Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Do you reload? If so, try this load. 124 gr fmj Start at 6.0 gr of HS6 and work up from there. (I make major at 7.7gr and run 8.2gr for competition and practice) If running major power factor ammo in a Glock, I have found it beneficial to run a heavier recoil spring that 11lb. I would start at 15lb and would not hesitate to settle on a 17lb if it feels better when shooting!
  2. "No problem" and "your welcome" are usually synonymous with one another. You are welcome.
  3. Like rowdyb said, recoil springs. Also try a steel or tungsten guide rod, it helps by adding a little weight out front. Also load your own ammo, if you're looking for a flat load I would shoot a 147gr bullet and run it around 130 power factor. Some people do not like the way 147 gr bullets feel during recoil but a very flat load can be achieved with said bullet weight.
  4. Looking good. If you need any suggestions for loads for your setup m, feel free to ask. I have loaded and tested many different loads from 135pf to 176pf. Are you shooting 9 major?
  5. Federal small pistol primers have never given me an issue at 175 power factor out of an Open Glock 17
  6. No problem, always glad to help. I use the wide mouth aluminum magwell, it also has a brass frame weight. Feels great and makes for fast and smooth reloads.
  7. Have you tried different mags or new magazine springs?
  8. Check out Carver Customs website at https://www.bb-enterprise.biz. There are many options there for race parts for Glock. I reccomend a 4 port Carver Custom compensator. I have tested just about every comp out there and this one is the clear winner. Your build will only be as good as the quality of parts you install. Once built, test your match ammo and tune accordingly then practice, practice, practice. I shoot a Carver Custom Open Glock 17 and love it. I am currently Unclassified but on track for M or A classification in Open. Practice is the contributing factor for success but great gear helps and inspires confidence.
  9. What barrel? I reccomend always checking each and every single round you load, after loading, case gauge all rounds in one step, then take your caliper and measure each round. Of course the case gauge tells most of the information needed but you should always plunk test the longest rounds of each batch every time. I always do this after loading. It eliminates possibilites for malfunction.
  10. How far does brass eject? It is possible your recoil spring is too light..does the slide lock back on last round fired?
  11. I too struggled with stage planning in the beginning. My advice, no matter what, try and come up with your own plan and stick to it 100% for a while. If you are not up in squad 1st, definatly compare others plan to yours but do not try and copy what others are doing for a stage plan. For my self any way I had to do my own thing to succeed and when I tried copying others it never worked out 100%.
  12. Certainly. To be honest I dont know where to start, since mine and many others have been so reliable. My Open Glock 17 runs the best with a OEM recoil spring and rod, I have tried 11lb through 16lb springs and it just feels the best with an OEM rod and spring. Then I took a bit of time to work up a good load. I am currently running 8.0gr of Hs6. I have settled on Berry's 124gr HBFP, it's a great bullet, loaded to a COL of 1.1025. This particular bullet, with its hollow base, increases internal case volume a small amount, enough to show less pressure signs compared to a standard bullet profile. It is very important to load quality ammo and then check each individual round before practice or matches. Making consistent ammunition will save a lot of headaches with reliability. Using a good barrel such as KKM or Lonewolf is also key to a reliable gun. I run a KKM but either one of these will have a fully supported and a throated chamber to allow long COL (overall length). The Carver Custom Optic mount, no matter which optic you choose, the mount adds a good amount of weight up front and holds zero 100%. Its rock solid. I am also using a 4 port Carver Custom Compensator and have tried many others, but settled back on Carver's 4 port comp, I love it, it shoots very flat. Thanks.
  13. I run an Open Glock 17. Here are 2 9mm major loads using 124gr Berrys HBFP and 124gr FMJ Round Nose. 174PF Powder: Hs6, 8.0 gr Primers: Federal SPP Brass: Winchester, R.P., F.C. (anything not stepped) Bullet: Berry's 124ge HBFP/124gr FMJ Everglade COL: 1.1025/1.1575 171 PF Powder: Silhouette, 7.0gr Primers: Federal SPP Brass: Winchester, R.P., F.C. (anything not stepped) Bullet: Berry's 124ge HBFP/124gr FMJ Everglade COL: 1.1025/1.1575
  14. My Open gun runs 100%, for over 35,000 rounds of 9mm major and it's a Glock 17. I will never switch because of reliability and how flat a 174 PF load shoots.
