve the USPSA info pack, and filled me in with all the details. The courses of fire were beautifully laid out, and the hosts were very nice. I went into it with safety and accuracy in mind, and did pretty well for the most part. I did a slow jog between firing points, taking care to ingrain good habits in reloading and not breaking the 180. No concern for speed the first time out. I did push it one time, when I bent down to pick up a mag that fell out from not properly seating it on load and make ready. As i reached down, with the muzzle pointed down, I let it lean to far back. Everyone was nice enough to point out to me the close one, 1 more mistake I wont make again in the future = ) As for how it went, I shot everything fairly well, slow and steady. Didnt fumble anything up to bad, except a bad run leading to an extra reload on a plate rack. Just got to confident. The last CoF of the day had a Texas Star. Ohh was I looking foward to that on my first day out. Luckily it was the last CoF of the day, and I had ample time to warm up. I decided I was going to go at this one pretty good. 4 papers on the right, 4 papers on the left, with the star last in the middle. got mostly alpha-alpha some A-C and 1 or 2 A-Ds, and to my supprise, wiped the plates out one after another, in quick fasion with little to no time for them to start spinning. I heard the best way was to shoot the top, top left/right, then the other top plate, leaving the 2 on the bottom to clear, and ended up shooting it just like that. That was an excelent way to finish off my first day. I look foward to MANY more matches, with a great group of people, in the best sport I know. edit: Forgot to add, it was great to be in the squad with Ray, and other master shooters, as well as an open GM whos name I did not catch. It was amazing to watch those guys shoot = )
  15. This is the truth! my woman is of peruvian decent, she fits into about 90% of that = ) they are the greatest women in the world!
  16. Welcome to the forum, you will find the people here EXTREMELY nice and helpful! Also, congrats on your 550, I hope to purchase one from Brian when funds are available. hopefully soon being am a .40 shooter!
  17. I read in another forum that Steyr is on some US Government sh*t list for selling sniper rifles to the Axis of Evil countries. Might look into that before deciding on a purchase. If you want a Steyr get a Steyr - and they do make great rifles. The political stuff is going to depend on who is paying whom, ignore it. Those who are bad this week will be good next week, etc....... Exactly. Just because AKs are the primary weapon of 90% of our enemys, does not mean I would not purchase a Kalashnikov. Steyer makes excelent guns, I would personaly an AUG. On topic, my father has a buddy that loves his XD, I haven't shot it, but im shure it would do fine in competition.
  18. It's a DA/SA so it can be ready cocked and locked, or DA. thats one of the main reasons I purchased it. I read up some other threads on factory ammo and I will be going with the Win white box 165s, as I'm shure they will make major out of the H&K poly barrel.
  19. Thank you both for your replies. I think i will try L10 for my first shoot, going for the major power factor. I also switched down to a 165g JHP, federal i think they were. they shot beautifully. I eventually hope to get into reloading myself, when I have the money.
  20. I am new to practical shooting, and recently purchased a new H&K USP in .40S&W. I was wondering which class to shoot in. I would assume production, but I understand that all scores are counted as minor. Would it be better to shoot a light loaded .40 in production, or go for the major power factor in limited or L-10. Also, has anyone shot/seen anyone shoot a USP in USPSA/IPSA competition? I also shoot a para LDA in .40 and a Star 1911 in 9mm, and find that i am much faster and more accurate with the H&K.
