  1. Just wondering - I'm thinking of getting an M&P 2.0 Compact with manual safety for CCP due to the new appendix rules. Prefer MS on appendix carry. But it definitely increases the overall width of the gun. I'm wondering the same thing about the new "extended" slide locks that Smith is putting in their compacts at the factory. Has anyone tried fitting one of these into the CCP box? Don't want to buy a new gun just to find out I can't use it for its intended purpose. Thanks.
  2. Thanks for the follow up, I hadn't seen this yet. We'll see what they do.
  3. I just logged in and saw the "announcements" section post is still there about the survey. I'm guessing that means it's still going? When logged in, look for the yellow bar between the header and the content.
  4. Totally agree. 90% of the reason I'm in it is because I enjoy it. It's what draws me to USPSA rather than 3 day tactical courses. The martial arts world in general is full of what-iffers with overactive imaginations. The concealed carry world can be an extension of that. Martial artists do the same thing - "if you're not a jiu jitsu blackbelt, you're unqualified to teach self defense." Meanwhile they've never been in a real fight, can't shoot their way out of a paper bag, and haven't ever stopped to think about situational awareness. I liken it to a football player with a 500lb squat. Among the strength elite, that number is mediocre at best. But for the football player, the amount of specialization and effort it would take to get his squat to 600 would likely make him worse at stated goal of being good at football, because he'd have to drop his efforts in other areas.
  5. The basketball example you gave - that’s what I was getting at. Sounds like we’re on the same page, especially the parts I quoted above. I’m really in no way defending the Instagram guys with no real experience - most of them are f*#kin goofballs. Just pointing out that shooting and moving efficiently is really a small part of a bigger picture where self defense is concerned, whereas in USPSA it’s the entire picture.
  6. You are right on some level - like comparing someone who is good at free throws to someone who is good at basketball. They are not the same thing. But I also think it's apples and oranges. As Clint Smith points out, most self defense scenarios aren't tough from a marksmanship standpoint. Draw and fire 3-ish rounds on the move at 3-5 yards. Taking 5 seconds to decide to get your gun out is the time-adder in self defense. The instructor types are usually more concerned with teaching things like tactical decision making, OODA loop, deescalation, unarmed combatives, etc. Not trying to be too much of a timmy here. I just don't think requiring GM level performance from a self-defense instructor makes a lot of sense.
  7. Great definition - is this a quote from someone?
  8. I've come across him on YT a few times. As far as I know he's a self-defense oriented shooting instructor in PA who has no connection to the competition shooting world. I've never heard him talk about competition.
  9. I agree with you there. It's totally plausible to shoot your femoral artery with a botched OWB/IWB draw as well. I've seen people straight up point guns at themselves while holstering at 3 o'clock. The RO should stop the shooter if they're doing something idiotic on LAMR. Holstering a hot gun AIWB is not different and there's many videos on YT explaining how to do it safely. Perhaps the MD's could add something to the safety briefings? It takes all of 8 seconds to explain how to do this safely. I also agree that a non-collapsible holster is non-negotiable, if you plan to shoot competition in ANY carry position.
  10. I have no idea. I was extremely surprised to hear this survey is going on because of Joyce's hard-line stance on the matter. What's even more interesting is that there's been basically no communication about the survey. No email from IDPA - nobody seems to know about it. I'm wondering if there's some thus-far unseen politics going on among the leadership.
  11. I feel the same way. Sounds like you're not a member anymore, but if you are, go vote!
  12. I would guess that his decision to shoot A fudgecicle nobody but a few crayon chewers and winder likkers want was the limiting factor.
  13. You are right - I do (and many others) want this in IDPA. I have shot USPSA from AIWB before just for s#!ts and giggles. But normally I don't. In general I'd rather shoot USPSA the way you're supposed to do it, with competition guns and gear. To me - USPSA is where you shoot competition gear. IDPA should be (according to their own stated mission) where "real world" (their words) gear fits in.
  14. Totally agree, I deselected that one as well.
  15. Log into your IDPA account right now, there is a survey on allowing AIWB holsters in IDPA. Personally I would love to be able to actually shoot the “concealed carry” game with actual concealed carry guns and gear. I hope they stop stepping on their own dick by disallowing it.
  16. 1. Since I’m new, I don’t have a tumbler yet. So these were cleaned using the “salt and vinegar” method. They came out shiny but then I put them in the oven to dry them, and they became super tarnished like that. So, long story short, they looked exactly like that before I shot them. 2. Lee turret 3. Lee factory crimp die, set up exactly per Lee’s instructions on their YouTube channel.
  17. Can’t, that’s how I got to the 1.080. My first batch was 1.100 and most of them didn’t chamber. Did the plunk test, and they all feed reliably now
  18. They are Federal. Makes sense I hadn’t thought of that.
  19. See my edit, forgot to include in original post.
  20. Thanks for bearing with my newbie questions. This is my second batch of reloads ever. I shot 3 federal HST’s (top 3, silver) for reference and then 5 of my reloads. Compared the brass for high pressure signs. They look flat, do they not? From you veterans out there, would you keep shooting this ammo or get rid of it and drop the powder charge in the next batch? Before someone asks, I did not chrono these. The range I’m a member at had the chrono locked up for the day. They cycled fine in my CZ, but as a new reloader, these primers made me stop shooting EDIT: The load is 147gr RN Blue Bullets over 2.9gr Titegroup, 1.080” OAL, assorted brass, federal primers.
  21. You're right ... I'm just not sure who else to ask these questions to. Since I don't have anyone teaching me to reload. I'm essentially trying to make a load at an OAL that doesn't exist anywhere in the reloading data I've looked at (Hodgdon or Lyman manual) ... what would you do in this situation?
  22. My newbie answer: Honestly, it's the one I'd heard people talk about the most, and I had no idea what makes a powder "good". I also figured that since it was so well known, I'd have plenty of people to answer my questions specifically once I thought of them, lol. So... It seems like the Glock of powders ... that's why
  23. Makes sense. If I run into that issue a lot, I may just end up going with a 124 gr next time. Thanks
