  1. I tried a friend's brass wml for fun on a G35 fitted with a Dawson magwell. Personal thoughts: I prefer a gun what is balanced put rather than simply having a large amount of weight sitting in front of me. The return to POA is much better especially at rapid fire. Final personal setup: g35, Dawson magwell, Glock Store Pure Tungsten Guide Rod w/ 17# recoil spring.
  2. Made a video for unscientific overview of adding weight to a pistol. Ammo: S&B .40 S&W 180 gr Pistol: G35 + Dawson ICE magwell, Dawson mag extensions Available mods: Glock Store Pure Tungsten guide rod and 17# recoil spring, LOK Grips brass WML Drills performed: Practical Accuracy @ 18 yards Bill Drill @ 7 yards I didn't have an interest in doing any transition drills. That can be worked in dryfire, and understanding that something with more mass has more momentum. I am more focused on muzzle flip/dip and return to original POA. Accuracy and splits across the board is pretty equal for Practical Accuracy, the changes start happening at max trigger speed. For the money, I am seeing acceptable accuracy and muzzle flip/return with just a PTGR or heavy frame weight. However, there is a considerable amount of muzzle flip decreased with both a tungsten guide rod and frame weight at the cost of money. Skill and form is very much a deciding factor in recoil control
  3. Maybe it was incorrect to call it burnout, but rather I am feeling a larger than norm size of mental stress that requires me to take a break. The rain has been beating down up here as well. But come major season 2 for this year and I'll be ready again.
  4. Observations of recent local matches I've been shooting I've hit a speed node of sorts with target transitions There's moments of good vision and others where it wanders into a bare C or D zone hit. Need to focus again on A zones which can be worked on in dryfire. Grip - 2 shot groups have been okay but I start relaxing weak hand grip around shot 3-4 if more rounds are required. If I want explosive acceleration I have to STOMP the ground to have max acceleration. Lower my center of gravity will help as well; I tend to find myself standing up at times. Mud is super slippery; falling and eating mud is not healthy living. Use smaller steps as necessary for proper balance Should not shoot a match after completing a stressful week of assisting submissions of State and Federal grants, and assembling financials. Can however use that weekend as experimentation in practice. I'm also starting to experience burnout again. So if I want to perform well at Area 4, North Texas Open and CO Nat's, I'm gonna need to hang up the guns for a bit during the summer to re-stabilize myself. Healthier eating, exercise, fishing, and helping watch over my niece will help as well. Goal for Area 4 and Nat's: Just do what I'm capable of as these are my first Area and Nat's matches. New things I'm trying this year: Designing stages, and shooting PCC for experimental purposes.
  5. I imagine a lot of people here have used a variety of rifle primers with primer shortages. What PCC trigger are you currently running and what's the hardest primer you were able to ignite? Or maybe what trigger were you using and what were you NOT able to ignite? Host AR9 is a Foxtrot Mike - currently still using the factory mil-spec trigger. Main reloading primer I have for PCC is Federal Small Rifle AR Match primers. No need to list off the Hiperfire ECLipse. I've already heard a bunch that it sets off everything.
  6. Very simple post-Double Tap Championship self-review: Need to focus on visualization more and stay lower. It only started coming together at the end. Accuracy and speed are getting there, execution and choreography of movement will be the main focus of off-season 2. Have a long summer to work with other divisions before jumping back in for Area 4, NTXO, and CO Nat's if I can bounce it.
  7. Big lesson learned of don't become too emotionally invested in the game especially if I'm close to GM, and I need to stop standing up tall. As proven by an okay-ish performance at Dragon's Cup. Did well at a steel match, then screwed up a USPSA match the day after. The local match for me had gotten to the point of "let's just mess around and have some fun"
  8. I'd be amazed if you couldn't fit a 223 case and bullet under a die on a legacy 1050. https://dilloncdn.com/manuals/dillon-rl1050-manual-english.pdf You could also call Gary the human manual over at Dillon for that info and setup.
