And I stumbled across the open build theory thread by mr atlas, paired with some heavy google research and here we are. My shadow 2 project has a czechmate barrel and sight block. The slide from the shadow 2 has to be shortened about an eight inch for the sight block to be threaded completely on the barrel. However, there is enough material left on the recoil spring housing that you do not need to use a reverse plug. So you can keep your shadow 2 guide rod. I did end up putting a reverse plug in mine and stroked it 2 mm, but there’s no felt difference to me. The cone bushing on the sight block needed to be fit in the shadow 2 barrel bushing, so I used a step drill bit and a carbide cutter on a dremel to hand fit it. Definitely the hard way to do it, but it fits tighter than my original barrel and bushing. After that’s the front of the frame needed to be milled into accommodate the sight block sliding back. The frame itself doesn’t have to be shortened, jut opened up. The top of the sight block lines up perfectly with the slide and I popped in a 7.5 mm fiber front and let it eat. I know the machining isn’t the prettiest but I figured I’d share my experience with anyone who might want to try and do the same, or possibly run a comp and make a bad ass shadow 2 open gun. Big shout out to Kneeling Atlas for the help allocating parts.

After doing some research and getting some help from a guy here named Stefan Halvarsson I had a pretty good idea on how to proceed, first off was to cut the slide 8mm to expose enough barrel so I could fit the compensator. A bit hard on the nerves since there would be no turning back from here on...

The plan was to mill the slide but I soon found out that it was tempered and hard as glass, so I used the angle grinder instead and finished it off with a rotating sanding stone in the mill.
Since the slide material was so hard I had to figure out another way of securing the recoil spring, the original plan was to drill out the chamber and make a stainless insert just like on the Czechmate but instead I made a steel washer on the lathe and tig welded in place. No problem with coil bind so it turned out to be a very simple and neat solution.

To my surprise I found that the barrel was just as hard as the slide, a check with a file confirmed that I would ruin my M14x1 die if I tried, after some head scratching I decided to anneal the barrel end where the threads would go.

I kept the lugs and chamber section under water while heating the barrel to avoid losing the tempering there, it turned out a success and after cooling down for an hour I could thread the barrel. I also decided to make the cone for the compensator a separate part since I wanted it in steel while the compensator would be made out of aluminum. Here the finished cone is screwed onto the barrel.

I had 11mm of barrel left to thread the comp to, that should be enough I figured.

WIth 180gr coated bullets it is quite accurate. My Wilson .45 mags work fine but need a longer base pad. Dawsons ordered. Overall it is a nice gun and my wife is thrilled....which makes me thrilled! She called dibs at the next match!

Yes you can do something like this with a TS barrel in an SP01, but it won't have much effect and 9 major without a comp can chew up the barrel lugs.

Kneelingatlas what can you say about ported barrels? Anyone does it and shoot in open division? Anyone can share pictures of this build on SP01 shadow?

As much as possible i want to use the same slide. So the stock barrel can handle 9mm major? What is eric Comp and where to buy it?

Hi, is the tanfoglio domina in 9 major a large frame? I was thinking of swapping the slide of domina to tanfoglio limited custom in .40 s&w. Hope anyone can verify it that it will fit and function properly.
