I think the Mississippi state match has the local Boy Scouts paint. Not sure if it’s any faster, but it sure beats being stuck in a squad with folks who don’t paint.
-
It would be hard to tell if it has the sporter chamber since that is something that has to be specified when you order it from MR.
-
One of the big things with the Switchbolt is to make sure you get the sporter chamber. It’s a little more forgiving than the standard chamber. There have also been a few issues with the Switchbolt receiver being totally reliable with the Wiland barrels. They were working on solutions, so that may be solved now.

Hey Zack, why did I have to come here to find the link? Why isn't under resources or something on the SCSA site? I do go to the website, I hardly ever come here, but a friend referred me to this thread. It should actually have it's own heading on the SCSA site, so people would see.
It’s under the announcements at the bottom of the website.

I’m not sure there is one that’s publicly accessible, but Jeff Jones might be able to give you that info.
-
Have you checked for the off chance that the face of your barrel may have a ding in it that is keeping the occasional round from firing? Also, any chance that the firing pin is dragging in the channel?

Since I started this topic, I suppose I can act as moderator too (or not?). In any event, my intent of starting this topic was to have a way for a group of SCSA shooters to communicate with Zack Jones who was recently given a seat at the BOD table as the newly appointed Steel Challenge Coordinator.
Relative to Outer Limits, I believe we have enough comments from all points of view regarding (1) removing movement, (2) reviewing the current 4 sec penalty per string and, (3) dropping it completely from the current stages. If possible, could we move on from this one stage?
Related to Outer Limits and Speed Option were suggestions that two additional (new) stages be added so that ranges with restricted bay sizes could shoot more than six stages.
Additional comments were made that SCSA would benefit by adding new stages, independant from the OL and SO comments.
Peak Times, specifically rimfire, were discussed. From the BOD minutes, we know that USPSA/HQ intends to review Peak Times following the 2022 WSSC which is now completed. Based on some of the fantastic low scores being shot some believe Peak Times would be reduced by 10%. Other comments (me) offered basic statistical information that suggests Peak Times should not be reduced. Since this will soon be a BOD item, I would hope to see more comments on this.
Classifications. Not as much discussion as I thought there would be. I have a few thoughts that I will post after this post.
A final observation. Many more people read the posts than the few who comment. I would encourage more readers to comment on thoughts they may have about SCSA that they would like for Zack to read.
Thanks, Hoops
I tend to agree with you on the times possibly not needing to be reduced. I haven’t dug too deep, but at a glance what I see is maybe 20-25 people who account for all of the fastest times. Do we really need to move the times for everyone based on such a small number?

maybe at 2 seconds some old B class shooters would benefit by taking the penalty. no one would good would shoot from the middle with a 3 second penalty.
An A/M class shooter takes about 2 seconds between shots to get across (compared to .4-.5-ish transition times for that level of difficulty), so about 1.6 seconds slower than just standing there and shooting. Taking the penalty would add 4-5 seconds to your time, enough to move you from 2nd to 6th (or 40th to 50th) at a big match.
On my 3.80 range strings I am in the range of 2.0 between shot 2 and 3. On a 3.55ish string I am in the 1.85 range. The really fast guys are doing it in the mid to low 1.50s. A 2 second penalty might would be a little on the low side. I think it needs to be enough to keep from encouraging people to not move. The stage would probably be about like Showdown if there was no movement, so you are looking at potentials of 1.60s before the penalty.

Parking Outer Limits on the side for the time being,
Suppose ( closer to the original thread intent ) SCSA reduces ( lower time; make harder ) all Low Ready and Rimfire peak times by 10%
I arbitrarily chose 10%, but it would really be done in context of trying to achieve a statistical measure of classifications across each division.
It wouldn’t surprise me to see another 4 second drop in RFRO and PCCO. If I remember correctly, last year’s WSSC was not as fast overall as the year before. I don’t know that this year will be any faster either. I can say that it appears there is some waning interest in Steel Challenge in my area. Matches have gotten smaller. I know ammo has kept some out, and can’t help but wonder if some folks are just moving into other hobbies.