  9. I'm guessing that by being new to this you have some high tension before the buzzer goes off. Relax, because being calm is the main factor of performing well in these sports. It's great that you plan to do what you want to do, but you have to release most of your mental tension to prevent error. Remember that throughout the day(s) it's a game. Try reading these articles from @benos. They might help. https://brianenos.com/care-less/ https://brianenos.com/no-need-to-worry/ https://brianenos.com/stay-calm/
  10. Atlanta Arms has their 115 and 124 gr RN 9mm bullets available. https://atlantaarms.com/reloading/projectiles/
  11. Not really. Notice the Cartridge Overall Length listed for each different bullet and how they're different lengths. The shorter you load them, there will be more pressure induced and less powder you can fill in the case.
  12. Understand that 9 major is not a SAAMI spec'd cartridge, and for liability purposes most powder companies will not even publish data regarding 9 major. Below are 2 websites that you can use for your guideline. Both are saying around 6.7 gr of WAC for a 124/125 gr bullet. http://www.natoreloading.com/9mmmajor/: Author loaded to 1.160 with a Berry's 124gr RN https://www.ssusa.org/articles/2018/1/9/how-to-use-9-major-in-a-short-barrel/ : Author loaded to 1.150" with a 125 gr HAP
  13. Tight budget: Magpul 21 BUT frequently check the feed lips for cracking OR middle body for swelling OEM and not as slim budget: OEM mag + Arredondo or Dawson extensions Willing to spend some more and keep everything slim: OEM mag + Henning extensions Light teflon spray on the mags.
  14. Guess that answers the question. Thanks!
  15. What has been y'alls experience mixing receivers? I'm looking for results mixing something like a QC10 lower and Foxtrot Mike upper as an example. I've read and understood that it's better to stick with one brand because of tolerance stack between companies, I'm just curious to read what you have done before I jump in. If you swapped around uppers did you also have to mod/swap the ejector? Have you tried other blowback systems in-combo with your regular lower, like CMMG's radial-delayed blowback? No need to include buffer/spring combos, triggers, comps, etc. I somewhat have a build idea in mind.
  16. CC USPSA 3/28/2021 Starting to do some things right with classifiers. Messed up on 2 classifiers by thinking they were classifiers, and went immediately afterwards into silent mind mode. Anything that just wasn't shooting or an A zone was treated as extra noise and ignored. At least I walked off with 2 GM classifiers, so I'm starting to "think" and visualize more correctly. 20-02 Deja Vu5.42 seconds10A 2C10.5461 HF (99.4324% CO) 09-10 Life's Little Problems5.42 seconds9A 3C9.9631 HF (96.1290% CO)
  17. Because Trijicon is the most popular brand for pistol rds in both the tac/concealment and competition markets? Just sign up for the alerts for most websites to notify you that it's available. I've been able to score a few on Primary Arms and EuroOptic just doing that.
  18. Yes, I'm primarily in Carry Optics. I wouldn't normally think most stage designers would force people into a situation where shooters have to load pouches. I don't see a massive advantage with multiple magnets even for low cap.
  19. I currently prefer just 1 magnet on, or right in front of my first pouch for unloaded starts with mags on table. Any normal reloads I prefer normal adjustable retention pouches for a more consistent grab. There are companies producing magnet retention pouches that have a plastic or metal skeleton that limits movement such as Black Scorpion, DAA, or Ghost, but you will need to do cost analysis and possibly try one so see if its worth it.
