  1. I know you have taken the flash hider off to clean the crown but did you shoot it without a flash hider. And, is it a standard A2 flash hider or some comp/break. I had a gun with a name brand comp that was shooting 2"+ at 100, I was sure it was the barrel/build. In the process of finding the problem, shot it with no comp and it was sub 1 MOA.
  2. Thank you to all that have commented. I'm going to try a couple of things. 1. I'm going to get a couple of boxes of the low recoil slugs discussed and test them for function and accuracy. 2. I'm going to get a limbsaver or similar pad and adapt it for my stock (I have an AR collapsable stock I'm also going to try one other thing.. just for the hell of it.. I'm shooting a Saiga 12. I have an AR buffer tube for a stock adapter. The tube is empty and when installed is sealed at both ends. I'm thinking of putting lead shot in the empty tube. I'm curious if it will act similar to the mercury recoil reducers in that the loose shot will shift under recoil to dampen the shock of recoil. It will at minimum increase the overall weight of the gun which should reduce recoil and it will bring some weight to the back to better balance the barrel heavy gun. One friend theorizes the sound of the shot shifting in the aluminim tube will eventually drive me insane..
  3. I ran out to the range today to sight in my Saiga 12 on which I'd installed a Pride Fowler dot. Last week I'd picked up a few (10rd) boxes of Peters (Remington) 7/8oz high velocity (1800fps) slugs. Lucky for me the sight was already 'on paper' at 50yds. But OUCH! those slugs kicked! And I'm not a wuss.. I'm a BIG guy and I have significant LARD behind my stock (LARD = Large Adjustable Recoil Dampner) as a result of the FAT that I have developed over the years of shooting (FAT = Firepower Accomodation Technique). I already had the gas system on the more restrictive setting. Two Questions: 1.) What low recoil / managed recoil / tactical slug - does everyone have good experience with?? 2.) Anyone want to buy (cheap) the other 4 or so boxes of this mule kicking slug ammo??
  4. What about 170mm 9mm/38s SV tubes or mags? Any idea where to find some?? While I have some issues with STI mags in my Para, the SV seem to work.. if I can find them
  5. I just got 6 with the window... extra neat.. I got mine from Brownells but they sold out pretty quick. Might be worthwhile getting on the back order list as their dealer price is pretty good..
  6. I had one and decided to send it back. The rails, being below the top rail were not on the right sight plane for a red dot. might be a decent place for a laser or light but not a red dot
  7. The replacement program required you notify MagPul by June 1. Check magpul.com under News. I sent some in for replacement. I didn't have a specific problem but had not done extensive testing on all ammo or rifles I have. Of course.. now the windowed mags are available.
  8. I assume you already considered and rejected the idea of using the Arredondo rib mount for the JP/Doctor? It wouldn't be as low but it would save you from hacking the rib.
  9. It is a 30mm tube and the eye piece is 42mm. I'm using high rings as I'm putting it on a flat top without a riser.
  10. I haven't mounted it on the AR yet, I may grab a set of Arms locally and mount it today. I was originally going to get some Burris Tactical rings with the picatinny top rail but now I'm not sure I need to mount my Jpoint on top.
  11. Well they have changed the design somewhat. I just got this in from Midway, they are already out again I believe. I paid $229 or $239 I think.. As you can see from the photos, the illumination adjustment is on the side of the scope now. The scope is solid and heavy.. 17.2 oz by my scale. It seems to have about 3.5" of eye relief. It appears to be a true 1x, at first I thought it wasn't but I then realized I needed to adjust the diopter. The turrets are funky, I should have gotten a pic (and I will once this is mounted on my gun). Remove the caps and they are easy to finger turn but I'm not sure how you track the number of clicks... not a big deal to me as this is not a scope I'm going to 'dial in' for ranged shots. My picture skills suck.. these were taken in good light but not midday bright light. In bright light the illumination does wash out a bit. The dot is fast to pickup and the center dot is fine enough for precision shots. The box was ok with a velour bag for the scope but there was no scope specific information about the recticle sizes, fov or other details.. it almost seems the paperwork hasn't caught up the the revised scope. I will mount it up and try and shoot it this weekend. BTW - In the shot with the illuminated recticle there is a bit of blur to the circle & dot, that is due to my camera/scope mount (hand) moving.. the dot itself is a crisp round line.
  12. If your rangefinder is having problems 'bouncing' off a target, wait for Scott to walk out with the GPS and then bounce the laser off him for an accurate reading... Sorry.. couldn't resist. Here is what I want.. someone must already have built it, the military or someone. And yes, I know about the scopes that are also rangefinders. I want a picatinny mounted range finder for my forearm that can zeroed for my point of aim and has a remote (wired or wireless) display that adheres to the top of my scope. This would allow anyone to retrofit their scope with a rangefinder.. The electronics exist, it is a matter of packaging them in the right way. Acquire target, squeze rangerfinder button, confirm distance in display, jerk trigger!
