When the slide begins to move backwards, it also cocks the hammer - the heavier the mainspring, the more Force is required to overcome spring tension, and it is applied to the hammer pin, i.e. above your hands. I'd expect the difference between various springs to be minimal though. If the front and back of the grip are smooth (they were on my Shadowline), adding grip tape helps a lot. Kiddo's Shadow 1 has some checkering, but she still prefers having some grip tape. Factory checkering on Shadow 2 is good as is. Also:

What grips do you use? I used to have a normal SL, and it was rather difficult to control at speed with the original thin aluminium grips and smooth front and back. Depends on your hand size and strength. Lok palmswell bogies plus grip tape front/back should help. Springs, mine was set up with 13 lbs main, 11 lbs recoil. Heavy mainspring could contribute to muzzle flip.

Great, thanks! Canada here: our centerfire semiauto SG mags can’t have >5 rounds of the biggest size the gun can take. I.e. 5 rounds of 3” or 6 rounds of 2.75. +1 in the chamber. +1 ghost loaded at the start = 8.

The gun was sold by a store. Might be an estate sale or someone retiring, IDK. They have/had an unfired STI 100th Anniversary set listed, STI 2011 GM Open - looked very clean, someone bought it last week for CAD$3500, and this SVI for CAD$2500. And quite a collection of old guns: several C96 Mausers and other pre-WW2 goodies. Canadian gov't will no longer issue import permits for pistols starting tomorrow, and there's a new bill coming up to prohibit pistol sales, but not an outright ownership ban (yet). Lots of last minute panic buying on one end, and on the other end there are people who liquidate their collections to free up cash while they can.

I wanted to try Open, found a used SVI Infinity in 38 super on the opposite coast. Called SVI to check mfr date based on its serial number. They say the gun was made in 2000, and sold as frame only. Store photos look ok, not too much finish wear except for a few deep scratches under the comp. No mags come with it. If the paperwork goes through as usual, the gun should be here in about a month. Besides mags/holster/brass, what should I be looking for?

This is Canadian import, latest revision. Stock 1 was introduced in 2017 or so, not sure when they started importing this model. I did go through Memphis Mechanic's videos to disassemble and deburr the guts. Very helpful, and it was quite interesting to see the similarities and differences vs our Shadows. Test fired the pistol. Accuracy is ok, limited by my far-sightedness. Trigger is so-so: long reset and SA pre-travel, very long SA creep, similar to out-of-the-box CZ SP01. CZ75 mags work fine after switching base pads (the original MecGar plastic pads prevent the mag from being fully inserted). Kiddo tried a couple of drills, she was much faster with her current Shadow 1, no surprise, given it was the first time out with the Tanfo. I found Tanfo's recoil nice and soft with our 128-130PF loads. On the fence between keeping it or trading for another Shadow 2.

Great, thanks! I am pretty sure the safety is original from this very pistol, because it fits and looks correct from both sides. Might get a wide thumb rest style safety - she tried holding a large frame Limited Custom Xtreme, said the grip fit her well and she liked the extended safety. Do regular Tanfoglio firing pins and FPB have black finish? The FPB spring is there, just not in the picture. This Stock 1 is small frame. It came with one mag that fits in our Shadows just fine. It will be an IPSC Production gun, so can't really do much polishing, only remove burrs and smooth out really bad stuff.

My kid bought a slightly used Tanfo Stock I to try and possibly replace her Shadow 1. Out of the box, the trigger was still very gritty. I took the pistol apart and gave it a good cleaning and deburr / mild polish. It seems the gentleman who previously owned it had some upgrades done. Mag release button - silver coloured, aluminium. Trigger - looks less curved compared to stock photos. Previous owner says it could be the double action Xtreme trigger. Trigger bar - looks stock, black finish, had been slightly sanded on the sides, but the most important surfaces were left as is. Trigger bar guide - looks stock, black finish, top surface polished, stem left as is with rough machining marks. Sear cage - looks stock, black finish. Sear - 2-piece, looks stock, black finish. Hammer - looks different from stock photos. Could be a factory hammer from Stock 3? Disconnector - looks stock, black finish, one wing. Safety - stock, he had an ambi extended safety, hence the wear marks on the frame. Firing pin - silver finish. Firing pin safety - grey finish, sear contact surface polished. Guide rod - silver finish, looks like an Xtreme part. Sights - adjustable LPA. Springs - unknown. After the cleanup, DA is much smoother, with some stacking. SA is smooth, with some creep and more pre-travel than we like (her Shadow 1 has race hammer and hand-fitted pre-B disconnector, my Shadow 2 runs Cajun hammer and T5 disco). Would BOLO disco + Titan hammer fix that? Grip: front and back surfaces are quite slippery, need grip tape. The silver EGW grips are on the thin side, she wants something skinny at the top with some meat to fill the palm, thicker than EGW, but thinner than the stock wood grips. Magazines: we have a pile of MecGar CZ mags, with metal base pads they seem to fit the Tanfo - any issues down the road with MecGars? Haven't had the chance to live fire it, still waiting for paperwork.

Found a good deal on Cajun guts. So my S2 has 13# main, 11# recoil, 80003 stainless hammer, T5 disconnector, and Cajun hammer pins. The T5 disco was drop in, no fitting required. Much shorter pre-travel than stock, and just a smidge longer than the hand-fitted pre-B disco in Shadow 1.