In my opinion, Outer Limits is the stage that sets GMs apart. Plenty of people can shoot over 100% on the other stages, but OL requires more than muscle memory. Don’t believe it’s muscle memory on the other stages? I shot with one of the current world record holders and watched him miss the stop plate several times on a stage that was set up wrong. We got it corrected and he was back to hammering.

If mud is never an issue in your bays you can use fender washers nailed in the ground. Paint them different colors for different stages. If mud can be an issue, then go with the whiskers.

So total round count around 100?
I dry fired around 100-150 times and ran around 30 rounds of live ammo through it. You would swear it’s a different trigger now.

Is there still a bit of take up or pretravel?
Nope. There is almost none now.
-
Final comments now. I shot a couple of mags through it and everything completely straightened out. Now it has zero creep and breaks at 2.25 pounds.
-
As a quick follow up, I just dry fired it about 100 times and the trigger pull has come down to 4 1/2 pounds. Maybe it just needs to be shot some to get it to settle in.
-
I am using their pins. When I mention take up in this, I am talking about an easy 1/16th or more. I am going to try the break in and see if maybe it just needs to settle down some.
-
I just installed a Hiperfire PDI Black in my GMR-15 and something is way off. There is a large amount of take up in the trigger, imagine a really bad two stage, and it breaks at 10 pounds on my trigger scale. I called Hiperfire and they didn’t have any suggestions other than to send it back in. Has anyone run into this and found a solution other than sending it back?

I’ll be the one to say it. Hammer and a screwdriver. Whack, whack, then clean up with a dental pick.

That's an interesting point. I would imagine the discrepancy didn't change the Tier, but I'm also wondering how much "variance" is allowed before a stage gets thrown out, That seemed to be automatic as the wrong plate was used, but if the plate was inches lower than standard or inches higher - what's allowed?
I don’t think you’ll find too many tier 2 or 3 matches with the wrong heights for plates. Most venues are laser leveling before big matches now.

I generally look for the starting point that has the least amount of backtracking and walking. For example, at WSSC I like to start on 5 to Go since it lets me go straight down the line.

I'm curious. I'm gathering info for me and a couple of friends for this project. What receiver do you have?
I have a Magnum Research. It is .6585" from top of picatinny rail down to top of barrel. At this point, the Wiland barrel top of flute is very close to standard barrel before it tapers down. A friend of mine has Tactical Innovations. His is .4550".....a little over 3/16" shorter or nearer the barrel than mine.
I want my front sight to be 1-7/8" above the top of barrel. My friend is similar. But with his lower picatinny rail his rear ghost ring needs to be longer than mine.
I found the PCC sights to be too high for me. The blades can be lowered but not that much before you run into the screw depth issue. I prefer to have the ghost ring at the same location my red-dot is off the rail.
I'm hopeful others will comment on thier experience.
Thanks
Let me get some measurements for you and I will let you know. I have it on a TacSol receiver right now, but will be moving it to Magnum Research.

Is anyone using Wiland's iron sights kit for 10/22 and his ultra-light barrels? The front sight is a barrel clamp with slot for the front fiber optic blade. The rear sight picatinny adaptor secures the ghost ring.
If one of you have tried these, any issues with getting the proper zero sight line?
For SCSA matches, I prefer a sight line similar to my red dot. For me, the Wiland 10/22 kit front blade and rear ghost ring is too short.
Thanks for your input.
I am going to sight mine in this week. I do know there are some folks using the PCC sights instead since it gets the sights up higher.

Is there a long wait for items he shows as "in stock" like barrels?
It usually isn’t bad if he has them in stock. The chassis situation was made worse by outsourcing the Cerakote work. I ordered some sights about two weeks ago and they were to me in less than a week. One thing that sometimes throws people off is the way the online store works. It generates a shipping label immediately, so you get a tracking number right away. That gives the appearance that an item is going to ship sooner than it does.

I have the Pro Ears Stealth Elite. They are an in ear model, and I don’t have trouble hearing rimfire hits on the plates on SO an OL.

Oxford will probably be the largest area to the east. Lincoln is closer to the range, and the Comfort Inn is decent enough.
