I recently recieved an older Tripp Research 2011 frame, and realized after that it is a non ramped frame. Being an open gun shooter mostly, I'm used to seeing a ramped barrel build. So my question is, if you were to build off this frame what direction would you go? Mill it for a Wilson Nowlin barrel, or make a limited style gun with a non ramped barrel?

That sounds like a direction I may be headed. I just bought a 155gr swc mold from M&P. No lube groove so I can powder coat.

I recently acquired a 45 ACP open gun, with a 2 port comp (soon to be 3) and looking to see what people have used in the past for loads. I have always shot 9mm major out of my open guns so this is a little new. I have 200gr jacketed projectiles, as well as a variety of cast molds. I'm open to most powders as well

So I started looking through the safe and I have an older Tripp research 2011 currently built as a 38 super open gun, that is in desperate need of some love. The colt 80 series slide is loose and cracked and someone took a grinder to the barrel to remove the feed ramp. The frame it's self is in good shape, but the catch is it is not a ramped frame. (Hence the grinder work on the barrel). If you folks had this to build from, would you keep it as an open gun with an un-ramped barrel or would you build something else with it?

So I have acquired my self a vintage 45 ACP open gun. Complete with a 2 port comp and tasco built on a Colt series 80 frame. I usually shoot IPSC open division up here in Canada and I'm familiar with loading for an open gun. My question is regarding projectiles when it comes to 45 ACP open guns. I have a 200gr swc mold that I have shot 10s of thousands of, a 185gr hollow point mold and I do have a limited supply of 155gr SWC's. Is it worth running the 155's or is there very little difference compared to the 185's when loaded on a case of slow powder?

Hey guys, I searched the forums with no luck so I thought I would ask the question here. I recently purchased an older open gun comprised of a Tripp research double stack lower and it came with 7 older generation 1 STI mags that were worse for wear. Most don't drop free from the DVC grips that I have on other guns or other guns that i have tried. With some massaging I've gotten 4 out of 7 half ass haha but the tubes seem to not wanna hold shape. So my question is, is there a point where you just replace the tubes? Or are tubes supposed to be a life long part? The newer gen 2 mags I have seem to work well..

Folks, I recently started building up new loads for .45 ACP to shoot IPSC here in Canada. I shoot standard division (170 PF) major out of a 2011 edge. I have always loaded 200gr plated over 5.3 gr of W231. This load shoots well in the gun, smooth and soft ans just makes PF. so I have been wanting to build up a safer load. Recently I have tried a 230gr rn lead, powder coated on top of 4gr of Clay's. This load felt snappier and was flinging brass about 12 feet away. I have not had a chance to Chrono yet but is this normal? Or is this load a bit hotter then my recoil spring can handle?

That's something I'm going to try this weekend. The other question I had for wheelguners, what's the comparison in hitfactor between a revolver and let's say an IPSC standard gun?

Thanks for the help guys, this points me in the right direction as to what to try. I do have normal size hands that may be a bit small for the grip i have on my 929 but I'm going to experiment tonight.

Hey guys, I recently had my first IPSC revolver match and loved it, I have been shooting standard here in Canada for a couple years now and wanted to make the switch as there arnt many wheel gunners around. Aside from forgetting how to shoot when the old timer beeps, I thought I did quite well. But my faults of D zone hits and Mike's were all low and left. (Right handed shooter). So my question is regarding grip technique. I have found that if engage the palm of my weak hand close to the back of the grip that the shots down stray as low. Am I on the right path or is this a simple trigger jerk issue? Thanks!

Hey guys, So I've started to dabble in the world of ipsc revolver and the whole idea of .38 special trimmed to super length seems pretty interesting. I've cut down a bunch of brass to .900" and sourced a couple different types of bullets, from 158gr plated to 158 and 160gr cast and powder coated. My question after a bunch of searching here is which is a good spot to start up my loads with a Chrono. 38 super data at the bottom end or something closer to 9mm?

Thanks guys for the info! Last night I took my trubor out to the range doing some basics and drills and I think I enjoy it more than my standard STI gun. The trubor that I have is set up for open, even though I bought it used with a super low round count it seems to work well. With the load that I have for it it makes major pf easily. One old guy last night told me no matter which I pic, the learning road ahead will be big.

Hey guys, First off I'll get right out and say it, I'm a new guy to the sport and love it. I shoot IPSC here in Canada and looking for some advice from the seasoned guys. My first gun I bought was an STI edge in .45 acp. I started doing league nights Saturday nights with it and most guys would tell me "that's the wrong caliber". This is shooting in standard division.Now being in Canada, we are limited to 10 in the mag, so why would .40 be an advantage? After a while, I ended up trying and buying a used trubor in 9mm to shoot open.. Cmore mounted sideways and I love it. Definitely cheaper to shoot here in Canada and I seem to enjoy it more. So the question I have.... Is .45 really a disadvantage for standard division over .40? And will training with 2 styles of gun and competing back and forth hinder my gains?