Another data point: Shadow 2 Optics, 147 RNFP (plated CamPro), 0.220 g N320 (about 3.4 grain in your units) = 128 PF Shadow 1, 124 RN (plated CamPro), 0.265 g N320 = 130 PF Shadow 1, 115 RNHP (plated CamPro), 4.5 grain N320 = 128 PF COL as per bullet mfr's recommendations, tested to plunk

It worked, as long as I paid attention to the grip. I switched the original thin aluminium grips to thicker M-Arms, big improvement. Last Black Friday, I found a good deal on Shadow 2 Optics Ready. Only shot a couple of steel matches with it, but the fit is night and day: the hump on the back strap made a huge difference. My daughter runs Shadow 1, but it seems Shadow 2 is a much better fit for her as well. She tried my S2 and someone’s Tanfo Limited Custom, both were close, about 40-50% reduction in grip force required to achieve the same level of stability vs S1. If she crushes the S2, it is rock solid. Once the range road is drivable, we will run side by side tests with a timer. Leupold DPP 6 MOA is in the mail also.

In my case, it was probably a combination of 1 and 2. I tried to induce a drop fire, but the trigger functioned as intended, until the time came for a live fire test. @jrdoran: did you have to do any mods to the bolt / recoil assy to run such light loads? My Charger had a couple of feeding stoppages with 127 PF reloads during a recent match. It felt like the bolt did not cycle completely: empty case ejected, new round stripped from the mag, but the bolt did not fully close. I rack the charging handle, end up with two rounds in the feeding path. Day two, switched to cheap factory 115 gr FMJ Remington, no issues. The reloads were 115 gr plated hollow points, N320, if that matters. The same bullets were 100% reliable at 131 PF, with CFE Pistol powder.

I think PC9 needs quite a bit of sear-hammer engagement due to it’s heavy bolt cycling above the trigger. It seems when the bolt closes, it might induce just enough shock and rotation for the sear to skip. I tried the 10/22 Kidd trigger job kit, the trigger felt perfect and passed function checks, but also caused bursts with live ammo. A 6.5” PC Charger with a comp and tele stock remained very controllable, compared to AK-74U in 5.45x39, albeit the rate of fire was a bit high. Finished the session with 1 round per mag (was chronoing a bunch of new loads), and returned things back to stock asap. Your PCC has a super light front end, right?

Well, the Charger has fairly short barrel (6.5”). Theoretically, hotter loads (7+ grains of HS-6) should help the comp. In practice, this also results in a noticeable feeling of the bolt ramming the rear end of the receiver. The gun should withstand at least +P equivalent loads. But milder loads appear to shoot faster and softer. Just assembled about 300 rounds with 4.1 gr of VV N320 to try. If it makes PF and shoots ok, it might work both for IPSC PCC and Production

In search for a good load for Ruger PC Charger in 9mm. Soft and flat, in that order. I did a couple of tests with 115 gr plated HP bullets. Initially I was thinking along the lines of slower powder with lots of gas to help the compensator (running a stock comp from a CZ Evo 3). With 5.7-5.9 gr of CFE Pistol and 6.7-7.0 gr HS-6, I am getting about 1300 and 1340 FPS out of the 6.5” barrel, respectively for lower and higher loads. Zeroed at 100 m, it is also spot on between 7-25 m. Felt recoil is slightly higher with HS-6. Going to shoot a Level 2 next weekend and see how it performs. Ruger PC has a dead blow weight inside the bolt carrier, and I am wondering if a faster powder (TG or N320) might be an advantage with this bolt design.

Just ordered a PC Charger pistol: it has a chassis identical to the PC Carbine M-Lok version, shorter 6.5" barrel, and bare pic rail at the rear end instead of telescoping stock. In the parts bin, I have a folding/telescoping stock taken off a Sig MPX, a Kidd 10/22 trigger job kit, and a cheap red dot from Bushnell. Need mags. Thinking of ordering a bunch of 10-round Glock mags. Will 9 mm ammo work in .40SW Glock magazines? Here in Canada, pistol mags are limited to 10 rounds of ammo the mag was designed for. Some Beretta, Sig P22x, and CZ mags in .40SW can accommodate up to 13 rounds of 9 mm, which would be nice to have. Do I need/want a brake/compensator? It seems a comp would not be very useful with carbine length barrels (i.e. 14-18"), but the Charger is similar to an open pistol in this regard.

In case you are still looking: CZ Shadowline (classic 75B style, not the SP01 version) is quite a bit lighter than the Shadows. It works with Kadet 1 or Kadet 2 kits. CZ 75 or 85 lowers will also work. Thin grips, some grip tape, maybe slight trigger job, and he will be all set. I have this combo with Kadet 1 and it has been very reliable with old style metal mags. The only downside is the mags are expensive and PITA to load manually (get a baby maglula). My K1 doesn't feed properly with new style polymer Kadet mags. Buddy's S1K2 combo works with old and new mags no problem. We shot steel challenge at -20C without any issues beside frozen paws.

Benelli recently re-released the M1 as the budget semi auto. In Canada, it is marketed as the "Anniversary Edition". Just bought one - CAD$950 plus tax. I think in the US it was sold as a dealer exclusive model.

Here is my daughter's CZUB magwell kit. It came with short grips, torx grip screws, the magwell, and two matching base pads. Standard base pads from M-Arms (https://www.m-arms.eu/products/std-magwell-1-round/) are a perfect fit. Both types of pads work fine with Mec-Gar 17-round mags.
