  1. Thanks doubleeaay78. I opened up the port more, after getting over anxiety about cutting into the shell tube and removing some of the lip that holds the follower in place. But after seeing others are doing it I jumped in. Load 2s are super easy and quads are much better. I may take it further still after practicing quads some more.
  2. I opened up a bit more, mostly over the top of the receiver threads, enlarged a bit forward down by the lifter, and lowered the strong side a bit. Loading is easier now. I don't have the experience, skills, or tools that TTI does, and I think this is my limit. Good enough for a noobs SG.
  3. Hi everyone, I saw a post on Reddit where a guy cut down the follower on a Mecgar 19 mag, and decided to give it a try. I used a hacksaw blade to initially cut the follower down, then used sandpaper to take it slowly and evenly down, cleaning up the edges with a sharp knife. When I could load 21 (with some effort) I stopped, and had to chamfer the lower left edge of the follower so it wouldn't hang up on the mag catch window loading the 5th round (2nd picture). The slide locks on empty and I have about 100 rounds through it, most shot in a match. So far, so good. If it works well for a few hundred more rounds I'll do the same to a couple of other identical mags.
  4. Very nice! After I get used to the extra weight of shells filling my tube I'll probably add a +2 cap. Still trying to adjust after decades of only 2+1 for bird hunting. Like you mentioned before, I opened the port right up to the tube threads and am afraid to go further.
  5. https://photos.app.goo.gl/1N6mguvMvC7yBPF38 This is my first attempt to load a photo. Not sure if it will turn out. Thanks for any info on this. I'd like to open the port more, but not if I'm running a risk of damaging the gun.
  6. I watched a YouTube video of Keith Garcia demonstrate quad loading with Taran Butler, and a very large portion of the shell's brass was exposed due to how far forward the port had been opened. I opened my Affinity port to within 1/16" of the tube threads, and only a sliver of the brass above the rim is visible. So does the m2 have threads that begin further forward of the port compared to the Affinity, or does Taran cut threads off the tube or grind some of them away?
  7. @regor - what size tube did you go with? I went with MOAs +6 which is just short of the 28" barrel. The gun is plenty long as it is and I didn't want to make it even longer, plus I don't want to catch the tube on something and break or bend it. Also MOA makes a +2 end cap that can be added when really needed.
  8. The bolt release button is screwed on. Protect it with masking tape, grip it good with pliars, and unscrew it. I did this when opening up the loading port on my Affinity.
  9. Welcome Bronk and thank you for your service. I'm a new member but visited quite a bit as a guest. There are super knowledgeable and and helpful folks on this forum.
  10. Thanks for the welcome! We have a lot of indoor pistol competition options, but multigun shuts down over the winter. I'll check out practiscore for matches out of the snowbelt within driving distance. Can you believe our politicians gearing up to pass more asinine gun laws? We need to make our voices heard on this.
  11. Hello, I've just joined today after lurking for a couple of years. I've learned a great deal from you guys - this forum is an incredible wealth of knowledge. Only in the last couple of years have I shot pistols competitively, and mostly at low key fun shoots and steel shoots. For pistols I shoot a PPQ M2 and a CZ-75 SAO - both limited minor. I have just recently picked up and set up a Franchi Affinity (after pouring over posts here) and have a serviceable AR, so plan on doing some 3-gun when we emerge from Winter. Many thanks to you all for making this forum what it is. Steve