  13. Well.. you must have had some dry weather by now... I see that Midway finally has a few in stock (4 to be exact). I also know (from reading Optics Talk at swfa.com) that Millet has made some changes to the scope but I'm not sure exactly what. Any more thoughts on whether it is a good or bad thang?? Any recticle pictures??
  14. At the time I ordered the gun the poly's were in short supply and Tony was afraid it would hold up delivery of my gun. Later when poly announced they had them ready, I just ordered one myself. The one I got has the standard poly 'vents' and it doesnt' have a bead on it so all I had to do was thread it on. I agree it works well, I was a skeptic but after shooting sporting clays with my Saiga and just having to twist to get the choke I wanted, I'm happy. It came with a blue finish so I will likely bead blast it and paint it black then locktite it into place. If Tony has them then by all means have him install it..
  15. I'm curious if anyone is using the Trijicon as well.. the only thing I was concerned about was hold over at distance as the triangle might obscure the plates. I had a three post recticle on a 1.5 to 6 Burris that suffered from that problem, when you held over it blocked the plate. I realize the Trijicon has an 'open' post so it might be you just put the triangle on top of the plates at distance. It would have been sweet if Trijicon put some ranging cross marks on that post, somewhat like a Burris Ballistic Plex.
  16. So, and I realize this is comparing apples and oranges.. but, For what I pay for an EoTech and 3x magnifier, I could have the Meostar that is 1x4. Is the Meostar as fast in the 3-50 yd range as an EoTech?
  17. I'm with Springer on this. I have a couple of XDs with very good triggers. I would have the trigger job done and let her shoot the XD again. If she still can't shoot it, the XD is yours and you benefit from the improved trigger.. if she likes it, you get to keep your Kimber.
  18. Keep the ideas (and criticism too..) coming. I thought about a threaded insert.. my gunsmith thought it would need only be a press fit.. As far as being just $200.. well, if you have a Schueman barrel and it is fit to the gun and the slide and there are cosmetics involved as well.. you could be looking at $400 or more. At that price the idea of sleeving the chamber sounds more interesting.
  19. Ok, someone other than me has thought about this... Rather than buy a barrel, have it fit, match it to the contour of your existing slide/comp.. etc.. Has anyone tried milling out the chamber of a .38s and inserting a bushing to rechamber it to 9mm? Had to ask.
  20. Well, I thought I would add one. Here is the Muller 2x7 Multi-Shot that goes for around $140. The illuminated dot in the middle isn't bright enough to 'glow' in the day light but looks great at dusk or indoors. So far I've enjoyed having the scope, eye relief is good and the image clear and bright. This is my first 'recticle' picture so be kind.. Here are the specs from the website: Euro Coated: “Fully Multi-Coated” camera quality crystal lenses for superior brightness and contrast All weather high-torque power change ring ¼″ windage and elevation adjustments with audible click stops and low profile easy fingertip turrets (no tools required) Circle (inside): Covers 15″ at 40 yds Dot: Covers 1″ at 100 yds 11 dot brightness intensity settings Big diameter ocular lens for wider field of view FOV @ 100 yds: 47′–18′ Weight: 13.3 oz Eye Relief: 3.25″ Overall length: 11.3″ Fast focus eyebell Waterproof, fogproof and shockproof 1″ tube construction with matte black finish to minimize glare Limited Lifetime Warranty
  21. I too have several XD some with lots of modifications and so far no real problems. Many (but not all) spare parts are available from Springfield and at reasonable prices. Springer does a great trigger job on them and now offers replacement springs and sears as a drop in kit, Dawson has great replacement sights. Mags are excellent quality and not too expensive. Safariland makes the 5186 holster that is a good price and suede lined which smooths out the draw. I think it is a great gun for that division and at a really reasonable price.
  22. This thread was cross referenced the other day so I'm bumping it back up. 10 years back I bought a Burris 1.5 x 6 for 3 gun and sent it back to them and they added target knobs and a German 3 post recticle. I found that recticle to be pretty fast close but covered the long range plates when I was holding over... I should have just dialed it in.. my bad. By the time you customize the scope the Meopta might be the better choice but I just wante dot add my .02 on the recticle.
  23. You can use it now in USPSA, it just puts you in Open Class.
  24. Many moon ago, I double charged a .45. The case blew and ejected the mag out of the gun. I had Ebony grips on a single stack frame. The grips cracked down the middle along the line between the grip screws and left an unpleasant but not serious powder burn on both palms. If thick Ebony single stack grips wont stop it.. the plastic won't either.
  25. I picked up an EoTech at a good price. Now I'm thinking about magnification. The 3x from Eotech is $$$$ but the 4x is even more.. like crazy stupid outrageous more. What is the group think? Is 3X enough for shooting say, 8" plates at 350? The 1MOA dot on the Eotech will be how big.. 8moa at 400?