  20. XMG USPSA 3/20/2021: https://practiscore.com/results/new/f99f0c12-eafa-4230-8fcc-d23a18734e3b?q_individual=mmShooter_3403877 89A 29C 5D 3M 2NS 2rd Carry Optics (98.50%) 3rd overall (87.53%) Fastest CO time and 2nd fastest overall, so that's cool I guess. Goals: Just work for my own points. Try pushing harder, but observe what happened after the stage is done if issues arise. Good: Went for accuracy - got mostly there. Movement speed was mostly on point. Okay: Vision - had instances of wandering off the center of target when pushing hard. Were goals achieved?: Sort of, but I really know that if I push too hard I look off target early. Just maintain self-pace through the entire match. Goals moving forward for Dragon's Cup and Double Tap Championship: Just focus on execution of the stages 1 by 1. Don't ever think about the match as a whole until I've completed the match. Gear change: I angled out my first mag pouch to try to get it similar to the new JR Holster 45 degree pouches. From bullets forward I can only get a toe angle of maybe 30 degrees outward on a Guga Ribas mag pouch, but I am having a more consistent and confident grab of the first mag. I haven't felt the need for other pouches moving towards my back to also be angled, but I'll experiment with that after Double Tap Championship. Next match: 4 classifiers and 2 field courses at M160 - Collin County USPSA. I'll push to make GM scores but probably won't be close until summer. Not in a rush, just want to justify skills and capability to myself. Match Video:

XMG USPSA 3/3/2021: https://practiscore.com/results/new/1e1f246a-60fe-4b3e-8aca-2e71fa629b5b?q_individual=mmShooter_3378610 94A 28C 3D 2M 1NS(miss) 3rd Carry Optics (96.32%) behind Luigi Li (lil_bunny_fufu) who dunked on everyone drawing from appendix. 9th overall (84.92%) Goals: Just work for my own points. Chase A's. Good: Went for accuracy - got mostly there. Movement speed was mostly on point. Okay: Vision - had a few instances of wandering off the center of target. Needs Work: Pockets of mental focus that wander - don't think, just shoot. Were goals achieved?: Yes, just focus a bit more on vision and try to avoid pre-ignition push. Match Video:
  22. I can make 1 hole groups at 15 yards with my 17.5 with coated BBI 125 gr. Loaded 1.117" long with 4.0 gr Sport Pistol.
  23. JCSSA USPSA 1/31/2021: https://practiscore.com/results/new/4d27aa51-7931-4489-8796-df6140db4407?q_individual=mmShooter_3345640 92A 42C 5D 2M 6th Carry Optics (79.23%) 16th overall (78.95%) ~11 seconds behind winner. Goals: Just work for my own points. Ignore everyone even if they have a better stage plan. Good: MAIN FOCUS for this match: Grip was solid after having done a few practice sessions of just having a solid grip (data was gathered doing doubles and Bill drills to measure how much controllable muzzle flip I could reduce). Okay: Vision - Had a number of instances where I would look off the target leading to shots out in the C-D zones or off a popper (had a partial hard cover at 3 yards with AM), may need to focus even a tenth more just to make sure I hit As. Target transition/changing gears (distances) Needs Work: Stage efficiencies. Tracking A zones - large number for AC hits on targets. Were goals achieved?: Mostly. I was pretty happy with most of the things I did, small experiments were conducted just to see what the time difference was with another M class shooter. Additional notes: Did not care about what anyone else did. Just focused on my own match.
  24. Got the itch to live fire practice today due to the rain and ice storm in N TX. Drills performed - doubles, practical accuracy, distance change-up, accelerator. Issues noticed and fixed: strong arm starts to dip sometimes - made a conscious effort to keep that up for flatter and more predictable muzzle flip. Rushing vision - made conscious decision just to shoot speed of the dot resting and when it arrives in the A zone. Pre-ignition push - noticed during distance change-up when I would push shots into the no-shoot, resolved by removing tension from torso and only to shoot when dot hits the A zone. Tension in strong hand - relaxed strong hand grip especially in middle and ring fingers, also adjusted grip slightly higher with weak hand to prevent tension and crush feel in strong hand pinky which led to more consistent recoil. In general: Be relaxed and allow recoil to freely happen My shots <10 yards have been consistently A zone as long as I focus my vision. 15 yard shots have been tightening up to 90% As. 20-25 yard shots have closed to 85% As. Next match will be specifically driven to shoot As, time be damned (I am almost at the overall time as the local GM which I will ignore for now) as I have been focusing too much on stage movement and not so much on gun manipulation and accuracy.
