  1. When do you get a chance to confirm powder in the brass? I think you'd be safer to leave seating in 4 and move powder to three - that way you still get a good look into the shell before you place the bullet. I load sitting and have a lamp that I swing over to the press when I load. I look in every single piece of brass before I put a bullet on it, you can easily do this right before the detent locates the shell plate. But moving the powder measurer would work as long as you cover the powder before the shell plate is located. It just takes a second to move your seating die give it a try you'll see it's not a problem. In 20 years of reloading I have never had a double charge or a squib I'm pretty careful when making ammo.
  2. Thanks for all the input, I have a 38SC gun and a 9MM Major gun and a full set of STI mags for each(the 9's have spacers). They usually run 100% but yesterday I had a couple of stages I tanked because my rounds nose dived low into the feed ramp. At first I thought maybe I needed the support of the lips that you loose because of the spacers (I keep the lips on all my mags at .355 at the rear and .360 in the front) but now I'm thinking that it's just spring time. I'm only having issues with my big sticks but I probably use them 85% of the time. Feel free to chime in with any info or advise, can never have too much of that.
  3. I have my press bolted securely but do not have any of the other mods, I moved my seating die to the number 3 location years ago and am putting a bullet over the powder before it has a chance to bounce out. I'm using AutoComp now which is much more compact, but loaded many of thousands of rounds with Silhouette and lost nary a grain.
  4. I was wondering how many major 9 Open shooters are running STI mags without spacers? and how many people have tried and have had bad experiences? Thanks Tim
  5. Nik your right the +8s used to be +8 on early mags, but Robin Taylor has improved his pads and I think Glock has improved their mags. My 9mm big sticks hold 28 rounds I just pulled a +8 base pad off one of my 9mm mags and put it on a 15 round G22 mag, it now holds 24 rounds of 40S&W (+9) and is 169mm long I hope this helps. Nik what Glock 22 rounders are you referring to ? Tim
  6. When you refer to +5 and +8 your referring to the number of rounds that it will usually add in 9mm. The +8's on G22 15 round mags will not be over 170mm, they will be right at 170. Do you shoot a 40S&W open gun?
  7. I have lots of Taylor extensions but I've only used +5s on my 40S&W mags, but Ive used plenty of the +8s on 9mm mags for G17 open guns. I strongly recommend them, the Taylor base pads are stout and mine have been trouble free.
  8. +2 on the XL firing pin. Some of us shoot guns for years in the white before we decide what we want done or are willing to give them up, you would have been fine.
  9. I think I wish I could do that, looks awesome. I like the cut on the bottom, one of my open guns has that I think it shows attention to detail.
  10. WST was my powder of choice for my Glock G35 after Vit.320 became to hard to find. 4.5gr WST, 1.135 O.A.L. 170gr Lazer Cast, soft and accurate.
  11. Hope to meet you at the range, Oregon is a good place to be for a shooter.
  12. I would think it would be to heavy for a vibratory tumbler unless you only tumble a handful of brass.
  13. Their was never a doubt in my mind that you would get it back.
  14. Super Comp has a .015 smaller rim they are supposed to stack better in the mag. Some guns like both some don't.
  15. I have a highly modified Mark4 GTI and love it. I worked for Volkswagen, Porsche and Audi for a lot of years, the old diesels were pretty basic and pretty gutless. Diesels love turbo's and the newer ones are very good cars, everybody I know that has one loves it. Their are forums dedicated to VW Diesels and I think VWVortex has a diesel section. Tim
  16. I bet somebody will get it back to you. What other sport can you leave your vehicle unlocked with $4,000. worth of back up gear in it and not worry. I have a Speed Sec holster and 3, 773 pouches if you need to borrow them. Tim
  17. Herding dogs are amazing their job is to problem solve. I asked my son the other day if our current dog is his favorite dog of all the dogs we've had and he replied that he like our Bearded Collie better but said he wasn't like a dog he was like a little person.
  18. Been crimping .378 for years never had a problem.
  19. I lost my Bearded Collie, Wally about a year ago and my heart was empty I didn't think it was possible to be so devastated by the loss of a pet. I turned into a dog perv. asking people if I could get a doggie fix and pet their dogs. Then I got Charley a Goldendoodle pup that had big old Wally paws to fill and man has he done an admirable job. I guess what I'm saying is cherish your memories with Georgia (what a beautiful girl see was) but by all means get another dog when it's comfortable for you. Sooner rather than later they have a way of healing things they shouldn't even know about. I'm sorry for your loss but by the same token I'm happy for your find and the eight years you had together. Tim

You want to use a slow powder, one that doesn't stop burning before the bullet exits the barrel. I use a 147gr. bullet with 5.1gr. of AA#7 with an OAL of 1.135 it is very accurate at 950 FPS
  21. Tell your kid it's full of candy, they'll get it open.
  22. Warren made a lot of good music and he stared death in the face and went out with grace. He also had some good friends with taste i.e. Billy's Houston Colt .45's hat.
  23. CCI used to be hard a long time ago they changed their formula and became more along the lines of Winchester. Guy Neill mentioned this in a Front Sight article a few years ago, Guy used to work for Speer/CCI.
  24. Thanks for the reply's, I'm particularly concerned about the trigger reset. The trigger reset on my Ruger LCP is to long and was hoping for something a little shorter. A local gun shops just got one in so I'll soon be able to lay my hands on one, overall owners seem to be happy with this gun it just seems to have a few minor growing pains. Please continue with any input you may have. Thanks Tim
